Question: Was there a previous iteration of cloaking that was more visible?

    Less, no.

    Seems to get worse everyday...oh yea that's right. I am the reason for all the Cloak nerfs.

    Early on, there was an issue where players on lower graphics settings could see cloaked infiltrators more easily. This was (supposedly) fixed.

    As people on reddit have said, the cloak is easier to see the faster the infiltrator is moving and has a shimmer effect when shot (negated if you equip the Chameleon Module).

    Yes,although that was a long time ago.

    Nowadays, unless you're stationary and crouched you are still at serious risk. Crouch walking is only detectable up to 15m or so and the deep operative implant can reduce that some (although I wouldn't bother with it). Walking or running while cloaked is very easy to see, even at a distance, although many people won't be able to pick up on it if they are looking at something else.

    The main thing affecting cloak "visibility" is the skill of other players and how capable you are at not moving when someone is likely to be able to see you. Most (not all!) people who get shot while stationary weren't so much seen as guessed as to being there.
