So SOE spits on colorblind players again.

Since tech beta we have been asking for the ability to change to color of squad triangles so they wont be confuused with enemy triangle - even just the option to make squad mates blue like other friendlies - REALLY SIMPLE

Then about a month ago you say you will finally do it in the Jan 30 patch.

Then today - surprise SOE moved it back 2 more months.
All the other changes are happening except for the really simple one that is crucial to colorblind players.

This is just callous disregard for 4-8% of your potential players. Many of us cant effectively play in squads at all because of this.

Firstly, I'm not colorblind. But I have to say I was really put off by this today. I thought that SOE was a forward-thinking progressive company. I know from reading tweets from many higher-ups at SOE that they do actually care about real life issues.

Adding user-definable colors to the UI isn't that big of a task. I recently purchased an INDIE game that patched in colorblind support shortly after release, with an apology for taking so long to get it in.

I know that SOE is better than this.

Most games do, including BF3. I'm not colorblind but I can see how this would be an issue for some people

The roadmap is a little misleading. Our colorblind support will be delivered in a couple different phases. The first phase (customizable colors for HUD UI) is still scheduled for the 1/30 patch.

Oh, that's great then, probably the most bang-for-the-buck. My fear was that it was somehow the only part, in which case--to exaggerate--it's like asking someone to pick 6 greyscale colors that don't blend too much with a black-and-white movie.
  8. SeraphC

If you're only red-green color blind (the most common kind I think) there are plenty of colors that you can distinguish. So if they let you customize colors the problem should be pretty much solved.

I thought I saw the roadmap say they were adding colorblind mode.

    Yeah.

    In march

The amount of things people say on these forums that they wouldn't say to a human being's face is incredible to me.

Example: Title of this thread. I'd like to see this guy look the Developer team in the faces and exclaim "So you SPIT IN OUR FACES AGAIN!"

Na. Wouldn't happen. Keyboard warriors, all of them.

What about worldview color customization? I have trouble seeing NC players (unless they wear camouflage), will there be an option to adjust that?
  13. Goden

People have been begging for colorblind support since beta and not only have the devs ignored them - now they're slapping them in the face with a march date for colorblind support.

I think people have the right to be angry by now.

How many color blind people are there? This will sound bad, but color blindness is not a disability. Should the game designer build in aids for older players like myself that have less reaction times or poor eyesight too?

Just because X game did it does not mean this engine allows this to be done easily.
  15. mina5

adding colorblind settings is not cheap .... that's why they moved it
  16. Goden

And every other thing before colorblind support isn't expensive either?

Cant wait for this to be implemented. I have played since beta and i simply DO NOT JOIN SQUADS because of the color problems. All of a sudden their name goes from the easy to tell 'blue he is my friend' to a shade that blends right in with enemy colors if you are colorblind.

    Deadlysmurf
    Imnuktam
    Therealfamine

That is why none of my three charecters group or even join an outfit. In the end i just get surprised by someone and kill em because of the color of their name. Add to the fact some of the infils look the same to me and especially if you start dabbling with the different camos, im left with ONLY the option of using their name to identify friendlies from enemies.

Wonder what its like to play this game as not a lone wolf to be honest.
  18. mina5

they need money .... whit out any cash there wont be color blind support . i understand it its important option but game was forced out too soon , think about it game should be released in summer
  19. Goden

If they get into the good graces of the people with colorblindness then those people are likely to spend money.

If a person cannot see what is going on then they're not going to play the game or spend any money.

A simple color swap from squadmates name to blue isn't asking for much my friend, and upwards of 8% of males have a red green deficiency.

All in all it means I kill less platoonmates, which I think is a pretty nice perk for everyone.
