I was wondering what the principle differences between the two are and which is better, I did some tests in the VR and both ammo types have the same TTK at close range, on a gun that can use both types, like the TRAC-5S, which ammo type would be better to choose? and what exactly does soft point ammo do that High velocity doesnt and vice versa?
soft point takes one less bullet to kill in most guns at cqc-short medium range (up to 50 or 70 something...) High velocity is generally just bad, only good on long range weapons with little kick to begin with.
soft point ammo slows bullet velocity but increases the range before damage drop off High velocity increase bullet velocity but increases full auto COF bloom
no it doesn't ... soft point just changes the range at which damage drop off starts... effectively it just adds to what is considered short range for the weapon at the cost of some bullet velocity which effects long range ... at CQB range tho there is no difference because the rounds do the same damage as without it and the target is to close for the velocity difference to matter high velocity ammo just adds velocity and as a trade off decreases accuracy for full auto.... which is great for med-long range style weapons as most of the time you are firing short bursts anyway so don't notice the penalty but will notice the higher velocity.... but again offers no real noticeable difference in CQB because neither of it's effects matter at that range
SP increases the distance before bullets starts to lose damage. HV increases the distance before bullets reach minimum damage.
High velocity makes it so you don't have to lead your target when they're running which is what I like about it, also lowers bullet drop significantly at longer ranges. comes with a slight increase in vertical recoil but it's easily manageable.
That graph is incorrect. A dev has already stated that SPA does not reduce damage at all. It's only downside is slightly slower bullet velocity. HVA has both increased bloom AND increased recoil. The game makes the choice for you in most cases. When you have a choice take into consideration the bullet velocity you gun has by default. And whether you have trouble hitting targets at range. In most cases SPA is the better option. IMO HVA has more negatives than positives if your gun already has 500+ m/s bullet velocity.
just because it's a graph doesn't mean it's right, someone completely made that up High Velocity ammo makes your bullets faster (actually instant travel time on some guns) Soft Point Ammo decreases your bullet velocity, but you can kill targets with one bullet less most of the time
