[Suggestion] Redesign tank mines

Eng's get C4. Argument null and void. You have an alternative if you can't use mines.

So what? Different tactics: timer/proximity and manual trigger.
  3. FateJH

Even if I got some XP taken away from me for it, as opposed to earning any, I would still run off and suicide mine/C4 that S-AMS (though I rarely die from the explosion anymore).
  4. Carl 99

No same tactic. Run up place, boom.

    a) Run, place, boom.
    b) Run, place, wait, boom.
    c) Run, place, wait, trigger, boom.

With C4 you have to trigger it manually, with mines you have a timed explosive. Different tools, allowing different tactics, but able to do similar job.

That's really not the way PVPs work though...I wish that I could beat people purely with my desire to win, but I actually need to shoot them/be aware of them, and that kinda takes skill  .

99% of tank farmers are so absorbed in the killing that they'll never notice that the engineer was there until the tank goes boom. Plenty of opportunity to slip in and out safely.

The reason I proposed it was because I KNOW we've all seen well-guarded and well-placed tanks/sunderers fall to those idiots who will rush in (be it on foot or with a lightning tank) just because they'll get heavily rewarded for their lack of effort.

Wait wait, we are idiots because we play the game as it is meant to be played? WOW... just wow. LOL I would argue that tank spamming is both juvinile an silly playstyle, but it is your playstyle so your welcome to it. The fact that one single engie can kill your tank amuses me no end an I take great delight every night in doing so to the crys of "hacker" an "I'm gonna find you an kill your whole family you.....blah blah"... Having played pvp in many many games as far back as Tribes 1, I am very much aware how pvp works...

eg : See badguy, kill him in any way you so choose, as long as you take as many with you ask you can. It was a good kill.If someone refuses to pay attention to their surroundings then it is their fault an they have no comment to make of any worthwhile interest.
A "well placed an well guarded Sunderer will not fall to 1 engie very easily.if you want to stop a lightening from rushing you, why dont you use your head?, it is the simplest thing in world to stop.

I will even do all the brain work for you.
"Use Turrets... get 3-4 engies to put turrets around the Sundy at range but not to far out, an you are basically protected by Tank traps".
As usual what this boils down to, is people refusing to use all the tools an imagination they have at hand to defeat this system

So the devs designed AT mines with kamikaze tactics in mind? I somehow highly doubt that. One could make the argument that it is how they designed it as it's still in the game, but let's not forget that time when our lovely devs decided that shotgun infiltrators who could fire while cloaked were a good idea...

I'm not trying to take away or even nerf your best tools (nor am I trying to insult your intelligence or competence, be it directly or discreetly). And I openly admit that when I lose a tank to mines it's usually due to hyper-focusing (sue me, everyone falls victim to hyperfocus at some point in this game, and if you say otherwise, you are lying or not human) when I could have prevented it. I'm fine with that though, it's a lesson I should have long since learned and while it's annoying I can hardly call someone who successfully ATed my tank a noob when obviously they capitalized on my lack of awareness - something that should be promoted.

But I've also count of how many times I've lost my tank to engineers who will ram my tank in a lightning (or sometimes a flash that pops out from nearby cover), jumps out, and slaps three mines onto my prowler, taking out himself and my tank in the process. And if he dies twice but gets me on the third attempt, he's still coming out ahead in terms of points. If I'm in a sundy and I kill an engy four times but he gets me on the fifth, that's STILL a positive cert gain per life (if you count it in terms of kills or 100 pts/kill). I know we've all seen it at least once or twice in pitched battle.

I'm not calling for anything that would punish skilled play. I'm just saying there should be something in the game that causes real consideration in deciding on a suicide tactic. Something that doesn't reward it.

it isn't rewarding suicide (though even if it was, who cares, as most think kdr is the be all an end all, an don't do it. But for some of us, suicide is how we play the game. I will ALWAYS suicide into a massed group of enemy, an I "should" be rewarded the kills I take with me, It generally cost me alot of res to do it. It is also the reason I play, as suicide rushes are great fun an highly entertaining for a number of reasons.
Not least of which are the
    Death threats
    Reporting for hacking
    Screaming race hate an filth
along with generally watching them melt down because THEY failed to protect themselves.
I doubt SOE will destroy our gameplay simply because some people refuse outright to use the tools given to them.

    Agree no change is needed

I've done this a few times (I prefer the Flash, personally). I've had it countered a few times by a trick I will reveal to you now. When I dropped the mines, the MBT moved backwards about 5 m and then I got a cannon shot to the face. No explosion followed. I thought about reporting them for hacking because really, who moves their tank?

Seriously though, if you see an engineer drop a couple mines under you, you have a couple of seconds to move out of the way. It takes a couple of seconds before the mines arm and explode (this is why you can only drop two mines at a time under a vehicle before backing off, even if you cert for more). They don't stick to things like C4 and it's pretty tough to get mines on top of a vehicle when you're getting shot at (believe me, I've tried). Avoid that area, or roll to a safe distance and blast it, and you're safe. If you saw the guy coming, that is plenty of time to get out of the way. If you didn't see him, well, he'd kill you just as easily with C4 so it's not really relevant what he was using.

Now, you're kind of screwed if that Flash had C4 on it, but you don't have a problem with C4 so I guess that's okay. I guess if you're in an anchored Prowler you're in trouble too, but that's the weakness of siege mode.

Everyone is forgetting that my problem isn't with engineers who are intending to survive, my gripe is with those engies who are going to drop that third mine on a sunderer, despite it leading to their likely demise, because 1.) they weren't going to get far anyways and 2.) it's completely worth it. They exist, and there are many of them, and there's no denying the fact.

I'm NOT saying, "nerf mines" - I'm not even asking for them to force a drastic playstyle change. I'm saying "Implement a penalty for suicide," as I firmly believe that it'll encourage thoughtful play, while not actually taking away any of the engineer's options. Not to mention that it reaches further than just mines (pilots who will suicide just to deny a more skilled opponent the kill, for example). I, for one, am perfectly willing to take a 60, 70, 80% hit to my cert gain if the sacrifice means the TR will take the ground.
  14. Zenanii

You can still kill vehicles with it, you just have to wait several second between each mine drop. Against a "undefended" sunderer the outcome will be the same, but you will no longer be able to fly a suicide lightning/esf and just chuck out mines instantly to kill said sunderer.

I got it maxed on my sunderer and level 2 on my magrider. Mines do nothing to me. Do you think this is good gameplay mechanics?
