So... Vanguards..

    Most interesting experience today...
So i roll out my certed Prowler (ap turret and side-armour) and i notice a Vanny approaching. Quickly i turn sideways to encounter it and to strafe-dodge it's shells. I start firing, all good, he fires back ONCE and hits, and holy *****, my health is down by about 85 % (from 1 hit)... Then a reaver flies by and finishes me ASAP.
On killscreen i see he did 87% damage and he only hit me once.. HOW??
He didn't us AP shells (showed he used stock turret) and i faced him sideways where my certed armor is.
He wasn't lagging, i saw he fired once and i saw that shell fly right at me..ONCE, so there is no way he could've done 87% with that 1 shell esp with stock turret.

Is it something I'm missing here as my health didn't gradually drop.. it dropped after 1 hit was registered and it wasn't even laggy (as you can clearly see lagging people as they twitch and warp - this was all smooth).

Vanguards have some almighty superskill or something that almost 1shots other MBTs or is it some sort of a new hack or very awkward case of lag? Even the gunner in my prowler was shocked just as much as i was, since he experienced the same.

    Any ideas?

I don't use vanguards but NC passive is damage so yeh our tank does the most damage. However 87% O_O? i don't know if vanguard can hit that hard are you sure he didn't hit you in the back or top of your tank? but dam 87 lol
  3. Egonieser

No lol, i faced him sideways, and even if i didn't, no weapon apart from maybe tank mines/c4 does that sort of damage. That's what gets me in this...
  4. Grotpar

After shooting at a Lightning with my rocket launcher, I've noticed that while my rocket hit the side, it actually dealt the same amount of damage as a rocket to the rear would've done.

This has happened on multiple occasions, actually.

I reckon the same thing happened here. But then to your Prowler.

    Glorious bugs.
  5. Purg

Certainly couldn't have been one shot from any of the weapons I have on my Vanguard. They're just not that powerful.
  6. MadGelo

next time you should just use anchored mode and laugh at his burning wreck.

Reaver probably strafed you in the rear and numbers just another bug
  7. DukeFlash

It sounds like he hit you in the rear, despite your claim of a side hit.
Other than that: I have no clue
  8. TheShrapnelKing

If he was firing AP rounds at a direct 90 degree angle to you, I could see it.

The only other way I could think of that happening with HEAT rounds is if he managed to hit your in the rear somehow.
  9. Kon

probably just registered on your rear Armour, lucky shots happen
  10. Egonieser

He was directly at 12 o Clock from me and i was already sideways to him long before he started firing at me... hence thats why i made this topic.
Seems like a big glitch in hit detection system.
  11. MadGelo

fine, it is time to let people know about the new buff they did.
If you drive your Vanguard with HA instead of engi, you get a skill called "overcharge" that drastically increase damage of your next shot
  12. TheShrapnelKing

Now I do know that the damage done is calculated by what angle you fire at. A 90 degree angle, which apparently he was at, will net a significantly higher amount of damage than one at an angle, even to the side or rear, because the round has to pass through more armour.

Now, I don't know exactly how he managed to take out that much health without AP rounds. Either the round was bugged and it registered as a rear hit, or you misread the killcam - if he was using AP rounds, I could totally see him doing that kind of damage.
  13. MadGelo

dude, this is not World of Tanks, it is either front, side, top or rear armor
  14. TheShrapnelKing

I swear I heard the angle mattered. If not, then it's a bug. Or he ran over a mine at the exact same time, who the hell knows.
  15. ExarRazor

thats true, however, and this is the thing most people DON'T know:

the damage is based on the armor facing you the moment the shot is fired, not what it actually hits.

if a tank is driving away from you, and you lock on/fire at its REAR armor, and he turns to his side and impacts the side armor, it will still acount as a rear hit.

likewise, if you fire at a tanks side armor, and he turns his *** to you and it impacts the rear, itll count as a side armor shot.

its likely a bug, and hopefully it gets fixed soon, but no telling

also OP: earlier today my front armor certed prowler got 2 shotted from the FRONT by a vanguard HEAT cannon. not AP, friggin HEAT, in 2 shots to the front.

    total horsecrap

    Sounds like a rear hit.
    * Good old hit box, eh?
  17. Fethrion

Or you had C4 on you, which he detonated with his first shot, which messed you up and messed up with the kill log :D.
  18. Dkamanus

Most likely. Even so, the hitbox on vehicles works differently then on infantry. While in infantry we are divide by the hitbox in the model itself (Head/Torso/Members) without distinction of direction, vehicle are based on the position you shoot against another vehicle. For instance, at the time of the shot, that vanguard could have been behind you, shot to your back, and while you were turning, it hit you ON THE "BACK"!

There was a graphic of this somewhere in the beta forums, if anyone can bring it up again.
  19. SnakeTheFroski

It's possible, if unlikely, that the shell explosion detonated a mine or C4 that was placed at or near your tank. I've had this happen before, both as a victim and a perpetrator, and in the former case the kill screen merely said that 80 some odd percent damage was done by a single Magrider shot, even though I saw a light assault pitch a brick of C4 at my tank a second prior.

Guess that's my research project for tomorrow.
