After the Nov 2024 update game was crashing after ~20-40 minutes of play. I don't have the newest config but also this game should not need it and I keep my system "clean" without any useless junk running. No other game was crashing on me. I didn't think I would ever need swap file in 2020s and I kept mine to ~ 1GB just because I played once a very old game that -due to bad programming- would not even start without swap file. I read some other people for these recent crashes in PlanetSide 2 suggesting to increase swap file and I tested initially with only 11GB due to lack of SSD space, and it did increase play time to little over 50 minutes but I did not think I really solved something (thought it was within the "error margin" vs previous 20-40 min). Hower after clearing some more space, today I increased the page file to 24 GB (min and max the same) and the game ran flawlessly for over two hours. Now if you know how to set the page file, you can stop here. For those not familiarised, page file (aka virtual memory or swapfile) can be set in control panel -> System (or right click on "this pc" and choose Properties) -and the "About" Settings page opens. Then on the right (under Reated Settings) click on "Advanced system settings" to open the "System Properties" dialog box. Alternatively, this one can be opened directly from command line (cmd) or from RUN in Start Menu entering "sysdm.cpl". Anyways here, the third tab (up in the row of tabs) is Advanced; there, under Performance you find "Settings" then again a new dialog box (settings window opens) and in its tabs look for "Advanced" and under "Virtual Memory" - Change. And -geez- a new dialog box (settings window) opens - "Virtual Memory. Here, you most likely already have some page file set already, but it's "system managed" and in newer Windows versions (with more than 8 or 16 GB ram) this means a low value (like <2GB). Seriously, with so much RAM we don't need (and don't want!) page file. Unless we play Planetside 2 . So you need to set it "Custom Size" and set there a min and max really large (preferably same value to avoid being resized between the limits) - in my case 24GB did the trick (some other people on reddit swear for 32 GB). Fun fact - in old windows versions, swap file was often set to 1.5 x RAM (like 768 MB for 512 MB RAM - in the really old days). Now 1.5xRAM would be absurd (24GB page fie for 16 GB RAM). Of course, no other app or game needs in our times this much page file, unless the app has some kind of bug or memory leak. (Again, I had mine set to 1GB for years, with no problem in other apps). So that's it - happy gaming.
ERRATUM (can an admin please change the thread title?): I meant as title: [Solved] Crashes after Nov 2024 patch - confirming working solution (workaround): page file > 24GB Discussion in 'Bug
looks like it worked for me. win7 pro 64. was 10gb virtual memory on hdd. now +24 gb memory on ssd. 32 overall memory. and played few days 2hours+ sessions without freezcrash. its strange because game work with 3gb memory and system have free unused but work
yes indeed this is strange, game should absolutely not need so much memory of any kind - must be some error in the engine/memory leak
