    /crossposted from Planetside Universe:

so basically, a Vet(presumably a high statue member of a big outfit) appeared at the day of the event, then threw the following at Higby:

"YOU(Higby) WILL NOT INTERRUPT ME BEFORE I FINISH STATING MY POINTS. IN SHORT, I`LL TELL YOU THAT, THIS GAME(PS2) DOES NOT HAVE A POTENTIAL OF LONG TERM PLAYING!"

"THERE IS NO OTHER PURPOSE IN THIS GAME THAN KILL KILL AND KILL, WHICH ISN`T MORE THAN COUNTER-FU**ING-STRIKE TEN YEARS AGO"

"COUNTER-STRIKE IS SIMPLE AND USER-FRIENDLY TO THE POINT THAT EVEN A ******** MONKEY COULD POP-IN AND HAVING FUN, PLANETSIDE 2 IS NEITHER USER-FRIENDLY (lack of tutorial), NOR HAS A BIGGER LONG-TERM GOAL(a "good" feeling of accomplishment), MOREOVER YOU NEED A 1000$ (6000¥) COMPUTER FOR BEING ABLE TO PLAY IT, JUST IN ORDER TO HAVE A SAME AMOUNT OF FUN OF PLAYING COUNTER-STRIKE. Dafaq? REALLY, DAFAQ?!"

    -------------------
then, there`s been a "friendly" chat between this guy and PS2`s developer team. During the chat, they`ve been able to pull-out some minor infos:

-Higby does have realized that some people only do backhacking and never go to frontline, and also most of the people dislikedefense so when attacking, the base is normally empty. They are making some sort of LATTICE system, some sort of SANCTUARYwill be there at future. However, it is a bit unrealistic to change the whole base layout at this stage of the game, but they will do minor change to the detail environment.

-The squad/platoon mechanism will change soon, attack/defense mechanism will also change but later, defense will be tying up with mission system somehow, defending faction must accomplished some type of mission in order to gain specific amount of exp, there may be "official" mission system, such as " Mission A: Battle of the Zurvan amp station".
    ------
-Afterward from this guy: Matt isn`t as mean as I thought earlier, he looks young but not arrogant at all. He does listen to what other says. Mission system sure does sound like a great thing, fix current problems without change too much core stuffs...

-TR and NC people under the stage were not less rager than him, a constant of "YEAH!" "TRUE!" "YOU`VE RUINED PS!" can be heard all long, VS people however, are the most calm[IMG]

    cool story bro

and NO i do not have the same opinion.... but every one is entitled to one
  3. Rivenshield

    Same opinion on what...?
  4. Mazzar

    Lattice?
WTF does lattice mean? or, atleast, what do you think it means?
  5. Mietz

I like how the "defense" link goes to a wiki page that doesn't exist, perfect representation of the ingame reality.

The old lattice system in PS1 more or less tied all the bases on a continent together. It kinda-sorta channelized the zergs at each other, and definitely allowed the defenders to prepare intelligently for you. And yes, we had some king-h*ll field battles, too. See the pic at the link and you'll instantly grasp it.

lattice system is so much better than what we have now - its just chaos now
hopefully this new system will help

Since day one of beta, and apparently alpha, lattice has been begged for.

Is it too late? **** I hope not, but the longer they take the more I think so.

Lattice is something that goes well with bacon, tomatoes, mayo, butter, and some nice bread....mmm BLTs....

    Wait, uh....now I am hungry...ARG!

Do want all those things stated in the OP.

In "Star Trek: The Next Generation", the Enterprise senior staff were discussing plans to use nanites to stop an ongoing Borg incursion into Federation space. The problem was that it would take 3 weeks to prepare the nanites.

One staff member (Counselor Troi) wisely remarked that in 3 weeks time, nanites would be all that's left of the Federation.

My point is that the PS2 developers don't have as much time to fix PS2 as they think they do. PS2 is hemorrhaging players every day that nothing is done to fix PS2.

    Hear, hear!
Something definitely needs to be done fast, many people of my outfit are already starting to feel burned out. Heck, I'm a bit surprised I'm still around given the lack of metagame. Capping the same undefended bases is becoming over and over is becoming dull.

But as I was just reading in another thread, maybe the devs didn't want to implement the lattice system because the game really doesn't handle that many players at one location as well as we were lead to believe. If rendering issues isn't solved before implementing the lattice, more battles will have the frustrating "pop in" we see at tech plants which frankly is a poor way of selling the game.

You know something is amiss when "Forumside" is more entertaining than actually playing Planetside 2 ....

That's what I suspect. We may see some lowering of continental populations for precisely that reason... and you know something? Planetside 1 had 133x3 combatants, sometimes all jammed into or around the same base, and that's bigger than any battle I've seen or heard of here. ANY increase over what we had a decade ago will be welcome. 250x3? Fine by me.

That would still leave plenty of people free to circle around and ghost-cap things on the opposite side of the map from where the great battles are raging. Plenty of small-unit ninja stuff.

Forumside is always more entertaining than PS1 or PS2. Forumside is what you are playing..Planetside is just its spin off.
  17. H0urg1ass

I remember fighting at a single base for two days straight once in PS1. Today's self entitled little whiney brats would all run screaming to the forums if a battle lasted that long in PS2.

But then again, certs are more important than winning or losing in PS2, so no one gives a crap about taking or losing territory as long as they're getting their certs.

poor cod kids will be mystified with this. Pretty sure when they get 20 kills with their rocket pods they look for the nuke button
  19. Rivenshield

LOL. I can't say that... but I remember a couple of absolutely epic five-hour red alerts.

And that's the point. I remember them, like a movie I saw. Say that about your session in any other game, ever.

Sometimes bluntness is required and in cases like this, I think they had something in the works, but it helped get the word out and a clear and concise response. This is the link to the cross post and I wish I had a copy of some kinda livesteam from the event.
