and recharges from completely broken to full in like...7 seconds? maybe less, i didn't exactly have a stopwatch. they certainly fixed it being too fragile. would have rather been able to sprint and reload and use it reactively, but apparently you can start a reload and throw the shield up and it won't interrupt it, just like how vehicle weapons will continue to reload if they swap to a second weapon or the driver gets out or changes seats. if they actually end up being left this way they might be interesting for using like IRL riot shields, but for lone wolves charge will probably still be better. I doubt they're going to let a max tank two ESFs full rocketpod barrage and come out without a scratch though. thanks to speedracer for helping test it, he was making a spreadsheet or something with it
i wish i could use a melee attack with it like a bash with the shield which deals the same damage as the basic melee attack, but ofcourse people would whine too hard
here's that spreadsheet, it shows various weapons we used on it and how many of it's bubbles they removed by firing the maximum magazine size of the weapon at it: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Ali3Rvw78Bu0dGF0dmVhdjBTUXJZOHNOcVVWLW9pWnc#gid=0 it broke on the 100th Gauss SAW shot. hilariously, the shredder is the only liberator belly gun that could ever kill a max using the current implementation of rank 5 aegis, it regenerates so fast that it is already back to full before the animation to pull it down completes after being hit by a dalton.
I think the Riot shield should act differently when moving/standing still. The two uses are different, one provides cover for allies and the other is used to charge, but both can't really be balanced on a single value. The mechanic used for shield values would better work as a quick regeneration than a large shield pool I guess. Give it a 5k shield pool, but regenerating 1k per second when moving, and 2k when standing still. Large burst like heavy weapons and concentrated fire would still hit the MAX, but still resist against small arms, while preventing the MAX from doing the above (regenerating too quickly)
