PS2 actually isn't P2W enough

In my guild I think almost everyone has spent at least some money. I don't think we have the insider's knowledge needed to really guess how much money PS2 brings in but I will say that when they introduced those whale horns for the Galaxy, EVERYONE had a bloody whale horn and the only way to get that is $$$.

Look at all the customized uniforms, hats, witch cackle horns, vehicle accessories, etc. That's all $$$.

We can only guess at how many people spend money on guns rather than saving up certs but I think it's a lot more than the OP believes.

How is this game even pay to win at all? All I can really think of is some camos sometimes confuse new players into thinking you are a friendly and you can buy nanite resource boosts.
  3. PhoenixError

Can you trial a gun for a day or two? If not, I'd do that first before making it more P2W. Can test them in VR, but nothing beats field testing, and if you get a gun for a day or so might end up liking it and splashing the cash so you can keep it (instead of cert grinding).
  4. Leftconsin

Trials are half an hour. Once the trial is done you have an 8 hour cooldown before you can trial a diffferent weapon, and a 30 day cooldown before you can trial the weapon you just used again.

As a comparison over in the world of Team Fortress 2 trials are one week. Cooldown is one week. AND! you can trial what you just trialed right away.

The industry frowns on the monthly subscription model, but it works for many players. PS2 being microtransaction has cost SOE money in my case. I love PS2 and would happily spend $10 to $15/mo access fee. But they don't ask for it! Instead, they setup a model where getting the most value out of the system is part of the challenge. I bank SC when it is on 50% sale. I buy weapons when they are on sale. Hell I've been playing off and on since 2012. I don't actually *need* any weapons except for directives. What is there that compels me to spend money??
"You should buy stuff to support the game" PS2 isn't a charity. Look...what do they teach girl scouts at 10 years old? You've got to ask for the sale! Give me a reason and ask for my money. PS2's best asset isn't guns or camos or XP boosts. It is the gameplay itself! Ask me to pay for that and I'll do it immediately.

Yes you can trial guns, including vehicle weapons, max weapons, uuh.. things like rocket launchers, side-arms.

My issue with the trial: during the trial, you don't get access to the scopes, attachments etc.
For example: shortly after I started playing, I trialed the "close range" bolt action sniper (SAS-R for NC). Sounds great right?
Well.. unless you unlock attachments with certs/SC..
I was hence stuck using it with iron sights, no "straightpull bolt" (so the rechamber action only starts if you go out of ADS) etc.

Likewise with some other stuff I trialled; no sights, no compensator, no forward grip, no advanced laser sight, ..
giving an impression of a downgrade of a weapon.

TR&NC directive LMG's are being overhauled, expect a change in next patch update

Remember: I made Amerish free; so everyone has that. Maybe 2 continents should be free at start.
This type of issue would happen I'll admit.
Otoh, seems to me certain outfits presume people have everything unlocked.
(ordering people to pick specific loadouts & weapons..)

One "F2P" option is : during one month, you get a week access to one "paying" continent; or something like that.
If you're a subscriber: access to all continents, all the time.
If you pay for the continent: access to that continent, all the time.
If you're not a subscriber, nor payed for any continents: get access to the "default" continents, +1 other for 1 week/month.

Those issues of "I don't have that map/expansion pack" DO happen in both MMORPG environments and things like battlefield.

Platoon option: only players with access to X continent can join/ only players on X continent can join the platoon?

People are smart enough to not spend real money on weapons they can earn easily in-game... the only thing Station Cash SHOULD be used for is cosmetics, not weapons... and certainly not attachments, no idea why they added that option. Certification Points are extremely easy to get, and free to get mind you, it also leaves you with something to work for, instead of buy instantly. I earn certs quickly, without easy methods such as Liberator farming, nor do I have a subscription for an increase XP rate... play a support class (Engineer or Combat Medic), this will earn you certification points quick and easy, as well as help out your team more than being a Heavy/Light Assault.

nothing beats being a member come double points weekends. ++

there are lots of weapons worth buying, alot easier than grinding certs for.
  11. MotionBlured

Cosmetics that are reasonably priced, and good looking. Allow people to buy 2-3$ worth of SC, bring out those cheaper items. Pennies make dollars if you get enough of them.
  12. asmodraxus

One, introduce new vehicles, weapons Tec
Two, increase cert cost for weapons to 2000 and for empire specific buggies, bombers to about 5000 with only the basic guns and create a whole raft of good effective guns, nc bomber has a very large splash, tr fires lots of bombers with minor splash but a very rapid fire, vs have a plasma blast that stays put and burns targets that run away from the burning.
Three, lower the SC prices so ppl buy stuff other than cosmetics
  13. patoman

The game has plenty of microtransactions, just not pure pay to win.

Money can be used for guns (do actualy impact gameplay) but other then that everything else can olny be unlocked by certs that are erned. So money does a advantage of more certs with premium, and saving certs for weapon unlocks that cost allot of them, but over all not too much. Which is good.

Big thing is though anything cosmetic costs money, if all you care about is KDR you never have to spend much money, if you like anything other then somewhat bland default aperences then you got to pay.

I agree with the model though as others pointed out, the cost for a digital gun or aperence is pretty high, offsetting it are the sales.

They ask on the in-game map screen. Says something to the effect of "Buy something so a dev can eat"....
  15. blzbug

Ask the fired devs how well that worked...

PS2 isn't a non-profit charity, where people give money out of pity. They need to come up with a sustainable pricing model. The current model already failed. Problem is, in the PC marketplace, PS2 has already shot it's wad. The playerbase simply isn't going to expand that much. That's why the PS4 launch is so critical. Success there could fuel PS2 for years. Hence the timing of the DB purchase. They have the opportunity to revamp the revenue model before the PS4 release. If PS4 had launched with the current model, it was doomed to a slow failure just like the PC version. If DB gets it right with PS2/4, they could have a really nice cash generator.

Remember when everyone was on Indar because everyone was on Indar and they had to develop a system that specifically shut down Indar just to kick people off it? People chose to play on Indar forever, when the option of going elsewhere was freely available to them at any time.

Now imagine what it'd be like if you had to pay $5 to get off Indar...

I thought FOR SURE this had to be a troll post.

    Not P2W enough?!? LOL WAT?!??

11/10 good sir. Best unintentional troll post.
  18. Crator

I was being factitious in my last response to you. I doubt the monitization model will change much but I guess we'll see? I'd imagine they would keep the same pricing model for both PC and console though.

Who says the existing pricing model isn't sustainable? They just finished making enough money to cover the cost of the initial development of the game.

dear god, indar is already the worst continent that people tend to cling to(least developed bases, bad design and horrid balance for each warp gate), they might make more money charging people to go to indar.
