Alcohol as a diuretic is much more consistent, but caffeine is really in a different league. Just look at how many people drink nothing but soft drinks. Not saying that water isn't better at hydrating, but more recent studies have shown caffeine to have a minimal affect depending on tolerance.

I'm not even going to start with their theoretical physics discussion. I never twisted my brain in to a knot over it in college because I didn't see it as practical to understand, not unless you plan on doing research the rest of your life. It's definitely interesting though.

Hmm. I suppose that's a fair point. I've not read anything super recent about caffeine's effects outside of extreme cases. I'm a bit curious now how well a person can accumulate a tolerance to caffeine in "regular" dosages.

Obviously a 500mL soda isn't going to dehydrate anyone anytime soon, but what would a 2L bottle do if a person had one for every meal? What if they didn't previously consume any large amounts of caffeine regularly?

Darn you, now I'm quite curious. :p The broad statement that caffeinated beverages should be avoided when extremely thirsty still stands though, just plain better to drink water at that point anyway.

I agree. However I gotta say I don't care for theoretic physics in any capacity. It's too much theory, in my opinion. What's the point, when none of it is particularly useful, when none of it can be proven to exist with a 100% degree of accuracy outside of theory? Not to say I only like sciences with a practical application, marine biology is a personal favorite, but I don't care for physics.

I hadn't thought that anyone would take my question seriously or even come up with reasonable answers:eek: , good job! :D

    This thread is completely redundant.

We have a Gameplay Discussion category.

    We have Class Discussion categories.

Every question that could be asked is already answered in one of the above.

Why don't we have a "unrelated" subforum?
  6. Pikachu

    Not anymore you mean.

    Migraine =/= headache.
A migraine is a brain disease, its completely different to a headache, be that from dehydration, trauma, or anything else.
Drinking 5l of water will do nothing to a migraine.
The only think that helps me is this (sumatriptan):
    <migraine sufferer.

Pain killers do nothing at all, might aswel swallow a sugar pill.
I honestly wouldnt wish migraines on my worst enemy, thats how bad they are.
  9. Pikachu

Do the pills affect auras like occular migraine? Blind spots, sparkling patches and not being able to focus and read text is annoying.
  10. stalkish

Not sure, but they restrict the blood flow to the brain so id guess if theyre pressure related symptoms it would help.
Fortunately i dont get those other symptoms every time, just an excruciating pain that renders me completely immobile.

Sometimes i do see all sorts of vibrant colours, the weirdest one was a bright red, what can only be described as, radar blip constantly rotating in my vision, eyes open or closed was the same.

Not a nice thing to experience (migraines) so you have my sympathy completely.
  11. Pikachu

Last time I saw a bunch of squares with smaller squares inside them shrinking. Always outside focus so I can't tell exactly what tyhey look like. Half vision half imagination.
  12. stalkish

Its crazy what happens it really is.
Thanks for having a chat with me about this.
It feels good to speak to some1 else who experiences it, not many people understand, even if they are sympathetic of it. :)
  13. Campagne

True, but as far as I'm aware migraines don't occur due to dehydration or malnutrition. Knowing only these two factors as provided by Pikachu, the most one could reasonably assume is the two are either unrelated or a bad headache is being mistaken for a migraine.

If the two are unrelated, dehydration isn't going to do him any favours regardless. Especially if he just tried to sleep it off, as he'd be entirely unable to drink fluids while asleep.
  14. Pikachu

I bet drinking just makes it worse since I lose all appetite during migraine. Like mentioned earlier I didn't eat or drink for 30h. Just switching between laying in bed and sitting up, because neither feels comfortable for long.
  15. Campagne

That sounds pretty terrible, I'm sorry to hear that.

However, you should probably drink at least a little bit of water here and there. Not drinking for 30 hours plus however long before that could be very dangerous. A sudden bout of sickness causing sweating, vomiting, and/or diarrhea could even be lethal if everything went perfectly wrong.

There's also the matter of your organs too. The kidneys for example require a lot of water to properly flush out toxins and can struggle to function properly. Long-term dehydration could potentially lead to disease and illness.

Well I can't say I know what it's like to suffer a migraine, I can certainly understand not wanting to eat or drink anything for long periods of time. While food isn't really a huge deal even just 500mL of water every once in a while is important.

Why are small parrots so cute? :3
