Snipers "Camping" Terminals... UGH!

So you rely on getting kills by nabbing dudes when they're literally defenseless. Seriously, this is why we need more underground and indoor terminals. Infs that camp terminals with SMGs or even lay prox mines are no where nearly as annoying as dbag snipers that do that ****.

Don't be defenceless then, this isn't some gentleman's duel where it's been agreed that all things be equal, this is a war game and one which by all accounts should be heavily team focused or at the very least massive population focused as an MMO.

Outside is dangerous, it's where all the tanks and snipers live.

I strongly disagree. Some bases have undegorund terminals abd that's fine. Some have not, and keeping the area safe is also your responsibility. If you get sniped it means it's time mto move your back and track down hostiles.

Then yours is quite a let me say "stupid" argument, because once you spawn a tank then the snipers themeselves will ve defenseless. They have no other way to deal with vehicles tgan preventing you completely from pulling vehicles.

I find these sniper discussions really fun(ny)...

The problem really is people just walking up to the terminal when there are already 4 revivable corpses littered on the floor and then apparantly taking the time to switch the turret of their tank and change the utility slot.

It's up there with Medics rushing into a room to revive dead people without wondering how they got there.

There's more than 2 things you can do. Someone might have already raised it, didn't read all the posts.

    What I do is either:

    1) Fire wildly in the direction I know the sniper killed me last time, run inside or to cover a few steps, then run back to the terminal. Most of the time this gets you away before they recover their aim, or position. You don't need to hit them, just near them but don't stand out on the pad for more than a second doing this. - This is situational depending on where they shot you from of course, if it was a million miles away it isn't going to work that well.

    2) If there are just loads of people going for the bay, and it's an intense fight, you can usually get in still, grab a spot and find a position to take a pot shot back at the sniper when he takes someone out.

    3) Smoke! :) - You can always switch classes at another terminal or sundy once you are away.

    4) Find something you can hide behind and access the terminal.

At least that is how I solve it anyway. I also like to then get in my small tank, camp somewhere and kill snipers on a ridge line, that makes it all very satisfying.

There 'should' be defensive options versus everything in the game - There's options vs small arms, explosive, and implants that enhance nearly every aspect of gameplay. There is not, however, options to protect against being insta killed by properly placed BA rounds attempting to enter one's face.

I will admit that snipers camping terminals annoys me quite a bit, but this is mostly due to the lack of defensive options, plus the sluggish interface, combined with the buggy / slow terminals. If I customize my loadout prior to rushing the terminal, attempt to grab my vehicle, and find my resources missing once the sniper takes me out anyway... That is bad game design.

Players will do whatever they are capable of doing, no matter how cheap, no matter how much I disagree with the allowance of the practice. (Yes, I would love indoor / shielded terminals)

If a sniper takes out someone lingering at the terminal: Great - good shot. I reserve the right to hate you, but it's a valid style of gameplay.

If a sniper takes out someone rushing the terminal, fully prepared... and the game forces an artificial pause while processing, then removes vehicle resources without granting a vehicle: That's a bug with the game engine. Either fix the issue, or implement an item that allows me to don a giant armored hat that protects specifically vs BA round oneshots.

We're probably playing Light Assault completely differently then. That rarely happens to me.
Then again I have an overwhelming number of hours as LA in comparison to other classes.

So basically you're saying it took 2 years for players to come up with a new tactic.
  11. Halkesh

I've nothing against snipers killing me at terminals.
But when you waiting a vehicle on the vehicle pad and getting killed, you shouldn't have to pay ressource for nothing. This bug should be solved.
  12. ahandyman

First off, I love camping vehicle terminals. Some of my biggest killstreaks are camping a vehicle terminal from 200m away.
To counter this, please follow these two steps:
    Learn to snipe.
    Shoot sniper in face.
    BINGO.
If someone is camping the terminal, they probably have scope vision on that terminal and their immediate surroundings. They'll also be visible a lot of the time. So pull your infil, go to somewhere not the vehicle terminal, and KA-POW. Problem solved.

And if they do see you... my favorite fights are always long distance sniper duels. Those are all about timing your cloak right, moving unpredictably, and pin-point precision shooting. Even if I lose, it's still <3.

As a sniper I just let them. I know what's going on and I just wait until they die so I can look for the tracer. Thanks to all of you naive souls who sacrificed yourself so I can get one kill.
  14. johnway

Sniping people at terminals is fair cop tbh. its cheap, its annoying but its a fair kill and considering how awful i am as a sniper its probably something i would do as well. Hell, i'm more annoyed if i lose a CQB against an infiltrator with a rifle.

I suppose the moral is to go in groups or get out of there asap.
  15. Bankrotas

As a non sniper, I do get sniped some times at a terminal, I get pissed, annoyed, but never see it as a cheap tactic.
  16. Schizomatic

Maybe we ought to have snipers overwatching friendly terminals for hostile snipers camping said friendly terminals. It's like a food chain of snipers sniping snipers.
  17. Champagon

    *Get sniped at terminal*
    *Respawn at same base*
    *Kill sniper*
*Send the following tell: "You had it coming"*
    *pull my vehicle*

    Haven't had a problem in 2 years.
  18. John_Aitc

The problem with protecting vehicle terminals is that they will end up being moved away from the vehicle pads which will make it easier to place mines in the path of the pads to be run over in those initial seconds when the vehicle is uncontrollable.
  19. Tatwi

I found a wicked spot last night to snipe from. So many people standing still behind the walls of a base, because they felt safe back there. At the right angle, running toward the rifle is pretty much the same thing as standing still as well.

Normally I play Engineer, but I felt like whipping out the o'l sniper rifle for that fight. I took down 11 people, trying to focus on Medics, Engineers, and Max. These were people positioned behind where our troops were pushing in, so even though I wasn't right there in the battle I was still helping our troops reach the point and take the base.

Anyhow, OP is correct that "the whole" is greater than "the zerg"; When people use tactics rather than just throwing more bodies at the enemy, a lot can be accomplished and the game is much more entertaining.

Cant say i had a problem at terminals with snipers but i would like to take this opportunity to say i hate snipers, invisible snipers! :).

invisible guy's with automatic weapons and C4 really get on my nerves.

    OK back to lurking.
