Well, it was a long weekend for everyone. I know we have a lot going on, so here's where we stand on some of the hotter topics: Euro server login times: I think we finally have a solution here. Late Sunday we put up some new code and config changes that should have finally put a nail in this issue. I wanted to wait until we were through peak hours today, and it looks good. Server performance: We are hoping the August update helps here, we have several tweaks that should improve things. Nothing earth-shattering, but it should start to look a bit better. It's going to be a point of emphasis from the Code guys for the next couple months. August update: Right now we're still on target for Weds of this week. The build has a lot of nice things in it besides the Valkyrie, and I really want to get it to live to help overall quality. It includes a hitch fix, hit reg improvements, splash damage in the VR zone...and other good stuff. 25% member Depot discount: We had some marketplace data leak out that was unintentional. I could have pulled it down, but we figured you guys deserved something to go your way this weekend. Directives progress getting lost: We think we have the fix for this. It'll be going up in the August update. If this weekend hadn't been so bad I would have tried to hotfix it today, but we just never had the time. The bad news is that we won't be able to grant the lost counts. I asked our BI group and they did a bunch of investigating but there's no way to run a query to sort it out. We're really sorry about it, and apologize for the resets. Overall game quality: We know the game isn't in great shape right now in certain areas, so there's a meeting this afternoon about moving some features out a bit, and focusing on performance and bug fixes for September. I'll update you on that later. Roadmap: We're in the process of updating it now and should have something soon.
I like bug fixes, but I fear the game getting stuck in a cycle of meh patches and constant bug fixes after.
I hope this will be fix this and i hope the fix is a part of the update for this week. Until that, i don't have the motivation to play. Sad that the data is "lost", very sad...
Dave, I appreciate the update... but I can't seem to deal with the directive progress not being restored. I work in web hosting and fully understand that some times the **** hits the fan and data gets lost. I would usually expect some fallout from that, it's just that this time the fallout is me. My game time consists of precious stolen moments between running a business and looking after my family. I have to re-evaluate where I spend that time if it's just going to be wasted.
Well there's 650 kills towards Master level Medic Directive down the drain. And it only got reset for me yesterday as well. If this was one of the lower level directives I would not mind as much, but for me getting 650 kills as a Medic takes a lot of investment. I'd need to play 4+ hours a day for a week to regain all the lost progress.
If things are being patched and bugs are being fixed, how is that stuck? It's an endless cycle, but it still need to take place for the game to improve.
A programmer fixing bugs is a programmer not working on adding new features that keep this game interesting.
My head is momently full of ideas to bring the "lost" progress back. All is based on one source that, i think, have the "lost" data...the killboard. Maybe tomorrow i begin to work on an excel spreadsheet that gather the lost kills, summarize the data, check the related directive progress levels and give out a number. ...head full of visions....i let you know if have something...
Sadly I can already see the difficulty in writing an accurate query for this. The problem comes in determining what class you played while making the kill. While it would be possible to do it by the weapon you used, it's not going to work where weapons are shared across classes. I'm guessing the statement "there's no way to run a query to sort it out" is born of this restriction. Does the API contain the class you played when you made the kill? I dont think it does, does it?
Oh, sorry, I misunderstood what you were asking. I thought you said that it wouldn't be a bad thing or why was it a problem.
Personally IMO that is what you should be putting you efforts into .. Focusing on performance / bugs AND finishing up the half finished items we already have ( missions / Resources etc Any news on the alleged multi camo's applications we were told about months ago ? ) before you begin anything new .. Finish and polish what you have .. We can wait for new stuff ..
Why must this happen. Why does the game have to get into such a state before focus is turned on performance which in turn pushes content back Why is performance not being properly maintained as monthly patches are introduced Performance shouldn't need to be fixed it should always be your number 1 priority all the time not a monthly update every now and then
If this is coming back, I will seriously reconsider resubscribing. I certainly hope it's a planned benefit.
You said the game's development was stuck on patching and fixing, I argued that that is the very opposite of being stuck - it is progress. It's a necessary process for things to improve. What's the point of adding new features all the time if you neglect the bugs they introduce? If they continued doing that, the game would get worse with every patch. It's a GOOD thing that a programmer focusing on fixing bugs is not spending time on new features, when adding new features is the SOURCE of new bugs.
