Wall of text incoming: TL;DR - Shield Regen Device is awesome, and I had great time using it. Recommend for immediate deployment. So I needed some Shield Repair ribbons for medic's directives, and I had no choice but to pick up this little piece of gear. At first I hated it. I prefer to play with C4, so the need to rely on Regeneration Implant to restore health on a ground trooper really irked me up, and I could never find a good place for the Shield Device. The ribbons took forever to grind, so I kinda abandoned the whole idea. Months later I picked combat medic again, but for a different purpose - to auraxium the NS-11P for exceptional directive. I thought "might as well grind ribbons", said bye-bye to C4 and picked up Med Kits, and then the Shield Device just opened up to me. In combat, I would run to a piece of cover, deploy the Shield Regen Device, and dance in and out of cover with NS-11P, all the while enjoying the constant stream of shield regeneration. Of course, one has to be careful, as the shield regeneration lights you up like a Christmas tree, but in open field combat there are usually many other targets for enemies to pick from. This removes completely the need for ASC or waiting for shields to restore. I would just deploy the thing whenever I had damaged shields. I'd also deploy it in allied controlled room and on top of capture points so we all have a place to return to regen shields if need be. At high ranks, the sphere is so big that many people can get the benefit without getting into each other's way, and the thing is definitely worth upgrading if you intend to play a lot of combat medic and / or go for directives. With Med Kits and constant shield regeneration, there's barely any downtime, and the constant regeneration makes you harder to kill, much like overshield on HA, but without slowing down. The Nano Regen Device can be sort of used for a similar purpose, but it has limited energy, and you still need to wait for shields. The shield regen device is unlimited, and works passively, without you having to think about. And close to the end I've noticed that ribbons just fly in, maybe the rate was buffed. It wasn't uncommon to get 4-5 ribbons just from once deployed device somewhere in a fight I long abandoned since. I'm not sure what's the general consensus about Shield Regen Field here on medic subforum, but I really feel it's a very strong option whenever combat from cover is concerned, both for allies and your personal gain. Things like Nanoweave Armor, Battle Hardened Implant and ranged weapon with 75% ADS (just NS-11A variants for now) provide great synergy, and allow for some hardcore ranged dueling. The only downside is having to use medkits to sustain own health, so you lose anti-MAX and anti-vehicle capabilities of C4. This playstyle works best in big battles, where you should have other people capable of dealing with that. It can work in smaller battles too, though. Behind good cover, and good view on approaching enemies, a Combat Medic with Shield Regen Device and Med Kit supply becomes a one man army, picking off multiple enemies one by one with barely any downtime. The threat of being flanked is real, though. It also can be used as a distraction. You can deploy it, then hide in another place, and enemy would come to destroy the device, and then you pop out and perform a three-stage surgery on enemy's backside. So what's your experiences with Shield Regen Device has been?
It's amazing in base defences / assault, less in advancing over open field but even then people tend to flock to it since they know there's a medic nearby. The effects on your shield are already pretty nice but it seems to be an enormous morale booster for players. If a base assault /defence isn't going your way, just pop one near a chokepoint, people tend to come to it for ammo and heals, and lose some of the fear of dying since there is always a medic nearby. Just not too close so it doesn't get fragged and you with it ;p
Oh yes, definitely. The thing is grenade and C4 magnet. Pretty much a huge arrow pointing to it with a big sign "dunk here".
Like you, I'm very reluctant to ditch my C4, but if it means getting the most of the Shield Regen device I might have to give it a go. One of the biggest turn-offs for me was losing the ability to recover my own health (regen implant is just too slow). I'd also need to get out of the habit of hitting "F" pre-emptively in a firefight, as I almost always do with the Nano-Regen device equipped.
Yeah, med kits solve the problem with health almost completely. It's hard and next to pointless to play with field without them, since regeneration implant will take ~20+ seconds to restore health, and it won't matter that your shields are fully upped in ~10. Not having to hit "F" was actually a boon for me, since I never developed the habit
This thing really starts to shine when maxed out. Because then it can cover enough space of two rooms accross the walls and sometimes even two floors if placed in the rigth spot. Probably the most useful and profitable utility for a medic when squad is pinned down behind the cover. Felt very fragile without Nano Regen Device at first, but very soon get used to that. It definetly pays off, just need to be more quick, more accurate and sometimes more cautious Never traded C4 for medikits though (don't like to be a hopeless dead meat as soon as run into enemy tank or max), I will give it a try.
Indeed! Made the transfer today, and whilst I found myself wanting C4 on more than one occasion, it really makes life so much easier. Splashed out on the last rank of the device too, pretty hefty range on the bugger! I've found the shield regen setup engenders a more cautious playstyle too, which is great as I'm terrible for pushing forward too hard too quickly. Did you manage to get your medic auraxium plating, by the way?
Nah. I've got all the ribbons in the world, now I need Medic Kills and Save Kills (or whatever they're called). Just a matter of time that I'm not willing to invest into medic for now. Right now my goal is exceptional directives, and I'm 2000 knife kills and 1160 fireworks gun kills from that. Hopefully, by the time I grind kills with knives they're gonna introduce another exceptional weapon that's not fireworks.
Ah bummer, I'm stuck on the medic/saviour kills too. If you can get anywhere near that many kills with the fireworks gun, I salute you. I did some outfit duels with it on PTS not too long ago, I think we just gave up and started knifing each other!
"They just don`t know how to cook it" - some dude from TV. Welcome to next level of Combat Medic, comrade. *salutes*
I've been using the SRF a lot lately too. It is great being able to somewhat direct the battle using it since teammates flock to it. It is also the only reason I invested a couple of ranks into Flak Armor. Starts raining grenades and C4 when enemies notice it. More certs for me as I revive everything then plop down another generator.
I haven't used it since I was going for my medic aurax armor many many months ago. It was pretty bad at the time though (those ribbons took ages). I really hope the ribbon rate was increased, because even in +48/+48's (the highest that the indicator went at the time), with hordes of friendlies right on the front lines hopping back and forth in and out of cover inside my shield bubble, they still crept along like a dead snail in reverse.
It certainly feels like the rate was increase. I too remember the old grind. Now it's not uncommon to see almost back to back ribbons from an SRF I placed back in a fight I'm not even fighting at anymore.
I find that the shield regenerator is a good morale booster--especially when its a big, maxed out, blue bubble of happiness. I use it to encourage other players to advance, so I'll push up to a forward position and drop it. Other players are usually there in short order. In this way it makes a great squad command tool, even if you're not a squad commander.
This ^ I was using it for to get a directive and i liked this little thing, it's cool i placed right ( as i remember it certs were flying left and right and my score was waaay higher ) but it also can get a lot of peoples killed because it work like a grenade magnet and i think for that reason it's not getting used too often.
It's the easiest directive to grind, you just find some biolab stalemates, drop your bubble and wait till you need to replace. Only thing I hate is when I drop my field generator and 2-3 other medics suddenly realize what a great idea it actually is...
When I throw mine down and another medic is near I'll usually just sit back and watch for a bit. I've caught many of them destroying mine to place their own. They die very shortly after.
I never ever not even once had this issue, but often i met medics who were trying to place they fields next to mine even through mine was maxed and always on top if not destroyed.Sometimes i was moving my field elsewhere but that's only when i notice the other medic playstyle indicates he is just a new player and may need these certs more then i do.
It happens something like once every other session, so it isn't super common. It has just happened enough for me to be on the watch for it. I can probably blame the fact that it happens as much as it does on it being the console version. That and mine is maxed out as well so it takes up a lot of space.
There's actually a bug that makes regeneration field bubbles completely invisible. People who plant their fields inside yours might simply have not seen it. So it's possible you've been TKing innocent people. Live with that now.
