155 mm artillery round impact are simulated by 20mm FSP at several velocity depending on the protection level you want. I'm talking about the STANAG protection levels. Basicly the lvl 1 is protection against rifle bullet and artillery round exploding at 100m. Before lvl 4, 20mm FSP¨requirement is optional. Cause of hit probability, size of the fragment, and because the ballistic threat is really more powerful. If the armor stand the bullet, it will stand the FSP. At lvl 4 to 6 FSP testing is mandatory because the threat of the fragment get serious. 960m/s. It's suppose to be relevant of 155mm round exploding at 25m. Lvl 6 is the 155mm round exploding at 10m (1250m/s), it's getting really serious. If the round explode on the surface, it's actually an easier game unless your armor is a simple steel shell. You will see spalling effect like with the HEP/HESH rounds.
STANAG 4569 is applicable to APC and light vehicules, i'm not even talking about MBT. No country ever agreed on a standard for MBT. For obvious reasons.

My thought is too build a better flak system because they're not getting rid of the Skyguard anytime soon, and the only way to make it more skill oriented would probably turn it into a walker esque weapon. Then maybe none of the splash damage and just more of the up close and personal damage? Without the AOE effect it'd be rather a minor annoyance compared to the current flak system to ESFs, whereas the larger your aircraft is the more you'll probably be hit by obviously.

The only skilled AA system i can think of is tank shells on air. Which is maybe what would be better if the skyguard instead fired off a burst fire autocannon system that has similar characteristics to tank shells. Which would mean pegging targets at range could be very difficult but landing those quick successive bursts on a target that's close by could be absolutely devastating evaporating target HP fairly quickly maybe even quicker than the 4s flak kill on esfs, the only difference would be its not being an AOE weapon.

I see. I think your problem is really an experience problem then. Because the vektor is extremely easy to land shots with on aircrafts (compared to the tankbuster). Consider the tankbuster has 300m/s velocity, and the vektor has 750m/s (that's 2.5x more). You need to hit more with the vektor, but it's definetly plenty fine to kill/hit any ESFs.
It's really just a matter of practice.

Some people have actually auraxiumed the vektor. I believe you can actually go look at Mpkstroff's channel and he's got footage recorded from it. Now, if you want to see a real piece of crap weapon that could use a buff or a change...

The amount of people on that leaderboard tell you that no sane person would ever try auraxing it. You'll also notice that two of them used it to farm infantry because it's so crap against vehicles (anything really).

Anyways, I'll just conclude in that a new player has actually better chance to win against an ESF with the vektor than with the tankbuster. The tankbuster's velocity is one of the lowest in the game, so it requires extremely high leading. And the long reload time means you can't afford to miss too much.

But for the purposes of planetside the case is more often than naught steel-on-steel. We're not talking the kill radius of actual arty rounds, which would be game breaking for planetside sadly...

It'd be complicated to do; but honestly, I think they should keep it mostly skill-less. The goal is that anybody can hop in and do some damage, regardless of their skill level. Lethality is of course reduced when you're alone (though a lone good skyguard can be hard to kill). But pilots will usually dedicate themselves way more to getting good. If you try to introduce an AA version that use skills, unless someone specialises heavily in there, they won't be much use.

If someone wants to use their skills to shoot down aircraft, I think -as you said- that the AP shells of tanks is what it is. And that's what it should stay.
But that's just my opinion. There might be a good system out there, but I don't know it yet.

det weapon is a piece of garbage lol. Not so much because of the damage, but because when you use the free-look option, you can't control your aircraft anymore. It just keeps going straight. So you can't turn while using free look for instance.

Grow some balls and throw away your easy-peasy no skill OP clan toys.
  9. Jake the Dog

Lol, "OP" if OP meant underarmored and hot-as-f***. granted havent played in over a month things might have changed... I have a Kodiak waiting for me...
  10. Kristan

By OP I mean when heavy mech has armor and firepower of assault mech and speed of medium.

I tried Mad Cat. 3 kills and over 500 damage with zero effort. I decided I can't play like this, easy mode. Boring.

So... IS for men. Clans for sissies. Period.
  11. Jake the Dog

Zero effort? What are you a tier 5 pilot?
(probably not the place for this discussion, freebirth...)

And I'm just sitting here in my Dakkawolf...

    Dakka-ing...
  13. EPIC389

Attach the Beamer to the Lib

    Make it more op
  14. Jake the Dog

That 2x ERPPC 1ERsl SHC with ECM and 3 HS life. That thing can play hell in prolonged engagements.
  15. Jake the Dog

Better idea: attach 500 T4 amps to the front of the lib in place of the nose gun. Then you could say you actually hit something with an amp...
