So I run as VS with a serpent, as either a LA or engineer, and I mostly to mid-short range combat. I do enjoy moonlighting as a long range shot, even with my 1x reflex, and I find I do land a hit at least half the time (but I almost never take someone down myself. I just scare them into cover to slow them down). I'm usually trying to flank the enemy or get into an unexpected perch to shoot from as LA. As engineer I do all sorts of different things. I don't know if the suppressor will affect me in midrange too, trench to trench firing ranges so to speak. So as a VS with no bullet drop, do we get that much less actually damage when shooting through a suppressor from mid-long range? Does anyone have insight on which one to buy?
I asked a similar question here http://forums.station.sony.com/ps2/index.php?threads/suppressor-bullet-drop.66167/ Basically to answer your initial question, a suppressor won't cause VS to have bullet drop (unless you out a suppressor on a sniper rifle) but it will cause your Carbines and other weapons for any other class to have a lower bullet velocity, so on moving targets especially, you'll have to lead your target more (which doesn't really matter at shot ranges anyway) I find suppressor's very effective at close-mid range, but medium stretching to long range they really will drop VS's damage off enough to notice, and you'll notice your "effective range" will be lower while using one. IMO it all depends on if you want one universal Carbine for your VS Light Assault or two. As an NC player I use two, the close range GD-7F with a suppressor and advanced laser sight for all Close-Quarters-Combat which is very ineffective at even medium ranges. It is the fastest firing, lowest damage weapon we heave, but simply melts people in CQC, even HA's. I also run a more All-Around load-out, using the Gauss Compact S (which is basically the default weapon with minor nerfs that are completely negligible) with an Under-slug Grenade Launcher and advanced laser sight. This weapon is the most versatile and good in most situations, but you'll find yourself losing most 1v1 situations to other LA's with more CQC faster firing weapons. However, it's MUCH better at medium range, and has 3 fire modes, Full-Auto, 3 Round burst, and Single shot. Switching to the 3 round burst at longer ranges really does help a lot I've noticed. I feel like the VS's default weapon, the Solstice is completely and utterly amazing. I play a little bit of VS on another server and it's really a monster at close range, especially with the insanely fast reload it has. I've read a lot of these forums and it seems like people prefer different guns based on all personal preference, but if I had to make a suggestion I'd suggest the following weapons. Solstice (FREE and effective at most ranges, still a beast at close to medium range which is where you will be 90% of the time anyway, although drops off at longer range due to the Cone of Fire) VX6-7 or Serpent: These weapons are the CQC Kings of the VS for LA, they will serve you very well at their job, and I do recommend a suppressor for them. Their stats are very similar and it's all preferance. The VX6-7 has slightly lower RoF but has a noticeably better reload time, while the Serpent boasts the fastest TTK for the VS at CQC, provided you kill your target with the first magazine, since it has longer reload speed. Solstice SF: This weapon is amazing, and this is the only weapon I would use in all situations if I played VS, it has the versatility of the Under-slug Grenade Launcher, and still is a monster in CQC. I am jealous of this weapon as an NC player, and only use two carbines for my faction because If I use my Gauss Compact S against ANY VS Carbine I will lose 1v1 if we both fire at the same time in CQC. Hope this Helps
