PS2 could learn a lot from...

There is a post about PS2 learning a lot from BF4. I read it and there might be something that could be taken from BF4 but I really think PS2 could learn more from PS1.

Its almost like the devs never played PS1. PS2 is really a dumbed down version of PS1 and they took way too much from games like BF and COD.

I say less CoD and BF ideas, with lots more PS1 ideas.

PS2 could learn some from RTCW:ET and from assault mode from UT, at least for the base design/layout.

Can we have PS2 learn from SW:BF2? I'm not sure what they'd learn, but I do love me some BF2.

Agreed. Combat is generally fine as it is, despite too short ttk's, but the rest of the game is ... meh.

They could learn something from Killing floor, what's your point?

RTCW:ET, how i miss thee. Any class based fps game should have ET as it's holy grail ;)

    RCTW:ET -- where it all began :D.

ET did have a lot of "move the objective forward" maps (usually a vehicle that had to reach a certain point). They were fun because it really focused the teamwork of a side.

Not sure if "move it forward" would work in PS2, but it might add more variety.

They already have it, it's pretty popular, it goes by 'Zerg.'

I don't know why either, but I totally agree.

But in all seriousness, this guy helps highlight how vague the OP is being. What do you want to see PS2 take from PS1, OP? :p

Honestly it had it all. Perfect class balance: despite medic stack in competitive play you needed all classes (covert ops was hit and miss). Completely skill based gunplay with near perfect ttk. Bunch of redeploy based strategy. Objective dynamic that just hit the spot (i am of course talking about ETpro, competitive mod).

Oh, I remember what it is now! We need fusioncutters! Being able to hack into the enemy vehicles would lead to some delicious ragemethinks.

Nah, Hoth battle with fun trench battles and taking down AT-AT's with a dinky scout plane and some cables. That's where it's at, bro. Show them nubs why the real world doesn't use walkers with long *** legs.

Push the tank to the point where it can take out the mg nest, then reconstruct that mg for your faction, now pointing in the other way. Blow up the tank traps, escort the tank to the bank, blow up the bank door, steal the gold and put it onto the truck, escort the truck to the exit.... And that was just one of the simpler maps.

Most maps also had unique features, like this one desert map where you could construct a water pump to drain water from a tunnel, opening up another passage (ofc, the enemy could destroy the pump to flood that tunnel again).

I've yet to see another game do team based objectives in a balanced and interesting way like RTCW:ET did.

BF4 could learn some things from PS2 right now. Insanely low TTK (lowest ever for the BF series) combined with near PS2-tier hit detection is horrifyingly frustrating to play.

Aside from that, though, BF4 is a quite a solid game. You have to remember that it took BF3 and all the complaints everyone had for that for BF4 to get the changes it needed.

Planetside 2 needs to take more from Planetside 1, not BF4/CODwhateverthe****numberitisnow.

planetside 1 was based off of tribes 1 and 2.

The idea of having bases with a single generator and capture point had a gameplay they thought would be perfect for larger FPS scale gameplay.

Battlefield 4 nor call of duty has features for large scale warfare, it really falls flat when the gameplay is this shallow.

Yeah, fire the guy who designed giant robot camals for war.

RTCW: ET was my personal favorite multiplayer experience.
First f2p evah. And no microtransactions at all.
