Simply too many weapons

and with very little variables to distinguish between their own kinds. Like for example there're so many assault rifles with negligible stat differences and the only key differences are the weapon attachments that come with it. Surely there must be another way where SOE can make cash from us besides selling the same weapon with a different skin on it?

I'm worried because this game was only released a few months ago and what would happen in a year or two? 400 different AR? SMG? Shotguns? Snipers?

    oh and...

This is how "free" to play games work.

    Says who?

A few dozen weapons are more then enough for them to make money.

Combined with the membership, camo's, decals, boosts. There is plenty enough already.

Its a shame the mockery they have made Planetside. I agree with the original poster. We need fewer weapons with more distinguished roles. We also need fewer weapons that are more unique.

    This is not Borderlands 2.

Needs more weapons. Lots more. Can't have too many.

    Now go away.

Name a few Free to Play games that does these... Just to fill me in
  6. Fivetide

World of tanks for instance keeps releasing new tanks and other crap you can pay for. TF2 keeps releasing new hats and weapons. etc etc etc. Its not hard to see the trend. Its just hard to believe that players are stupid enough to pay more for these kinds of games than sub based ones.

Tribes Ascend. They even did the whole OP at release and "We'll do better testing" crap. They also released content rather than fix bugs and the bugs they did fix, they used workarounds like no deconstruction that SOE put in the other day.

Only after they had grabbed all the cash they could, did/are they now attempting to make a game out of it.

There has ever been only one good free to play game.

    Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory.

They really just need better descriptions.

Total Damage per shot as number should be shown.
Rate of fire as rpm number should be shown.
Cone of fire should be shown as a number
Recoils should be shown as a number
Reload speed should be given as a number of seconds and tenths of seconds it takes to reload.
Accuracy should be given as number for short medium and long ranges.

Then there should be a accurate descriptions on guns given. like for NC6 it would say highly accurate when used with a sight, high recoil, poor accuracy when used in hipfire. A general purpose light machine guns best used with with a sight and advanced forgrip.

We were supposed to get detailed weapon numbers in the UI a long time ago.

SOE forgot, or are intentionally omitting it.

They don't want us knowing how truly similar these weapons are.

Really? And who is going to maintain that back street parking lot jammed with crap? How do we trust SOE, after unloading X rifles and X launchers and X attachments and X ammo types that they will do a good job keeping all the variables in check? I bet there's a relationship between the number of offerings available players and the volume of whining that goes on.

Don't convince yourself that "unlimited" choices is free, even in a F2P game.

The original post reffered to lots of weapons with miniscule differences at all just to milk money from customers.

You said many games do it.

    Someone asked for examples.

The ones you provided are merely the ones with lots of content. Saying TF2 is a game that spews out cheap ****** weapons in large quanities to farm money is such a big misunderstanding, i can't even begin. Lot of players keep asking for new weapons every day on forums, and while overall the weapon count is big, every time they relase they do it in small packs and with good quality.

Even thier game design mentality is a materialisation of a perfect game. They want all the weapons to look as distinguishable as possible so you allways know what you're up against. All the classes have utile roles, and don't overlap. The weapons are fairly balanced, providing for crutches to help new players get better as well as high skill ceiling weapons with a very big potential given the proper usage.
  13. Lucidius134

    tf2 isn't perfect.

why else do you think the competative gameplay of it died off? Poorly balanced additional weapons.
  14. SgtScum

Hrmmm, after playing around in the vr room at first use most weapons seem similar but when you start adding in grips, scopes etc etc and then play around for a while you notice some are much much better at ranged fire being able to down distant targets with a couple of short bursts and others are cqc spray and pray monsters.

Though yeah generally about half of the ones listed are actually worth buying so use that vr room and then finally the trial in a real combat situation to figure out what you are going to dump your $C or certs on.
  15. Fivetide

Lol. The actual content of world of tanks is tiny. There are just a few maps and its mainly just a simple team deathmatch. The amount of tanks they have dont really offer much difference in gameplay at all. You just grind a long time to get a top tank so you never have to be a lower tiered tank in matches again. Not to mention the stupid upgrade grind you have to go through to make your new tank actually worth using.

Same with TF2. The game doesnt change nomatter how many hats i have or how many slightly different flamethrowers or melee weapons i have.

They all milk money by having more weapons and items that is really necessary.
  16. Gavyne

And that, is the very definition of hyperbole.

I don't feel there are too many weapons, and I don't see them adding 400 different AR's and SMG's in the future. In fact there are 2 types of SMG's per faction, I don't see them adding more than 1 or 2 in the future. Since when are options and choices a bad thing?

While the actual differences in many weapons may be subtle, they do feel differently ingame. You take NC Heavy Assualt's LMG's for an example, a Gauss SAW handles and feels A LOT different from EM6, and EM6 handles differently from EM1. Then GD-22 feels and plays different than all 3 mentioned above. And this is just the LMG's. When I add SMG's into the equation, or shotguns, they're completely utterly different.

I don't see what the issues are really. Use the guns you most feel comfortable with, for different situations. Or better yet, use as many guns as possible and get the auraxium medals for them, and earn more certs.
  17. EvilKoala

What, you mean things like the difference between a "short ranged" weapon with a falloff ending at 65m and a "long range" weapon with falloff ending at 85m isn't noticable?
  18. Hetzau

I fully agree with OP. The only unique weapons currently are the rocket launchers for each faction, every other weapon exists in every single FPS out there. Whoever is making these weapons needs to be fired, and a new, more creative person, hired.
  19. Sen7ryGun84

Spend more time using the weapons and less time looking at the pictures and bar graphs. They all handle differently.
  20. TimoWasTaken

If they're all the same, the one you have should be fine.
