Say "NO!" to OHK knives

On PTS there are currently three new knives (one per faction) capable of being "switched" to a OHK mode quickly with the B key. They literally kill in one swing regardless of health.

I'll keep this post brief; this is completely unacceptable. OHK knives have no place in this game. They are broken in Call of Duty, broken in Battlefield and broken in any other game that allows them. The only games that pull it off with any sort of success are third person games like Gears of War (Lancer chainsaw bayonet), and even then they are much maligned and not fun to play against. They promote a game environment based on cheese and personal gratification at the expense of others, something this game has had in abundance (rocketpods, ZOE, PPA); how did that work out?

I urge SOE to immediately scrap the idea of OHK knives and focus their energies on real weapons that are fair and fun to fight against.

I'll say no to that and no to the current equip system for these OHK knives.

Whats stopping it being another weapon slot under the third/second weapon slot when switching?

Pressing the knife button sometimes equips the knife by accident when you may just want to go back to your gun.

Feel free to judge me but I feel OHK on knives should be for backstabs only.

The biggest issue with knives is that enemies can clip through friendly infantry. This was already a problem before when you couldn't shoot at an enemy soldier who was happily knifing his way through a mindless blob.

Make it so that infantry on different teams can't go through each other, and that will go a long way towards fixing knives. Only then would it be even slightly fair to allow OHK knives.

Issue with that is people blocking doorways on purpose. I'm all for solid teammates but there is a few downsides to it.

You already "can't" but the code is finicky because clientside. If one person's client says they've already path to point A while the other person's client says they've already pathed to point B, and there is an intersection between both of these paths that isn't realized until one or both parties have already gotten to their destinations, the game has no choice but to let players walk through each other. You get stopped when trying to run through an enemy player that is standing still or moving slowly, however, which is working as intended, so it only affects running.

I think he meant your enemies clipping through your friendlies. In other words: Let people clip through allies but stop on enemies. Also - blocking doorways for enemies would work way better with this feature.

This, however, will sometimes give away cloakers (especially Stalkers) as they often "park" themselves in crowded spots (on the other hand it'd not be that bad as it'd force them to try better positioning).

Dunno how much would this feature screw performance in clustered area :p

Just make them OHKO with a stab to the back like CS.

I'll say no to the PS2 icon on my desktop if they really introduce no-matter-what-insta-kill knives

Ya. Or make the OHK a secondary fire mode like CS.

    Quick knife: 250ms Delay, 200dmg.
Slow Knife: 500dmg or OHK from behind.

    Does it really matter???

Most people will switch the commissar/underboss to shoot then stab for a basic one hit kill. What is the difference??

I could live with that mechanics. What about current quickknife though? It does 500 dmg by now.
  13. Goldmonk

A solution to this would have the knifes be OHK from certain directions (a.k.a. from behind). Being able to sneak up on a sniper (such as myself) or being able to sneak through a guarded base (like what I do) should be somewhat rewarded. Knifing a player from the front or sides would remove the shield. A knife from behind will be a OHK. What game is the concept from? Halo.

Time to watch forumside ruin another game mechanic because it might kill them.

Seriously if dying in planetside bothers you maybe you guys should shove off to another game. The knife is fine. At least wait until the **** is fully uploaded to test before you start ******* crying.

    Goddamn

This is an awful game mechanic. I have yet to see an FPS pull something like this off successfully, and it's better to start the complaints now before they get too far into development.

I have no qualms about getting killed, but introducing a OHK knife will be just... just so stupid.

I think it will be pretty fair and balanced considering that everyone has a gun and the guy with the knife will be at the disadvantage if spotted (and based on the particle effects and sound stuff, they will be spotted). Its still a WIP, and I think it could be fairly well balanced in the end. But hey, maybe its because I'm perfectly fine with OHK weapons and many people seem to be deeply against them.

    Ah Planetside.

The game where a dinky little knife slowly swung can kill you in one cut, but a 150mm HEAT shell landing right next to you won't.

People, seriously. What menace is OHK-ing knife when any infantry (except MAX) is carrying a knife already and can carry a crossbow? Crossbow bolt + quick-knife is as fast as OHK with a knife for fox sake! And stop the "you have to equip a crossbow first" already because new knives will have to be equipped (AND switched into a powermode) to OHK. However I'm still asking SOE for OHK only being the case with backstabs.

    Knives should never simply OHK.
They should crit from behind, like a headshot.
Surviving even that should be possible.
If the user isn't willing to even assess their target's loadout class,
they aren't prepared to risk sneaking up that close and they should be at a disadvantage.
  20. SpruceMoose

just let me equip the knife
and swing it faster while equipped
thatd be fine with me, wont bother me if the OHK knife goes in either

I think you guys are overreacting
