Skill is often about making the right choice

I'm kinda curious. Why is it everyone feels so entitled? Why does a new player feel he should be on a totally even level with a battle tank 100. Why do so many people feel that every infantryman should be able to stand toe to toe with a tank, or a max.

What's wrong with the idea that some things aren't equal? If I chose to equip a shotgun, then I understand that I stand little chance against that sniper at 300m whose is about to headshot me. He picked a loadout that was good at one specialty, just as I did. How is it unfair when he sniped me? He played to the strengths of his loadout, just as I was trying to do.

If I pick a cqb infill, then why should I feel it's unfair that someone in a mbt killed me. I could have chosen an AV tank, but I didn't.

People talk about skill in this game. You want to know part of the reason that the best players are the best? They make the right choices at the right time. Choosing the right gear is part of that skill. The smart player doesn't charge into a tower fight with a bolt action sniper, then get pissed because someone with a cqb carbine killed him. A good player chooses his weapons, attachments, slot abilities with care.

I see so many people who feel that this gun or that gun is the best for them and refuse to accept that the gun, while good, is not good in all situations. They charge out with an ursa, lynx, acx11, then complain about how unfair it was that they died to xyz weapon, never realizing that the person who killed them chose a weapon better suited to that particular situation.

Same for vehicles. Don't roll out an AI lightning, and get pissed because some AV tank destroys you. You simply chose wrong.

Get out of your comfort zone. Let go of your prized weapon that you love and practice new tactics. Suck at cqb? Then force yourself into those fights, learn them. Go to vr and practice flying, tanking, riding a wraith flash, whatever.

TL;DR If you died to something you consider OP, then chances are you chose wrong. Whether you picked the wrong weapon or vehicles for that situation. Or simply ran through a doorway into a crowd room full of maxes as an LA, instead of using your jetpack and finding a better route. Your choice is often what got you killed. Making that split second decision on the best weapon or route, that's part of being skilled.

Because if player isn't having fun he will just stop playing. It has nothing to do with entitlement.

The OP is stating that calling for nerfs is not only the easy way out, but it's short-term gratification at best. Do you think you'd have fun if there weren't any functional difference between the weapons/vehicles? What's the point in using a sniper rifle if a shotgun kills just as well at 300m?
  4. Hatesphere

personlay I am fine with a BR 100 outgunning me due to his equipment flexibility if i start a BR1, that's inevitable, but if i get into the butter zone for my default equipment load out I should be able to corpse him up just as easily as he can (assuming we are on the same "skill" level concerning play time/reflexes)

If I get outgunned I decide to do better in my next life

It's not about not having fun, it's about not understanding what kind of situation the player puts him or herself in, gets punished for it and comes running to the forums crying about what killed them without taking a step back and thinking that maybe, they put themselves in a disadvantageous position.
  7. CipherNine

That is reductio ad absurdum. I never stated there should be no functional differences between weapons.

What I'm saying is this - there are some playstyles which are more fun and popular than other. It is developers job to balance the game around such playstyles.

Furthermore developers should balance the game in a way to protect newbs. New player should indeed have a fighting chance against BR100 not because it is fair but because otherwise they will simply stop playing and game will lose players and die.

The new players should also realize that there are people who have played the game far longer than they have. I'm all for helping new players, not coddling them.

I think I misinterpreted OP's post because he mentioned tanks vs infantry which often comes up when someone criticizes devs for nerfing vehicles. And I agree with your assessment.

    TL: DR

PPA users are the most skilled players in the game, because they always make the right choice

Most of being good at the game as far as I know is just getting a feel for battles. The more you play, the more intuitive the choices become.

I wish that you would teach me how to infiltrator lol. on topic: its because they farm people

Map knowledge, situtational awareness, have always been extremely important in FPS games. Even in twitch reflex arena shooters. For instance, the best Q3 players knew the maps by heart. They knew when and where armor, health, and weapon weapons popped. They knew different points of attack and how to use the tools you have to maximize their chances at a win.

Good aim is obviously important, but you keep finding yourself grossly outnumbered, getting farmed by vehicles, you are probably doing something you shouldn't be doing. Good players ask themselves why, instead of raging. Bad players keep blaming everything and everyone else for their failures, indeed, refuse to ever give credit to their opponent because obviously the only possible reason "you" lost was due to X weapon being overpowered.

It is of course frustrating to end up in a situation where you could not really change anything about your fate, but on the other side was this the fault of your opponent? Is it possible you over-reached? Or did you just get outplayed? Again, it comes back to asking yourself why, and what you could do to change the outcome.

Except when an AP MBT or Lightning shows up. :p

Which I think is part of the OP's point. Yes, if you chose to stay as infantry against an AI kitted tank then the fault is entirely yours for not picking the proper equipment in that situation. You could exploit that tank's weakness by bringing your own AP/AT tank to the fight.

When I drive with PPA, I dont have gunner and use AP primary. Lightnings arent problem then. And I think majotiry of players using PPA do the same as me
  16. ColonelChingles

I cna actually do decently against an AP/PPA Magrider... assuming I can get the drop on them as well as the first shot. In those cases it's at least a 50-50 depending on how good the other tanker is.
  17. Hatesphere

after switching to TR I can usually solo a PPA mag with my stock lightning. the ppa is a joke against armor.

Skill is not about making the right choice. That's experience. Please learn english.

the problem people point out is that functionally, a new player cannot really make any choices.

It would be one thing to give new players a generalist loadout and let them specialize as they can experience, but PS2 doesn't do that. It gives new players a crippled loadout and hopes that they'll stick it out long enough to unlock basic functionality.

    From the webster dictionary

    Skill
the ability to use one's knowledge effectively and readily in execution or performance b : dexterity or coordination especially in the execution of learned physical tasks 3 : a learned power of doing something competently : a developed aptitude or ability

So experience is part of skill. Thank you.
