Question for NC and VS. What is the source of TR negativity?

    Hey guys!

It is so hard to read these forums nowadays because of all the pointless arguing especially from TR players what should be buffed and nerfed. So I wanted to make a thread that tries to understand what kind of people play faction TR and why they say things they do. In all fairness TR players you are welcome to make your own thread about NC/VS players.

I'm sorry to say that, but I think most of the pointless negativity comes from TR players ( or atleast players with TR avatar) To make this simple here is a list of arguments/questions/thoughts that I have compiled what I think TR players are made of.

Color red. Does it make them more angry?
The default voice is quite nasal and angry. Is it something to relate to?
Maybe somebody said to them when they joined TR that they would rule all continents?
Most of them must play Battlefield Heroes.
Are they farmers, because they are all the time talking about it?
They think that they are as organized as professional military.
    They are very vocal...in forums.
I don't think TR player can run a marathon.
Do they have a sense of humour?

    ...

    So how would this continue?

It depends, really. There are two major subfactions within the TR. In the first faction are primarily those who have read and understand the lore, and who feel a moral righteousness to their actions. Similarly, included within this first faction are those who don't care about lore, but who feel responsibility to their empire because of length of service, social commitment, etc. These people are not the problem.

The other faction, the 'vocal minority', don't actually care about their faction. Instead, they care about personal gratification. They want buffs to the things they use and nerfs to the things that kill them for no reason other than that such a course of action would benefit them personally. These people are happy to dress their complaints in faction loyalty, but it runs hollow. The true TR feel faction loyalty, but understand that if TR are hugely OP, then there will be no enemies for the TR to crush. The vocal minority, however, use whatever comes to mind to gain personal satisfaction, including dressing insults as 'empire banter' and calling for buffs to their playstyle.

On the whole, though, I don't believe that this problem is particularly limited to the TR.

First: I play VS on Watterson.

I really only have one reason I hate the TR. THEY ARE EVERYWHERE ALL THE TIME.

I have rarely been on when the TR have the lowest pop on any continent. Normally I would see something like this:
    Indar: 38%
    Esamir: 27%
    Amerish: 52%

(did not choose to put certain percentages with certain continents for any reason) It seems they always have at least one continent where they are dominating and they have a significant pop on the other two continents. It really pisses me off.
    Vs normally:
    Indar: 53%
    Esamir: 34%
    Amerish: 6%

(for whatever reason there is never anyone on Amerish, the other two are interchangeable though)
I also kind of feel bad for the NC on Watterson because I feel they are often out numbered by both Vs and TR.

Actually I was hearing and interesting discussion about population limits per continent. It was interesting though I think it would be better to have a limit per server. Maybe, limit the pop of any one faction to 2100 on any server at any one time (2000 is 1/3 but 2100 gives some wiggle room). But that is another discussion not necessarily relevant to this one.

can't speak for everyone but I feel kind of gyped that TR doesn't have increased RoF like they're supposed to. Here's my analysis of the different faction weapons:

Vanu - incredibly accurate low bloom low damage weapons with no drop
NC - versatile weapon array with some of the highest RoF weapons and high damage weapons with higher bloom
TR - Extra ammunition per magazine. low damage weapons with moderate accuracy and bloom.

Anyone with any experience in gaming will tell you extra ammo per clip is about the worst benefit you can get* since you can't use those extra bullets if you get killed before you can reach them.

I'm not even going to go into how bad the MBT discrepancy is.

*unless the weapons are weak enough that it takes more than a whole regular clip to kill anyone.

I play TR because I was TR in PS1 and because my outfit plays TR. That's pretty much my reasoning. I like playing NC as well though. Very rewarding when you get the "feel" right on the weapons.

VS, never was my cup of tea. Mainly because I just don't like purple I guess. I did like the Lasher in PS1 though. That was a fun gun to use.

Members of all 3 factions provide feedback, and some members of all 3 factions exaggerate that feedback instead of sticking to reality.

Blaming one faction just shows bias, do you have any idea how many "NC need buffz" threads there have been?

Admittedly VS tend to make them less often...

    There's two separate things here:

1: Everybody would whine about something here, be it Vanguard shields or Vanu flavour-of-the-day or the TR's grandparents, and I take all of that with a grain of salt the size of a freight truck.

2: On Waterson in particular, TR can hit 50+ percent of the population and I'm getting really tired of mowing them down so much. So there's that particular bit of negativity.

It's definitely not limited to the TR, take the VS for example:
-There's those who joined the VS because of the lore. You generally don't hear complaints from these guys (not even before the VS buff back in beta which seemed to have permanently tripled NC crying)
-There's those who joined the VS because of sci-fi pew pew lazors... Don't hear complaints from them because they still shoot pew pews.
-Then there's the minority that joined VS because they think it's OP. From my experience, the other "classes" of VS hate them because they're cross-eyed and kill more teammates than enemies.

I've also played NC for a good while and this is what I saw from them (but it may have changed a bit since I played NC):
-There's those who joined the NC because of the lore, guns, etc. just like the other factions.
-Then you have the vocal minority that only care about personal gratification. They cry seemingly endlessly about being underpowered (although the majority of NC has no trouble with the weapons they have). They make situations where an NC zerg will take over a place, you'll see 10 yells about "freedom", 5 yells about "space murica", and then that one guy that makes a comment about how something TR/VS is overpowered and/or something NC is underpowered.

I personally feel that TR is one of the more powerful factions and perform better with their gear and equipment, but now play VS due to friends and outfit.

With that said... from personal experience TR is completely full of trolls. On my server the only people to deconstruct their vehicles before they're destroyed have been TR, not a single NC has done so to me. The only times I've been intentionally TK'd have been while playing TR and the hardest faction to get support from has been TR. They're absolutely no fun to play with or against, only fun to play as.

One thing you have to keep in mind when it comes to continent populations. The pop is 100% then divided between the 3 factions. So lets give use some fake pops just to demonstrate my point.

    Indar 34% TR - 33% VS - 33% NC
    Easmir 31% TR - 39% VS - 30% NC
    Amerish 71% TR - 8% VS - 21% NC

Now looking at that, it looks like TR is all over the place in strong numbers.

Now think about it, that doesn't tell you how many people are on the cont, just the percentages. So Indar which is extremely popular might have 1,000 players on it, Easmir has 347, and Amerish has 23. ( I just made these numbers up, not meant to be some actual stat I pulled from somewhere )

So that would give TR 340 players on Indar, 107 on Easmir, and just 16 on Amerish. So while it looks like the TR is strong everywhere, it's actually that certain continents are just very weak. I've logged into my NC guy a bunch of times and seen a high pop on Amerish, and we have the cont locked. By high pop I mean over 90% NC. I go there, fly around. turns out its basically 10-12 guys hanging out in WG doing stupid stuff in aircraft and recording it to post on youtube.

So don't go off percentages, they aren't nearly as accurate as they look.

That's easy. The type of people that play TR are the same type of people playing NC and VS. I play all 3 empires, and the people are the same.

I can sum up the TR and probably the cultural sense they pass on to others (I leave it up to you if you consider it negative) thusly in one word: Teabagging.

Its the only faction whose soldiers I can recall I have ever seen do this particular gaming phenomenon when I die to them and I watch the view pull out and over my corpse. And I die a lot and being on Waterson, its more often than not to the TR soldiers due to their population and multiple other advantages in weaponry.

I've taken to, when the moment is quiet after a kill, pulling out my silenced pistol and double tapping a enemy faction's soldier's corpse in the head as my own method of passing on a inter-faction message, I like to think its just a tad bit more respectful :D

Edit: Oh that and their weapons HURT, that smaller CoF and high RoF smacks me down in situations where it doesn't even make sense - "Unloads clip into enemy back, half the shots missing ~ TR turns around jumping and BRRRRP brings me down ... wait, I thought I got the drop on them!? WTF" . And that whole thing with Total Biscuit and the Brits. ;)

I've seen about 15-20 VS shoot at a TR corpse for a solid 10 minutes in allatum one time after we capped it. NOW that sends a message! haha

    No True Scotsmen.
  17. Talizzar

I am BR47 TR Matherson. If I had it to do over I would probably play NC. I do much better with their weapons than I do TR. TR is spray and spray and spray some more and wait for the assist. NC fire a few shots that are deadly accurate and you are dead. Vanu is silly easy. Hardly any recoil and no bullet drop and very little damage drop off that would be considered noticeable. VS compared to most TR and NC weapons you have no recoil.

The guy with the numbers got it right. Last night Esamir, TR had 0 percent of the pop! Yes nobody! Hard to believe.

I am so sick of Indar but we never seem to leave the damn place.
  18. MikeXD84

    NC = cry babies
    TR = angry
    VS = egocentric

The players don't choose a faction, the faction chooses them.

    i think its quite simple.

noone wants to loose, someone has to.
those who loose either change to the side they "think" are winning better or cry for nerfs and buffs (probably cause they spent certs and SC)
the rest of us just get on with it and complain about the cheaters more than anything else.

you get rid of the nerf/buff whiners by allowing them the ability to change faction... with their sc/certs in tact and the items brought swapped to the equivilant.

noone really cares if people change factions, but it will stop alot of the nerf/buff chatters. I think from that one side will become overpopulated and then people will complain that their server is too full and they need to buy subscriptions to jump the queues.

all in all, it doesnt matter what SOE does here. Whiners will always Whine, and haters will always hate.

heres my tip. if its not fun, stop doing it.

    Perfect answer.

I play TR because of the first reason. I'm not perfectly studied on the lore but to my understanding the TR are literally the ONLY faction that fights specifically to bring peace and unity among the splintered factions, with the ultimate goal of re-establishing contact with the home planet. The NC fight essentially to overthrow the TR, and while that may be a just cause(I personally don't believe any faction is "right" in this game, the TR could be the "good guys", but that pretense is overshadowed by the fact that they are authoritarian and oppressive, they don't want anyone to kill each other, but they also aren't big on human rights), they cause a lot of havoc and civilian deaths in process. The VS are just plain evil as far as I'm concerned, a cult of technology fanatics who want to crush everything that refuses to convert to their cause, much like the Necromongers from chronicles of riddick.

As a TR player I feel like I'm fighting for the best cause, despite the pitfalls.
