[Suggestion] Respec Trained Certs for 500 Sony Station Points

I would love to see a respec ability for all trained certs for 500 Sony Station Points. This will not count in any certs used to buy weapons, only those certs used to upgrade items or your character. Any certs you used to buy weapons are spent and will not be refunded.

I know some will be offended at the possibility that a person dare respec their character, but it is a great idea for people that want to test things or become the flavor of the month (while me personally I will spec to kill the flavor of the month players).

This will do a few things.

    1) give the devs of Planetside 2 another way to bring in revenue.

    2) tempt people to spend cash on weapons versus cert points since they know they will never get those cert points back if they respec.

    3) allow players to test builds to see how they do, and give players the ability to spec out of abilities if the developers change them too drastically.

Here's what I posted in another thread on the subject, where it was suggested that everyone be able to respec:
Perhaps for premium players the 0.5 could be replaced with 0.125 (reducing respec times to 1/4 of that of an F2P)

I'd approve of this, granted eventually we'll max out everything anyways. Nothing is really wasted in the end

I do not like the idea of cool downs. Why have them? If someone wanted to test builds or see what vehicles do at top rank certs, then let them test it, buy a respec for 500 points, and let them test something else.

If a person respecs into something they like then a patch comes the next day and changes it, they should be allow to respec.

Cool downs on something like respecs are not needed when someone could spend 5000 points in one night just testing various aspects of the game before they feel settled in.

No, this isn't ps1, cert gain is never ending, why would Sony do something that's going to end up losing them money?
  6. illgot

how does an option to spend money lose them money?

It also encourages players to buy weapons with Sony Points instead of Certs because they can get the trained certs back unlike purchasing weapons with certs.
  7. Xizwhoa

Because people use that amount just per weapon? Use your brain.
  8. illgot

sorry I must be missing synapses.

what? Can anyone translate what I am missing here?

People are misreading your post, thinking you're saying that one should be able to respec individual cert trees. I balked at the title a bit myself until reading your post. I'd support the ability to pay station cash to reset all your certs, giving you the lifetime certs you've earned to spend elsewhere. Obviously it wouldn't effect things purchased with station cash, but it would at least be a small help to people that spent 1000 certs on a weapon and felt ripped off.

No need to put a penalty on it, a 24 hour timer before one could reset again would be all that is necessary if the devs have balance concerns.

    It should be for free....

Specially weapon certs except if you bought them with SC and even then, they could find a way to make it work.

Too many things have had bad descriptions or just plain sucked.......I think SOE owes us the chance to respec for free at least once......or few times a year IMO.

no it would be all the cert points spent in upgrades and training. It would be better for Sony to not refund the cert points spent buying weapons so people will be more inclined to spend money on weapons versus spending 1000 points.

BTW ImGladUMad, had to ignore you, your sig was just too annoying
  12. Cronoc

Ironic that I missed the weapons part of the OP. I'm not as sure now, the all or nothing approach is a lot easier to implement and explain, especially when by your system, certs put into weapon upgrades (scopes, rail items, grips etc) should be reset too. Could be a little confusing. At this state of the game, I wonder how many certs could really be gained from such a reset. Sure, if you max out nanite shielding or C4 it's a fair amount, but not that much in the scheme of things. The largest gains from a reset would be from certed weapons, helping the players who play for free the most. It might be something a free player could actually justify spending on, too...

But I see what you're going for. Why not, as long as it's clear what's being reset for the user's $5 of station cash.

Just earn more certs. This request makes no sense in a game where you can earn unlimited new certs.
  14. illgot

Except it gives the developers another source of revenue, allows players to enjoy the game more, and has little effect on your game play.

It is just another option, nothing that you have to purchase.
  15. Rothnang

So let's say I have 5000 certs about, and I can always just buy a respec and put them somewhere different, that means that every time I decide I want something certed up badly I can just snap my fingers, pay my 5 bucks and get it without any effort or time investment.

How is that going to give them more revenue? I just lost all incentive to pay for the items that increase my XP gain. I mean why should I bother with them once I have enough certs to become a master of anything a want with a respec? For the price of Premium which runs you 15 bucks a month you can buy a respec every 10 days according to your idea.

It makes absolutely no sense, because it not only competes with their existing business model, but on top of that cators to the me me me, now now now crowd, who's going to be off to play the next big thing anyways in a years time, while snubbing true long term players.
  16. Akrasjel

    No
And even if 500 SC is to low make it 10 times that
  17. Elbryan

    I would love to respec.

I think SOE could make a lot of money with it too. 500 SC is a bit cheap though. I think 1000 SC would be more like it. ...I don't really understand why I'd suggest a higher price though. More money off my wallet. =(

I don't really know what kind of details the reset should have. But some sort of mechanic would be nice.
  18. illgot

Yes, exactly. It does not compete with any model that currently exists because any certs used to purchase weapons would not be refunded. Only upgrades.

Snubbing true long term players? Tell you what is more important than snobby players, players that are willing to spend money.

why? Because you are afraid people will dump their bad or broken skills for something more useful?
  19. illgot

bump because someone else wants this in another post.
  20. Mightylink

I could really use a respec option, wasted so many points on my engineer at first only to find out when I started joining squads that engineers where way too over populated... I know you can always keep earning more but it still feels like you have to start over when you want to try another class >.<
