Planetside Battles is excited to announce the ServerSmash Tournament! A four server round robin tournament ending in a championship match to determine bragging rights among the US and European servers. Each server will play every other server once with 288 players a side on the continents of Esamir, Amerish, and Hossin. The top two servers will then face each other in a championship match.

The matches will take place on the Jaeger server over seven weeks beginning September 27th with the championship game occurring on November 8th. Games will take place on both Saturdays and Sundays to better facilitate the timing of the tournament.

Matches will be broadcast on our brand new Twitch channel twitch.tv/planetsidebattles and simulcast on twitch.tv/planetside2. We are constantly improving and expanding our live statistics tracking for these games, and each game will have up to the minute stats available on our website PlanetsideBattles.org.

Many servers are already preparing for these events, to find out how you can participate contact your servers representatives. A full list of representatives can be found here.

    RULES AND INFORMATION

    Tournament Information
Matches start Sept. 27th and run through Nov. 8th. See tournament schedule for more info.
Each server meets all other servers in turn
Matches are 288 vs 288 and take place on Esamir, Amerish, and Hossin
A virtual coin toss is held prior to each match to determine warpgates and factions

    Victory Condition
    Games will last 2 Hours
The server with the most territory percentage at the end of 2 hours wins
There are no draws, and no overtime

    Coin Toss
The coin toss will take place no later than 1 week before a scheduled match.
The toss will be streamed live by a Planetside Battles Admin and called by the Server Representative from the second listed server in the match
For example, in a match listed as Markov vs Werner, Werner would call the toss

The winner may choose one of two privileges and the loser gets the other:
    1. Starting warpgate
    2. Faction

If the winner chooses their warpgate, they will choose from the remaining factions after the loser chooses their faction.

    Continent Maps
Faction colors are representative only, and do not necessarily reflect the empires or warpgates that will be used in the matches. Maps specific to each match will be created and posted once the faction and warpgate choices are known.

  2. Prudentia

the last 48v48 i had on jaeger against US Players was already horrible because the lag was ruining every Little bit of fun that could be had.
good luck when the Server is also choking on more than 500 Players.
  3. Justicia

We have put a ton of hours and effort in the organisation for this first tournament. We've had about 20 Server Smashes so far, including 3 Merger Smashes. The size of battles and the popularity of the format have steadily increased and with the experience of the previous matches we are now ready to roll out this first tournament format. Three different maps will be used that are very different in tactics and layout. We are very excited to see how this will turn out.

We've seen multiple threads/posts on this forum of people complaining that we use Reddit and that announcements of Server Smash are not being posted on the forum.

As you can see, this thread is a big announcement. It gets buried to the second page and further within hours if not minutes. Visibility is very low, and user engagement isn't stellar either.

Yes you have to get used to Reddit, I didn't like it at first either. However, communication on Reddit is more fluid and engaging than the early 2000s style of communication of an old-school forum.

I encourage you who are interested in Server Smash to give Reddit a chance. Simply bookmark two or three of the following subreddits (you can also 'subscribe' to them on Reddit to show them on your Reddit frontpage):

    The Planetside subreddit
    The Server Smash subreddit

    The server subreddits:
    Briggs
    Cobalt
    Connery
    Emerald
    Miller

Announcements regarding Server Smashes are usually posted on both the Planetside and Server Smash subreddits. Organisation from server to make teams etc. for Server Smashes is usually done on their specific subreddits.

Our own website is under construction at planetsidebattles.org.
