Many people do not seem to know that you can shoot down Phoenix missiles. One round from any weapon and the missile goes wild and does nothing. If you already knew, good for you.
LIE!!!!!!! It's an Urban legend .. honest .. trust me ... No need to try and shoot them down at all ...
I used the phoenix for some while on my NC toon and it's sooo terrible.. Feels like the missile is so slow and the hitbox is so huge, that even a blind old man can hit it with his water pistol.^^
I think that flak rounds also explode near it too which makes it easier to shoot down as a Burster Max/Skyguard. I shot down about 5 in the span of about 30 seconds once and either I was just really really lucky for my rounds to hit all 5 in a row directly, or the 'rockets' are actually considered a vehicle and flak rounds detonate at close proximity. Anyone know what its like for your rocket to be shot? Many a times I've shot the rocket and it just flies straight up/ bends at impossible angles and I'm just wondering if any of the operators here can tell me what it looks like from their end?
Thats because........ it is! I'm beginning to wonder if it's actually possible to knife one out of the air.
The hit box for them seems to be huge, waaaaaaay bigger than the missile graphic would suggest. From the flying end the camera wildly spins out of control, usually this results in it hitting the ground/exploding. Very, very occasionally it does seem like you can retain/regain some control over it although never enough to really guide it.
One time I shot a Phoenix at a prowler and it was shot by the Vulcan gunner only to spin out of control directly into a Mossie for the instakill
Based off being on the firing end of it I am pretty sure most people cant see it for whatever reason.
I do this all the time. Every time I see the usual rain of Phoenix Missiles flying down from a Biolab/skydock towards our tanks, I just crank out my Mana AI Turret and go nuts. Can usually stop the swarm in 10-15 minutes when the get bored/ragequit.
