[Suggestion] Segregate the Players

There's a divide that exists among the players. You can see it in the numerous discussions about vehicles and infantry. Everyone of them devolves into a cesspool of personal attacks. This means only one thing. These players have such vastly different playstyles that they cannot even stand being around each other.

So why have them be on the same servers?

So here's my suggestion. Open a new server for each region of NA and EU. This new server features infantry based play that doesn't allow any sort of vehicle to be pulled. Each base has a spawn room for every previous base connection attached to it.

This way these players don't have to pull Sunderers, Galaxies, or anything. They get to fight in the 2 dimensions they wish to.

Once the server is populated (maybe even allow for server transfer to speed it up), merge Connery, Emerald, and Briggs*, as well as Miller and Cobalt together.

*If there's enough people on Briggs, give AU its own infantry server.

I'm dead serious about this. I would actually prefer if these players were not on my server. I don't want them on my team, and I don't want to fight them as opponents. I'm sure the feeling is mutual and they feel the same way about me.

So lets split the playstyles up. Let everyone play how they wish to play.

id pay real money to take a battle bus there and show them the value of a swagd out sundy

This wont be productive in any way

Servers will be even more empty than usual

Id say let them complain. If they like the game theyll keep playing

I'd like it if all the players from all over the world were all on one server with good pings and latencies and all the continents (we'd get more of those too) would be stuck unlocked just because there's so many people playing and having fun at the same time.

If people want to play a generic FPS with no vehicles, they can go and do that, there are plenty on the market. Planetside's infantry vs infantry mechanics aren't on par to these other games because, well, Planetside isn't an infantry vs infantry game. Anyone who thinks that, or wants it to be like that, is a bit of an idiot.

Personally, I like to play in the knowledge that regardless of my personal skill level at shooting as infantry, if some guy with a vehicle finds me I'm PROBABLY going to be killed, unless I coordinate with my buddies.

If there were enough players for this itd be amazing

We could still have Alerts work the same except winning a continent doesnt lock it

    Thatd be a dream

This would take out of what Planetside 2 really is: A game that simulates war. War has tanks, aircraft, all that, but if you separate the people who dedicate their time into these various playstyles, it wouldn't be PLANETSIDE. Like Aza said, servers will die in a snap, moving onto games that cater to their playstyles: World of Tanks, War Thunder, Call of Duty, or just move onto Battlefield to keep the same aspect that Planetside 2 has.

    Now, I sleep.

This cannot be a serious suggestion. You are just trolling.

Also this was the purpose of Battle Islands. A much better idea than yours. What are you thinking?

Infantry players do NOT want a game free of vehicles. And we get into arguments so much because Vehicle ****ters just want to preserve their advantage. They do NOT want a balanced game.

Not naming names, but when a player comes here and adamantly argues that AA is fine and air isn't OP - then you find out he has a 0.09 KPD as infantry and a 5+ KPS in a Scythe, that perfectly illustrates the problem and the reason we don't have civilized debates here.

We want balance. THEY want the status quo preserved because they need their crutch advantage over other players. Because they lack the FPS skills to compete otherwise.

It's not a fault of players for not enjoying failed game design. You never see Blizzard saying "oh you filthy casual enjoy only questing, here's a reservation zone for trash like you, while the real players go raiding".

PS2 had potential to be a great game, but when you put together a bunch of people together without a clear objective, reward them killing each other, and then give them multiple tools for that, with various degrees of ease-of-use and effectiveness, conflicts will inevitably arise.

Players are like water, they will fill whatever shape is presented to them, through no fault of their own.

Like taste of lead said, it would kill the essence of planetside. Even if this went ahead, people would still complain. How I see it: complaints about maxes, then heavies, then infils etc. Vehicles will just say X is op and air would still have the division of you used a wing attachment to kill me, real pilots nosegun only. All of the above are either self set standards (which no one is obligated to follow) or excuses. Have I complained when there are 5 plus AI maxes on a point in a 12-24 fight? You bet I have but there is a difference between blowing off steam on coms vs jumping on forums to request a nerf or say X faction only wins due to a certain factor.

TLDR: It's human nature to complain and no matter how succinct player's advice and responses are to unfounded claims, those players will continue to find an excuse. It's basic cognitive dissonance and a cornerstone of the internet user base. :p

The problem you describe is not a problem caused by players, but by poor game design as Iridar said.

Infantry don't like getting killed by tanks because there's fairly little they could have done different to survive or fight back. That's why walls were erected around many bases to protect them from vehicle power. But that was a huge mistake. Infantry should have gotten the weapons to fight off vehicles. This could have been done in the form of non-lethal weapons that make it harder for the tanks to kill infantry or by adding lethal weapons that will add a risk-reward system for both the vehicle and the infantry user, skewed in the favor of the vehicle user but still not impossible for the infantry user especially considering the usual larger infantry force.

Segregation will kill off the game, it's already been killing off the game since the beginning because we have been segregating infantry and vehicles from each other. At any point someone is going to feel cheated, either the infantry because they get stomped upon without much they can do but extremely high skill teamplay to counter the lazy vehicle that is barely needing any skill to kill or because the vehicles are prevented from joining the fight well and proper.

We need to combine the game more, have more inter- and counter-play between every unit and class. At no point should any class or vehicle feel like he didn't have a valid option against that unit type without making himself useless for other tasks (important for vehicles who have access to AI but don't use them because it hampers your capabilities too much).

Actually PS2 simulates agricultural farm so you're either vegetable (infantry) or harvester (vehicle driver/gunner)
  14. KirthGersen

Also a few words about the subject. Well OP, the "problem" you're describing exists not because of vehicles availability.
Some people just like to farm and know how to do it and/or have high skills in addition.
If you remove vehicles, they will use MAXes a lot more. If you remove MAXes there will be a lot more C4 fairies etc. So you will cry and cry again.
  15. Reclaimer77

So a Lightning shows up and starts farming people spawning from my Sunderer. He was too far away to C-4, so I decided to take the initiative and engage him with an NS Swarm.

What a joke. I used the secondary "Higher Damage" mode and put 9 rockets into that Lightning. Just to watch him drive away behind a hill smoking a little bit.

Do you even know how long it takes to lock on, fire, and reload that many times?

And this is against a SINGLE MANNED vehicle for ***** sake. What a joke. AV is a joke. I should have just tried to sneak up on him with C-4.
  16. TOXIC_MACHAMP

do u know what a fracture max is, not enough nanites? put tank mines down move the sundie so he runs over the tank mines.
  17. Reclaimer77

    1. I wasn't playing TR - and I'm sorry but nobody should ever HAVE to pull a Max for any situation.

    2. If I was too far for C-4, why the hell would tank mines make a difference? He was staying at range, not running up on our Sunderer...
  18. IroncladBomber

The Swarm doesn't have a Higher Damage mode. It has fast but poor turning and slow with good turning.
  19. TOXIC_MACHAMP

if u move the sundie he will fallow o_O understand?
  20. Reclaimer77

Ok you have ZERO idea what the tactical situation was. And move my Sunderer? Hey moron, the Deploy Shield was the only thing keeping it alive!

Do you even drive Sunderers??? I suspect you spend more time spamming them from the air.
