Shell drop and tanks, questions for vets

Having played the BF franchise for a long time now, bullet drop and shell drop for armor is nothing really new to me. However, I was wondering if the milidot's on the vanguard actually serve a purpose. In BF I've found that the cannon has an automatic range finder, in PS2 you do not have something like that, and learning the amount of drop a cannon has is determined just by trial and error.

I'm hoping that there is indeed a method that can help increase rapid acquisition and range estimation if possible.Anyone have some thoughts on this?

So far the only thing we use is snap estimation and muscle memory.

You might try the sniper trick (though I find it a lot less useful in actual firefights) of measuring targets in how many dots of bars tall they are to determine what range they're at. IE at X range a human target on the sniper score is X dots tall. I presume you could do the same with say, a tank, or trees. Unfortunately as soon as you change the angle your looking at your target at...

You kind of have to get the feel for it, judging the the relative size of the target to a reference point in your memory.

However, when sniping you don't have as much drop and aren't fighting at as long as a range as with a tank. You can memorize the exact headshot location for, say, 100m, 200m, 250m, and quickly judge the distance based on sight alone.

As for using armor, the marks are still useful for adjusting and memorizing shots.

    Constant trial and error.

For the Vanguard? No, not really... For the Magrider? Theres not enough milidots...

You could always spot your enemy first, then enlarge your minimap with H, zoom in or out as needed using [ and ], then right click on said minimap and place a personal waypoint.

From there, its just trial and error and just remembering which mildot corresponds to what range.

I know this doesn't answer your question, but different cannon types (HEAT,AP, HE) all have different purposes and different velocities. So if you use one then switch to another, your aim will be slightly off at first.

Render distance for ESFs with 2x zoom on Vanguard = 3 big lines.
