Lets not debate the viability of Shotguns over other weapons please. TR Shotguns only. So, let us presume, for arguments sake, that i want to buy a shotgun. What shotguns are good for what? Personally i've been liking the Uppercut. Pump-action feels solid, plus it's a powerful weapon in CQC. Opinions?
Before anything else is said, all factions have exactly the same shotguns statistically, with exception of the NC and their Jackhammer. The NC Directive Brawler also has a unique underbarreled shotgun attachment built into it but that is neither here nor there. The rest of the empire-specific shotguns are carbon copies of each other.
Personally, I enjoy the Nighthawk. Nothing quite like holding down the trigger and unleashing a massive volley of pellets.
I love the Nighthawk, as Goldmonk mentioned - Full auto shotguns are satisfying to use, and effective as heck. The Haymaker with an extended magazine is also quite good - Semi auto, but with a bit more punch (and 12 shells per reload) - It makes for a good all-around choice if you don't mind having to spam click. In terms of the most overall effective shotgun that the TR has access to? That would be the G5 Baron, it's KPU is significantly higher then anything else, and it's a fairly nice middle-ground in terms of overall potency, compared to standard Semi auto or Pump action ES shotties. I personally tend not to like Pump Action, as their performance is way too binary - either they are amazing, or the random spread of pellets gets you destroyed - I find that Semi autos are the most reliable overall when you have to use it at a variety of ranges - still better in CQB then a carbine, and has a chance at ~15+ meters. If I had to pick one to suggest, it would be the NS Baron, due to sheer output - the fact that pellets are yellow rather then read gives you a split second of indecision on the part of the enemy in many cases as well, as they can't use the tracer color to instantly identify targets they may be uncertain of.
Automatic: if you want to learn shotguns, this is the thing. Best used for 1v1 fights it's very easy to handle and forgiving for misses. You'll eat through your ammo faster than skittles but you'll get a solid shotgun in return. Aim for the head for OHK's, but don't expect them. Semi-Auto: This is where it's at for me. Semi-auto's have tons of ammo, you have to make each shot count but it's relatively easy. Great for doing the hail-mary runs of 1 vs x players. Pump-action: Great for 1v1 or 1v2, but requires more skill than the automatic. Once you've got that though, you can kill enemies faster and with more chance of OHK's. These shotguns are also the best against MAX's.
Sadly this is the case. Would be nice if the directive shotguns were actually tuned to be more reflective of their factions.
from ease of use to power: Auto, High capacity, default, fast pump, Slow Pump if you have good flinch reflexes then the slow pump might be your dream weapon capable of slinging out oneshot after oneshot, by contrast, if you don't like to aim then grab the auto shotty and wave it in the direction of the enemy for free certs XD
Yet it can still magically fail you. I have been 2 feet or less from an enemy and not hit them at all, even though the whole circle of the crosshair was filled with their body. *shrug* I'd rather use an SMG.
You do know all shotguns are 100% equal across the factions right?? They're like the BASR's, there's an equivalent for each. Free semi auto Paid semi auto Full auto More powerful, but much slower cocking pump less powerful but faster cocking pump
