since when does k/d matter in an objective based game?

Show me time in proximity to platoon / time played.

That. my friends, is a statistic that matters.

It's not about saving anything. It's about not rewarding players who use cheap mechanics to glean rewards.

It doesn't matter how many times I die. Death means nothing in a video game. What matters is that you should not profit from my vulnerability just because you aren't man enough to face someone on even ground.

All is fair in war, everyone needs to die, but cheap tricks should not be rewarded. It's objectives that should be the only rewards, not kills. Objectives win wars. Kill ratios are pacifiers to a simple mind, making them think they are doing something which matters. A nation can kill 80% of the enemy and still lose a war, that in fact is the norm in guerilla warfare. It's why western nations have failed to defeat the enemy in every war it has fought in the last fifty years, they only focus on killing and not objectives (other then making money, that's their true "win"). Therefore a game set in war, revolves around team work, must only reward objectives to get players involved in the objectives. Kill xp should be removed completely. Damage xp should be put in line with the exact amount gained by repair, hack and heal xp; they should all give the exact same amount per point. Objectives should be the only massive xp gains in the game.

    Didn't defend?

    No xp.

    Didn't participate in the attack?

    No xp.

Just lamed around shooting things but not reaching objectives?

    Limited xp.

With that said, a central command that issues objectives without player involvment is a must. It's also very easy to code.

"Enemy fighters detected in yada sector, kill them."

    "Scout yada sector"

"Armored column detected in yada sector, kill them."

    "Take and hold yada sector."

    "Defend yada sector."

    Etc.

Those would be the only way to earn xps in a reasonable amount, while still giving limited xp for roles; shooting, hacking, healing, repairing. Failure means no objective xps, means slowest leveling rate in the game. This weeds out the real soldiers from the chicken**** nobodies who currently top the leaderboard.

I would rather fix player intelligence, but that is much harder to program.

And while tunnels will become a new spot to target, the tunnels will connect from the inside of the bases from what I understand. So you'll have to fight your way through the defenders to cut off their reinforcements. The only difference will be that you can't cut off their reinforcements before you ever do anything to take over the base.

And I really don't think they are making the change to invulnerability after spawn to prevent camping. I think it's to reduce frustration of not knowing why you die due to loading semantics and the temporary lockup the client experiences when that happens.

I see no more crutches being added this time than before, when AA damage was reduced prior to launch. Attack is the preferable method of gaining certs. This will, for better or for worse, improve defense.

Hey its what you get if you make a game about kills and XPs.

    Lemme put on my [IMG]...

    o_O

Not sure what rustled your jimmies, but okay.
  10. Cevera

Well, logical the majority of people will have a KD lower than 1
    And? who cares..

And they will have to give you full EP after somebody has 1 kill.
Cause the average grunt kills 1 or maybe 2 guys before the dies.
If only people with 5+ kills give full EP, than 80% of the kills will give less than 100ep^^

And the tunnel in the tech plant will just replace the teleporters they removed with the last patch^^

since when does k/d matter, period.

They are increasing Support XP and making it so instead of farming sundies (xp vending machines anyone) they will just kill the sundie. i see no problem with this. and no i am just barely over 1.0 KDR i spend a lot of time either piloting a lib/gal or a sundie.
  13. Vortok

Maybe you have a few more hours played than him, and are thus a no lifer that automatically views video games as srs bzness?
  14. Cevera

Oh that guy will love me :D
  15. Tasogie

hehe I have 320 hours played before I stopped playing everyday all day, I would argue that a low k/d (if it means anything at all) means you are enjoying the game, an not giving a damn about what you do...
Call me crazy, but people with low k/d are playing the game correctly.

KD was an irrelevant statistic that had nothing to do with Cert gain (which actually matters).

Now a high K/D is going to make you a target for certwhoring, and all the mechanics that have nothing to do with how many people you actually kill but how well you contribute to the battle are getting buffed in xp gain.

    Love it.

Also love the OP substantiate his claims of them 'nerfing xp'.

    I guess.

I don't think the couple hours a day I manage are all that excessive, but different strokes, I guess.

K/D is a bad metric in a team oriented game. Frankly i wish PS2 would have used a system like WOT, where exp was based on actual damage done. it should have not been that hard to set up a repair/healing/damage done system.

I have no issue with KDR being in the stats screen, it just shouldnt be the way exp is generated. At any rate, changing xp on recently spawned players, will have zero bearing on spawn camping or not. camping a spawn is the single easiest way to take a base most of the time.
  19. LordMondando

It was never the way XP was generated.

And now its penalized ever so slightly. Hurrah!

Want to see yourself a topgun, you risk being hunted. Arguably how it works in reality.
  20. HadesR

Very true .. Which is why a lot of these things such as lower XP can't be taken as single item's, but need to be viewed with the other changes in mind ( ie: spawn room's ) and with other changes that might be planned.
I think we will get a better idea how good or bad changes are when we hear the 6 month plan , since they may or may not be building blocks towards the metagame or something bigger.

Atm it's pretty much kneejerk reaction's
