"If you haven't played this then you can't have a say in how this game should work."

Please explain to me how that isn't what you just said.
  2. Isila

Because "You misinterpret the OP's argument because you don't know, fundamentally, where he's coming from" is not at all the same thing as "you don't get a say".

Especially, you know, when it's posted as a response to "lol OP just wants vehicles gone".
  3. Motherload

    +1

    and /signed for all suggestions.

there is alot of this that is discussed in /y and i'm sure teamspeak and ventrillo's around the world
  4. Snowskeeper

Thing is, what you're saying is not that "you misunderstood the OP's post," what you said was "you can't understand what he's saying because he played a game." This is not Planetside 1. This is Planetside 2. Nothing happens in a void, but this is a different game from Planetside 1, and suggesting that it isn't isn't going to change that.
  5. Isila

See folks, this is what I'm talking about. When I wrote that original post about last-minute ANT heroics? That's all vehicle-based gameplay that takes place inside the courtyard walls of a base.

Which people that played PS1 would know.

Hence the misinterpretation of 'vehicles play too large a factor in the game right now' to mean 'lol get rid of vehicles'. Which is wrong.

Hit the nail on the head, Buzz. Posting here in hopes SOE gets proactive about this games glaring flaws.
  7. Snowskeeper

    I didn't say that.
Seriously, if you can quote me ONCE suggesting that that's what I thought this post was about, I will edit all my posts except the one about influence to say "ignore this."

What I said is that suggesting that this game has any obligation to be exactly like the previous game is unfair, and that suggesting that people who haven't played the previous game don't know what they're talking about is doubly so. Not everyone on this forum has played Planetside 1, but I can guarantee you that the vast majority of the people on this forum HAVE played Planetside 2, if not all of them.
  8. Isila

You may not have, but the post that was being quoted and replied to did.

You might want to read the quoted posts that are being referenced by posts you're about to reply to with cynicism, bro. Just sayin'.
  9. Keystone

Agreed. Logged in to throw you a Cert-- err, Like, Buzz.
  10. Snowskeeper

I wasn't replying to his post. I wasn't replying to your response to his post. I was replying to what you said in that response, and that was that anyone who hasn't played the previous game can't understand and doesn't know how this game should be. I haven't played Planetside 1, but that's irrelevant, because, again, this isn't Planetside 1, this is Planetside 2.
  11. Ironsand

+1 from me, they all sound like changes that would improve the game.

Even though I was reported and banned by his cronies for saying so in a previous thread, I happen to think Buzz"Lightyear"Psycho is one of the scummiest pukefaces to ever walk this earth. That being said, I have enough fortitude to admit when an argument is bang on. And his points ladies and gentlemen, are bang on.

There is even way more beyond what he has said, but he has covered some serious points. If there is no dev response to him, the 2nd best player in the world, and the fact this thread has 30,000 views, then I will have given up my extremely limited hope that SOE has the capability to remove head from rectum.

just want to point out a detail about amp stations>>>>>>> its a prison; designed to keep attackers in and defenders out. Walls are indefensible and turrets are deathtraps.

What ever happened to automated turrets? and if you own an amp station and the turret is in the amp station, why does it overheat at all?

as far as experience for kills. It should be less than the experience gained from heals and repairs...or removed all together.

Glad to see this post get some attention in PC Gamer. Maybe it will even have an impact on future development.

Great post and great ideas! +1

Probably not, people like Higby are pretty full of themselves. They do the "we care about the community" for PR purposes, but deep down they feel they know whats best in every case whatsoever.

Disagree that HE should be nerfed, instead, players should be mindful of it and just not bunch up.

Agree that buildings and bases in general should be more defensible - and give us a reason for really defending them. Am sick of seeing bases completely vacant a few minutes after capture.

Also agree that one of the largest problems with the game is cert farming. Maybe a simple fix is to just to let players know their spawn point is probably being farmed. Look at the average lifetime of the last 30 players who spawned there. Look at the recent kill counts of any hostile forces. Also, a good idea to decrease the XP reward for killing recently spawned players. Maybe give them a few minutes grace before they're worth the full XP.

That's BS. Higby is a creature of pure adrenaline and enthusiasm, and he was exceedingly communicative with us during beta and before. He used to invite us to watch his livestreams during tech test, and would talk to us and explain things during and after.

He's a good guy and I like him. I just disagree vehemently with his e-sports bias, is all, and feel it's detrimental to the franchise. But that's more or less the cry of 'don't like things I don't like.'

We'll see how this all shakes out before summer.

I cannot overstate my agreement with the points you have made. I really like your idea of reward players for driving enemy aicraft away; I often use flak turrets and 9 out of 10 times I don't destroy the enemy aircraft, but I force him to change his mind over his attack. Would be very nice to actually be rewarded for this.

100% agree with the farming points, the other day I watched as an ESF and a liberator farmed kills (was early in the morning, about 3AM so not many players online). They were actually half the map away from their own territory! Messing with the other two faction's battle - and not supporting thier own troops. Your ideas to prevent AMS farming are spot on in my eyes. I will say, that I always focus on destroying the AMS (As I favour tactical gains and teamwork to KDR, honestly) but this will encourage those who are the other way around to actually further the battle instead of farming - spot on again, sir.

Totally agree that the current game's emphasis is on KDR over teamwork, and I find myself feeling that I could not have summed up the situation better. I often find myself pulling up the scorebored and though I always say "It's not about kills or deaths, it's about winning the battle" I always feel that urge to not let it slip to negative. Your points over an emphasis on teamwork related stats are spot on.

You have hit the nail directly on the head with this post, sir.

I agree with many points here. I would add that the infantry lock on rockets should actually lock on and target. With current certs there are players that can actually get in and out of range within fifteen degrees of movement for the infantry person. Other certs for aircraft allow them to move in fast, break lock, move fast still, throw flare, possibly break lock again, but usually they are out of range before a timer for another lock break again. Many times they don't even animate the flare. The craft just disengages the lock.

Then there is a whole nother group of flyers that can break lock because game physics were poorly crafted. They do the flipping reverse forward thrust with after burner and it confuses the game logic so they don't even have to spend the certs.
