It's kinda sad that there is so much lore material that got wasted and was only mentioned in weapon descriptions in very limited amounts. Like, who are Vanu Amerish? Are they the Vanu's version of the Amish? Reading the Executive's description, who tf are the Board? They're the elite/leaders of the NC, but what makes them special? How did they earn their place? Did they TK the most? So, these companies (Genudine Dynamics, Auraxis Firearms, Esamir Munitions, Liberty Arsenal etc.), why should I care about them? What is their design philosophy? Do they focus on Railgun tech, Gauss tech, shotguns on everything? If they're so minor or completely irrelevant then why are they even mentioned in-game? The dates on NC, TR and VS weapons (for example : AF-19 Mercenary, Corvus VA55), do they matter? Why do they matter? There are so many questions completely unanswered, and reading the lore from certain sites demands that you exit the game, which is lame and fairly annoying. That's a shame, because the lore is so interesting and can be potentially tied to cosmetics and other things. I've had this silly idea, every faction has a number of sub-factions players can join. Each one has unique cosmetics and art style for their associated weapons that makes them look different, and they also have different armors. If you join one, all of these including their associated weapons are cheaper to purchase with DBC and/or certs. So if you find an interesting set of weapons and types of guns that you like, you can get them all for a lower price. Since most AllAccess members have complained about lack of benefits, if they are part of a sub-faction and have a subscription, all sub-faction related cosmetics are given for free. Cool benefits like these that have a lot of value incentivize people to spend money, and current members would probably like new benefits, especially cool cosmetics. You could also give people a bit more to describe how the factions were founded, their history, how do they see the future of Auraxis, more detailed parts of each faction (The NC companies I mentioned, different branches of the VS etc.) and other stuff. If you just look at the game's info on all these, it's pretty empty, and although it gives a feeling of mystery which some people might like, the lore's good and it could make the conflict feel more natural or even inspire people to fight for their faction a bit more.
From what I read about the lore on another site: Earth in large scale war, portal opens and destroys a moon from a planet (Jupiter I believe?). Earth scared of such power, reforms in the Terran Republic to prepare for possible attack. Peace ensues. Portal opens for a few weeks, closes again and then opens a few years later again for about 200 years, people can predict when and how long portal goes open. In those 200 years people become less afraid of an attack. A search party moves to the destroyed moon and finds a statue in the rubble, once touched only a single word is heard by the founder: VANU. A few years of golden space age follow as people try to find other artifacts but none are found. People, led by the "free" market leaders, start to become angry at the restrictions of the TR. One president tries to smoothen the oppressive regime that formed in protection against a possible attack but fails. Unrest rises, civil war seems certain. The ex-president tries to revitilize space-age when tensions were lower by organizing an expedition through the portal. In reaction the economic leading corporations band together to force the ex-president to buy ships, equipment and manpower at them under their conditions, forming the New Conglomerate in secret. A group of scientist is formed for research beyond the portal, including the original founder of the VANU statue and the statue itself, and a lastly a large group of TR soldiers comes with for protection against something that can blow up moons. The delegation consists out of a large group of ships, some focussed on providing food and comfort while others pn research etc. The aim is to go through the portal, look around for a month or so and get back before it closes. They pass through the portal, but not half the ships have passed and it suddenly closes, destroying a lot of ships and Cutting off the remainder. With far too little foodsupply ships left and no knowledge of when the portal will open again they look for a planet to inhabit. During the trip unrest breaks out again because of food restrictions, lack of R&R and the TR soldiers doubling down on security. Eventually the ex-president, the only one preventing a civil war on the ships, is killed and no one knows if it was an accident or an assassination. They find auraxis just in time with a mere 10.000 people or so if I recall. They start rebuilding in an uneven peace as they start uncovering VANU artefacts. War breaks out eventually again before they have fully redeveloped. First its only TR and NC, but eventually the VS, which formed a sciency cult around VANU, also joins in. Shortly after the VS figures out how to use the rebirthing grid and the others steal that knowledge. Should be enough lore there to throw in the game
I've never really found the game's lore that compelling of a read since release. Now if Earth somehow re-opened the wormhole to the Auraxian system, i would be quite interested on their reaction to the eternal war waged by immortal abominations.
Look, what's the point? You know they don't care. They don't care. What is the point? Look at the state of the game today and compare it to launch day. Tell me you really believe they're going to read this and decide you're right, and go on implementing all the things we've been suggesting. They're not going to do that. Just read the patch notes. It's all NSX this and NSX that, and oh we fixed a cosmetic bug wow! WOW! WOW we fixed a cosmetic bug! WOW!
There's plenty of things that have been put in the game based on suggestions. And looking at the game today compared to launch day, it's sooooooooo much better. Were you even there at launch day? Did you actually put up with the immense cheesefest that was that first year? The badly designed spawnrooms, the infantry that often rendered only when you were 50m away whenever you entered a vehicle, the complete annihilation that a single vehicle could bring to any fight and stomp it into the ground, the complete ridiculousness of the map design causing some factions to be completely OP, the way aircraft could dominate the map and how people after a few nerfs complained that their ESF could sometimes have "only" 40 kills instead of the almost guaranteed 100+ they used to get, the way a single Liberator could kill 2+ vehicles per bombing run, and how a Dalton was already better at annihilating infantry than the HE canons which already had the power to stop entire infantry fights dead in their tracks, the ZOE, the PPA, the Banshee, the old Anchored Prowler, the old ineffective G2A weapons which could actually be beaten by a nosegun including the then even worse Skyguard... The list goes on and on. And yes, they've listened. ANT's? Construction system? Changes to LMG's? To Heavy shields? To the Vanguard shield which has been nerfed a couple of times already? hardlight barrier? anti-material rifle? changes to shotguns? adding vehicle capture points and bases that are fortified by the construction system? New continent? Continent locking? New Spawnbunkers? This list also goes on and on. You might not agree with the actual execution of some of these changes, but they listened.
Uhh, no. No it's not and you're delusional if you believe otherwise. Say it with me now D-E-L-U-S-I-O-N-A-L
Because crashing a whole ton, game-breaking bugs, bad optimization, cert grinding that was a total pain in the *** with having to grind 20 or so hours for a new weapon without boosts, every new weapon being priced at 1000 certs, hard-crashes for days, guns looking like barely different re-skins in the same weapon group, no directive awards, OP ZOE and other weapons, router disconnects etc, is NO IMPROVEMENT compared to now? This game 5 years before was a mess, it was a fun mess, but it was still a huge, buggy mess, and I'm not talking about QoL bugs you tend to mention, I'm talking straight-up hard crash, freezes, choppy game-play, buggy graphics, insane lag with Ultra and PhysX etc. The game was sometimes border-line unplayable. Compared then and now? The game has fixed the most game-breaking stuff and added both some fairly new things that at least didn't break the game or down-grade it massively. Seriously, you're delusional if you believe otherwise. Say it with me m9 D-E-L-U-S-I-O-N-A-L
I believe that whatever story people talk about is from the original planetside. This is either 1. because lore is a premium pay to play experience. 2. because higby's hair and social media profile are all the lore anyone can need and anyway this a game about shooting mens not reading books (nerd). Nobody in the 2010s would promote a new multiplayer FPS with lore and expect it to be a hit LUL. 3. the players are the content maaan so if that guy yelling in all chat says that TR are the space wehrmacht and he is space hitler because his clan salute him then it's the best story experience you can get.
