I was very disappointed last night to find out that landing two sticky grenades on a harasser trying to run me over caused no damage while my pistol was able to inflict damage. This is absurd. SOE please look into this. Landing two sticky grenades on a charging harasser takes skill and should viable defensive option for infantry.
Agreed! P.S. SOE, I LOVED the pumpkin "muahahaha" sticky grenades! Please expand upon this idea, I would be willing to open my wallet more.
I think a better approach would be to ditch the AV grenade and allow for grenades in general to be upgradable for different purposes. Sticky grenades could be upgraded in a direction to be stronger vs armor. No need to have a vehicle specific grenade that sucks in any other situations. A grenade is a grenade and creates a large explosion and should inflict damage to almost anything in its vicinity.
The Harasser is paper stock. The Harasser with composite armor and an Engy in the back repairing can go toe to toe with AP Lightnings and win handily, then buzz off for twenty seconds before coming back to pester infantry as well. OP's point is that it's strange that vehicles that take damage from small-arms fire don't also take damage from general purpose grenades.
No, it can't go toe to toe with an AP lighting and win handily. Unless.... The lighting is a bad shot, and/or gets ambushed. As a matter of fact, harassers are only "effective" when the opposition is made up of bad to mediocre players. Good players in tanks kick the **** out of them. And if infantry shoot at them rather than attempt to stick grenades, the Harasser has the choice of fleeing or risking getting killed. I've driven a lot of harassers lately, and you can really tell the difference between the good and the bad players. Most notable of them are the lightings, as there's generally more of them than MBTs. Bad ones don't know how to react to good harassers. Good ones do know, and have good aim on top of that. Get hit 3 times by a lighting rocking the PythonAP and it's pretty much game over; you have to flee (if you're still alive). With the Saron, do you know how long time it takes to kill a lighting? From the rear it's 2x6 + some more. Side and front is at least 4x6, more if they're reinforced. And the lighting has the faster cycle time. But I know, you mentioned having a dedicated engineer in the back, repairing. First off, that's really nerfed compared to what it was in the harasser heydays, and second it's also a case of using 3 people to beat 1. TL;DR: You're underestimating what a lighting can do to a harasser if used by someone who knows what they're doing. Which I feel is a fair comparison since a bad harasser isn't really dangerous to anyone but themselves.
Do you drive Lightnings as well, or just Harassers? Getting three AP shots to hit a Harasser is harder than you seem to think, especially when after one or two shots they generally zip off behind cover to repair, hitting autorepair along the way for good measure. They can outrun you, outmaneuver you, and outdamage you if you're unlucky enough to run into one using one of the more powerful AV guns. Also, you only need two people to repair on the fly, not three, due to seat hotswapping. Of course, this is all assuming ideal damage and accuracy, which as we both know means jack crap as of late what with the no-damage-after-reloading bug that's still in the damn game.
The Harasser is fun, at his current state.... It is a Pro vehicle, but in a pro´s hand it is really really usefull and funny. I have A LOT of Footage about nice Harassing, but i had no time to edit the videos until now...
I do drive them, but I'm not that good at it. However, I know people who are, some VS, some NC/TR. Evading shots in the harasser isn't as guaranteed as you seem to think, and in a hit exchange the lightning does have the durability advantage. As an example, if the lighting is using reinforced side armour it's basically as durable as an MBT. However, I will agree that the Harasser has an edge in mobility, but then again that's what's special about the thing, a bit like the magrider. Anyway.. The reason I worded it the way I did about the repair seat is that yes, you can seat swap, but in the heat of combat, who do you swap? Gunner? Well, now you're doing no damage, which basically means the Lighting has "won". Driver? You just gave up your one big advantage. To otherwise leverage that advantage in a fight, you do need a 3rd person. If you don't, it's either not an advantage you can make use of, or you give up something substantial. Not to mention how neutered that repair rate is compared to normal repair. However, I'm not saying a harasser is hopelessly outmatched, it's not. But to say it can beat things handily as you so nicely put it is something I can't really agree with. If you do do so however, I'd put it down to skill-stomping rather than because of one platform being so much better than the other.
I don't think this change is needed, especially where they JUST made AV grenades sticky. Everything doesn't have to damage everything. Harassers die very quickly. Next time drop a c4 and blow it up as he is driving up to run you over. It doesn't even have to be on him, simply drop it on the ground, and if he is anywhere near the gigantic blast radius of c4 he is dead. On the lightning VS harasser topic, I would say that this matchup is one of the few in this game that will come down to pure skill, ability, and experience. Evenly matched skill and experience wise though, will either have the harasser running away or dead. A harasser just can't withstand enough damage to I toe to toe with an AP lightning who has good accuracy. Myself and a random sundy fought off what seemed like a platoon of ECUS harassers the other day, and while those guys are great drivers, they know to get the hell out of dodge if getting consistently hit by AP weapons. As an experienced harasser driver myself, it is my policy to run and seek cover if I get hit by 1 single tank shell.
Unless you have a well certed out tank (of any kind) it's very difficult to hit or defend against a two (three) man fast target like the harasser. It isn't just "bad" players that lose to them. Sure, you may think the harasser is paper thin (which it isn't), but you need several steps of expensive reload speed to cert out a tank to be able to fire quickly enough to even have a chance at hitting it multiple times during one fast pass. Most harasser crews are above avg BR and well certed. Their opposition, isn't. All things being equal, two or three high BR guys in a harasser can own an equally certed tank 1 v 1. The ability to attack at speed is a HUGE advantage. The ability to repair at speed is a huge advantage. Having an independent gunner is a huge advantage. Add experience into the mix and well, you see where I'm going. I have taken out MANY fully crewed harassers in battles with my AP Lightning, but only very rarely one on one. I consider myself a pretty good shot as well. That is, if being able to take out LA's on the fly with AP is any indication. Ok, that's rare, but still...
