@thunderstealer - some of the drop off will be all the kiddies heading back to school/college/uni but yes the game hasn't done itself any favours. I personally believe that 30-40fps will be the sweet spot for this game, as regardless of the CPU you have you are also relying on things like internet speed, routers, modems, ISP throttling. I assume SOE are monitoring this as well, maybe ping limiting players might help? There are so many factors for this type of game.
Post your .ini then please. I'm running a virtually identical rig to you, only slightly faster, and it's not possible for me. So either you're talking BS, or I'm not using the most optimal settings.
And by "identical only slightly faster" you mean? [Display] FullscreenRefresh=0 Maximized=0 FullscreenWidth=1920 FullscreenHeight=1080 WindowedWidth=1024 WindowedHeight=768 RenderQuality=1.000000 Mode=Fullscreen FullscreenMode=Fullscreen [Rendering] GraphicsQuality=3 TextureQuality=1 ShadowQuality=1 RenderDistance=-1.000000 Gamma=0.000000 MaximumFPS=250 UseLod0a=0 VSync=0 OverallQuality=-1 LightingQuality=2 FogShadowsEnable=0 EffectsQuality=3 TerrainQuality=3 FloraQuality=3 ModelQuality=3 ParticleLOD=2 MotionBlur=0 AO=1 More input here: http://forums.station.sony.com/ps2/index.php?threads/cpu-gpu-performance.61855/ Granted I have not played much after GU2. Here is from today meassured with FRAPS; Arriving at the fight Frames - Time (ms) - Min - Max - Avg 4730 - 64210 - 47 - 104 - 73.665 Throughout the fight Frames - Time (ms) - Min - Max - Avg 2770 - 56223 - 39 - 60 - 49.268 I paused it every time i died of course. So average 73 fps before the fight with minimum at 47 and max at 104. Throughout the fight I had average 49 fps, minimum 39 and max 60. Location - The Crown Roughly size of battle - Medium / Large My AMD overdrive and MSI afterburner during the run: Looking forward to your reply on "slightly faster" and how you set up yours.
Thanks so much for that, I wasn't expecting such a detailed reply. I'll be trying out your settings with great interest.. I can see from your GPU usage that you are similarly CPU bound as I am. My rig is currently an FX-8350@4.8, 8gb 2133Mhz CL9 and a 7970@1.2ghz, so you can see what I mean by slightly faster than the rig in your sig. With your settings I would expect to see similar, if not better results. If not then I'll be a bit stumped! Out of interest, are you using an SSD? Edit; Err, hang on. How come your render distance is -1?!
-1 sets my render distance in game to max! 6000. Subsequently I got the worst fps I've ever seen around the crown, instantly dropping to 20. I've no idea why you don't have the slider, we've no way of knowing what your render distance actually is. I suspect that if you deleted your .ini and started the game to let it create a new one, you would then get the render distance slider in the game. I'll drop it to 1500 and see what happens. Edit; nope even render distance to 1000 (which is the lowest option in game) and it still drops to 21fps while fighting on the bridge by the crown. What GPU driver are you using?
OK, so Mrs Wolvers was DLing something AND I disabled HPET at the same time as trying your .ini. Too many changes in one go so I set them back, BUT just came from a heavy battle running at ~40fps nice and smooth. Woot! Never had that. Render distance was at 2000 as well. I'm actually looking forward to playing some this weekend now. Game looks a bit pants though now, I might have to try out some GPU heavy settings one at a time to see if impacts fps much. Maybe textures to Ultra first. One thing I did though, that I'm sure gave me ~5fps, was to drop max voice channels down to 40. You can't go much lower than that without the sound quality going really bad. I also set the audio sample rate to 44100 but I don't think that had much of an effect on fps. Edit; totally forgot I put effects and particles on low too. Code: [Display] FullscreenRefresh=0 Maximized=0 FullscreenWidth=1920 FullscreenHeight=1080 WindowedWidth=1024 WindowedHeight=768 RenderQuality=1.000000 Mode=Fullscreen FullscreenMode=Fullscreen [Rendering] GraphicsQuality=3 TextureQuality=1 ShadowQuality=1 RenderDistance=2002.000000 Gamma=0.000000 MaximumFPS=250 UseLod0a=0 VSync=0 OverallQuality=-1 LightingQuality=2 FogShadowsEnable=0 EffectsQuality=1 TerrainQuality=3 FloraQuality=3 ModelQuality=3 ParticleLOD=0 MotionBlur=0 AO=1 [Sound] Master=1.000000 Music=1.000000 Game=1.000000 Dialog=1.000000 UI=1.000000 UseFloat32Output=0 ExclusiveMode=0 HitIndicator=1 LowAmmoIndicator=1 VehicleChatter=1 MaxVoices=40 SampleRate=44100
Wait.. Am I missing a slider for the render distance? Hah didn't know that. Always figured the game would either adjust it automatically or that you had to do it in the useroptions.ini file manually. Must say idk if I want to delete it and let the game create a new, what if it messes up my FPS Edit: I'm running 13.2 drivers (beta), but I haven't noticed much difference since before 12.11 really. Not even sure if that driver helped much. Yes I have the game on an SSD with 550/510 r/w.
Yeah, you're missing the render distance slider. I don't blame you for not wanting to risk changing it!!
As long as people put money into this game, SOE is not urged to optimize this ****** coded program.... Im am nearly alone in a biolab and get below 20 fps with a 4GHZ Quad Core and GTX580 .......
[GPU] limited at warpgate or middle of nowhere, 20-30 FPS, which is fine. But in busy areas on Indar I was [CPU] limited and down to <10 which is not playable. This is on my MacBook which has a quad-core i7 and 6750M with latest Catalyst beta drivers. I play tons of games on this laptop and I've never had performance issues like this before. Edit: Should add that my settings are rock-bottom. The game looks like Quake 1.
I have just set my seetings to the same level. Really does look like Quake now. In busy areas I am getting 0-5 fps. But when I played in busy areas during Beta I was getting around 30-50 fps, and on the Highest Settings. This game has gone right to the bottom. It's unplayalbe. I can remember in November they promised Huge Improvements in Optimization but an increase in 5 fps isn't a huge increase. I uninstalled the game today simply because they have used a game engine designed for HIgh End performance and now I just think they are wasting our time. My friend is a Computer Technician and Custom made his PC, it cost him over $5000 and he still can't play the game great, it constantly lags in busy areas and still lags in empty areas. SoE have used one of the most unplayable game Engines I can think of to date. I really don't know how they are gonna be able to make Everquest Next work when it is gonna be much larger and more detailed. They should have just used the Unreal Engine 3 for this game.
I have gotten rid of my stuttering now by reformatting my PC but there is still a very noticeable loss of 10-15fps in biolabs/tech plants now, which really sucks ***. I just avoid them as 25-30fps is just beyond a joke.
Have you tried the .ini settings I posted in the other forum? You should get better fps than me with your 3570k. Increasing RenderQuality to 1.410000 and setting TextureQuality to 0 has helped quite a bit with keeping fps around 40.
I did actually try your settings but I ended up being GPU limited at around 50fps, which is still great but it still dropped to around 30fps, mind you this was Miller server Allatum Bio Lab at peak times, maybe I was pushing it a bit lol.
