    Whats the big deal with bragging or putting people down because of their K/D? I always play engy/medic and sometime I pull a max out when I feel the urge to lay waste to people. I get a few kills here and there but im mostly dropping ammo, repairing or reviving.

    So, now the general population considers me bad because of my .6 K/D ratio? Cause I'm not a flyboy like you?

    Nah, the general population doesn't care. The general population logs in maybe a few hours a week and then go about living the rest of their life without thinking at all about whether the people they played with are skilled gamers. If we had fun, we had fun. If we didn't, we go find something else to do. It's just a very very small minority of people with their entire egos invested in gaming skill that go around trying to belittle the casual gamers to feel better about themselves. Don't worry about them.

    I play LA most of the time and as LA my job is killing. (my KDR is in my sig) I dont like this nerf to exp. I usually aim for those engies repairing turrets or the max units giving our air units hell from a landing pad. I keep the defenses from buffing up so we can move in while the enemy is still trying to keep up their defenses. I use killing in a way that helps the team by going for high priority targets.

    An hour as a Infil, sniping people will get you a high KDR as well and if you position yourself right and ohk, you won't be discovered and easy kills, especially if there's a battle raging.

    So

    Infi = meaningless KDR
    Tanks = meaningless KDR
    Air = meaningless KDR
    Infantry farming sundies = meaningless KDR
    Infantry charging in and dying a lot (to keep the pressure on) = meaningless KDR
    Infantry running around in the thick of it and getting lot's of kills (does this happen?) = probably the only meaningful KDR
    Infantry trying to defend a spot and dying = meaningless KDR

    However all of the above can have a meaningful affect on the battle, whereas the KDR is so easy to manipulate it means nothing and yet "people will quit the game if it's removed"

    i'm a fanboy and i dont mind having 0.31 KDR ... this ain't counterstrike, the point is not to get KDR but to win

    even in battlefield the only reason KDR matered because each team could only lose 50-200 lifes before the lost

    here dyeing is part of the game, there is no negative anything about dying all in ps2 ... if i could i would suicide bomb too ;)

    or set my self up as bait till my platoon is flanking the enemy from behind

    its all about capturing and destroying spawn points, witch team run out of spawn points will lose... its thats simple... otherwise no team will EVER run out of reinforcements
  6. TheArchetype

    That argument isn't quite as valid as you think.

    however much I agree that kdr as a stat means very little, I completely disagree that killing is of little importance in this game o_O You can't do anything but ghost capping unless you can kill other players, now I know that in this game it's much easier to get away with being unable to kill anyone since there's about 200 other guys behind you doing it but get me platoon that doesn't shoot vs a platoon that shoots and well, we can all see who's going to dominate the map o_O

    Now the emphasis on idiotic stats is ridiculous and they shouldn't even be around just for the sake of community health but it draws some people in and keeps some playing so devs will never get rid of it. That said, being a good objective player does not mean rushing an objective mindlessly and dying over and over until it's capped, you actually need to kill and clear enemy players around. There's a difference between focusing on just kills and actually being a good player that plays the objective and just being plain bad at either or both.

    That said, I die most when repairing turrets during a base fight where turrets could make the difference, ill get my kills when i'm not shot from 20 different directions while repairing but if that's what I spent the majority of the time doing I'm sure my kdr would be .00001, doesn't mean I couldn't hold my own when my back wasn't turned and I was wielding something other than a repair gun but I sure do raise Bobtheturrets kdr while mine is dropping. Now only if I could get someone to watch my back while I was repairing it, all our KDRs would be nicer.

    Anyways, anyone can raise their kdr, just go use an HE tank or lib for a bit and BAM 15/1 k/d ratio is back! kdr means nothing to me and I highly doubt mine is low, probably average, so nothing special. Still means nothing since I can pad it anytime with vehicles.

    Definitely love the new XP system.

    "Nerf Exp" you say OP? This is going to be an exp boost for people that *actually play the game*. AA might actually be somewhat rewarding to play finally. Assisting your friendly tanks as a Heavy will be rewarding now. They are working on making more methods of play rewarding than simply spawn camping and farming.

    Your KDR should have absolutely nothing to do with you being able to acknowledge this as an overall positive change to the game.
  9. Morpholine

    I think you'll find that in practice it will work very similarly to PS1: The first couple of minutes of battle are fantastic xp, with it quickly dwindling to a trickle as the fight rages on and people take repeated casualties.

    I, personally, prefer the current steady income.

    Oh darn, you're missing out on my smexy VS logo and so-so character stats.
  12. I Keel You!

    KDR? I thought most people in a game like this was only concerned about CPP (Certs per hour) or SPP (Score per hour) so they can buy their shinies faster
  13. hostilechild

    No one really knows what this means yet. Maybe they make a player start at 50exp and it goes up from there i doubt it as people are already mad about slow progression.
    Hopefully they are smart (yet to see it) and leave starting exp for infantry at 100exp and it goes up the longer they live/earn exp. Similar to kill streak stop bonuses. Ever drop a 12/12 galaxy or sunderer omg the spam goes on for minutes!! I want to see some spam for single kills ;)
    Personally i don't bother to camp the spawn doors or run in first, i prefer to let the meat heads do that and trip the prox mines etc. While i go grab a drink/food etc. Then check/scout for the next base to attack.
    I also tend to be the first max to push a point or run off a pad into a fight. Had maxes earn 50-0 defending a gen (boring but effective) and had them die after 1 kill getting the zerglings to finally move. Rushing a heavy defense and breaking it was much more satisfying, especially if you live(rarely).
  14. Deschain

    Personally i can't wait for tunnels, makes my Prox Engineer very happy
  15. Vorpal

    I feel like KDR should be calculated only after removing deaths from 'suicide' (where you spawn beneath a sunderer" and 'friendly' fire.
  16. Blitzer

    Good player => good kdr
    Good kdr =/> good player (ie. think the "true sniper [tm]" who get 3 kills/h and very rarely die)

    What is a good kdr is ofc up for debate and the number probably varies between inf-ground-air.
  17. Dkamanus

    People aren't really getting the picture. Kills ARE important. AS important as revives, heals and repairs. This is the problem most KDR padders fail to see.
  18. failbot

    Only thing I really dislike about the patch notes is the invulnerability thing.

    Either don't implement it on revives or make it break upon moving.

    2,3 kdr btw.
  19. Morpholine

    It depends upon how long it lasts (without artificially ending it).

    If it's long enough to load into first-person and assume control, but not much longer, it will be fine.
  20. failbot

    They said that it cancels when entering a vehicle or using a weapon which to me would imply that it's more than just a second or two.
