    I play a light assault.

My ability as a player is determined by my KDR, my contribution to my team, is determined by the same stat.

I infiltrate behind enemy lines and take out generators, and kill the enemy players. Both of these actions reduce the strength of the enemies front line.

Heal/ammo, are cute stats to know, but pointless in the grand scheme, because not everyone plays those two classes.

Don't get mad at me, I switch to engineer/medic if we have an immediate need, but I don't stay as those classes, I enjoy the LA.

I am a team player, but I play this game for my enjoyment, not yours. I tolerate deviations in my play style to help the team. A lot of people don't. Driving them away to fill a narcissistic need to make this game a copy of PS1 is a terrible idea.

    yes, remove KDR

i find ourselves compairing our KDR in outfit quite often, a player should not be judged by his/her KDR.
i would like to see a stats page containing how many kills overall, how may repair points, how many heal points, how many revive points people have got, somethink like this.

also the cert gail needs to be normalized, give infantry more possibilitys to gain certs!
Atm cert gain in vehicles is ok (some may think it is too low overall...), but infantry cert gain is definately too low...

And please, please reward teamplay.... the HE driver in the tank will alway have a much higher cert gain, than his "g30 walker" top gunner, but top gunner will keep him alive against podders, same with liberators.

Also a option of full shared exp gain for squad would be nice, but only as option for high organized squads.

    greets

Some of these are the right problems, but wrong solutions.

Getting rid of a death stat as some means to influence a player's decision has no basis in reality. Tribes Ascend doesn't put up a death stat in-game and it has zero influence over a player's mindset. Even if you did remove the stat, you would then have to remove kill streak bonuses as well. Likewise, spawn invulnerability is a terrible idea. Players should be punished for spawning at a hot Sundy, not encouraged to invul spawn zerg from by Sundy deployments.

I think a better solution is what they did in PS1, freshly spawned enemies only reward a fraction of the XP on kills. Say if you're only alive for 30 seconds you only reward 25xp when you kill, after a minute its 50xp, etc, etc. Combine that was an increased vehicle destroy bonus and HE farmer loses a lot of its luster.

I don't think grenades are much of a problem either. Maybe reduce the price of the unlocked grenades to give more incentive to switch, but honestly I find it no more offensive than some of the Thumper spam of PS1.

Vehicles do need to be thinned out. Bumping up the resource cost and timers are both valid options, but I think they would need their armor and survivability slightly bumped as well, maybe just one extra rocket to the front. And if you reduce the number of vehciles, you are in turn making the "indefensibility" of certain buildings less of a problem.

you must be smokin some REALLY good ****.

buzzcut isnt even CLOSE to the best player in the world, of ANY class.

i have the dubious honor of running across him quite frequently, and i've NEVER seen him win an engagement on his own.

he either always steals the kill from his own teammates, or simply runs away and suicides if he's about to lose an engagement, even as infantry. sure, running away may make good tactical sense in a bad position, but the problem is, even when he started the fight with the upper hand, if he gets outplayed, off he goes to suicide.

about to kill his lib or tanks? eject, de-res, suicide.

h'e's a terrible player who has aboslutely no personal skill. all he does is farm any situation in which his targets are completely unable to defend themselves. the ONLY reason he's bringing any of this up is because he's almost max battlerank, and he doesn't want anyone to use the same tactics against him that's hes been using on the population of mattherson since before launch.

if he truly cared about any of the **** he's spouting in this thread, he would have made this a few days, a week at the most, after launch.

not over a month later when he has nothing more to gain from using these 'tactics'

im not saying he's not making good points. i actually agreed with most of his post. i just know what kind of player he is, and he doesn't believe a word of this. he just doesnt want to be subjected to everything he's done to us on his way up the ladder

Reading this threads raises a question that I must ask:

How many of you actually played Planetside 1?

Planetside 2 needs more work - more development, yes, but it's still as good if not better (I personally would say miles better) than Planetside 1, which I played for years.

KDR Will always be a part of the game - I mean, objectives should be the focus of gameplay, yes - but, these objectives should be defended, thus creating a battle where KDR plays a role.

I play Heavy assault mixed in Air and Tank weaponry, as Heavy assault I go for objectives and captures, and expect a fight in between myself and those objectives
During battles, I may fancy a change, and play air for a bit, or support with tanks.

    Farming wise, its player choice.

Let me say that again, loud and clear.

    PLAYER CHOICE

My KDR is always positive, and usually 2+- but, Have I EVER farmed?

No. I capture bases on the front lines, go for generators - things that may progress the battle forwards.

    I mean, from your comment:
Just shows that your mentality in the game is completely wrong. No ones forcing you to farm a AMS, so why do it?

    I don't, and I get along fine.
  7. Rolfski

If you position yourself as an opinion leader but do not live to up to these opinions, you're not exactly making yourself more credible in my book. And when you lead a big outfit, yes you do have to lead by example imo.
  8. Odium

I think it is hilarious that Buzz is talking about teamwork and K/D ratio when just night he was farming our spawn with HE rounds on a tank. The base was capping and there were 1000000 TR outside. The true "team player" or "leader" would leave only enough o hold the cap and move the rest on to cap more, not just sit and camp.

If you want to see the change Buzz YOU need to start it.
  9. Mordekai

The importance of KDR is a social construction. This mentality is perpetuated throughout the FPS genre regardless of what SOE does here. Because of that, it's a little inconsiderate to eliminate KDR from a FPS game. However, it's significance should be severely reduced. More emphasis should be placed on the points per hour score, and inclusive of tactical applications.
  10. SGTHACK

Players are judged by K/D not by what they do on the battlefield. This is wrong. I have done everything Buzz said in his thread to keep a good K/D. When, I wish I would have stormed a building and tried to take it. Remove K/D and let us play the game the way it was meant to be played. Plus do the things Buzz talked about to improve game play.
  11. ReaperLSW

I played PS1 for a long time, and this game doesn't hold a candle to it.

It's narcissism to want a better game now? It's narcissism to want to remove or tone down narcissistic features from the game?

Odd that his complaints about base design and certs are called "other critiques". The guy focused on the KDR complaint, I guess that's the most controversial and thus article-worthy thing.
  13. ajma

I agree with most of it, but we won't see any changes.
  14. medbot544

I am almost at 6:1 K/D. Not that good, but for me it really is considering most FPS I am lucky to be at 1:1.

Regardless, this is all I focus on; I don't care about nothing else and take great pains to make sure I make each and every life worth it. Remove K/D stat and I think PS2 would be much less stressful for me so I would be fine with that.

Now the problems with PS2 I have is several.

    1) Slow cert gains and high costs to things you can buy with it. Seriously....50-70 hours worth of game time to get one more AV mine is just dumb. This is with boosters and prem too.
    2) No real meta game. There is no real point here other than cert farming. Base getting capped? Who cares, wait till they flip it then go and re-flip when they leave later. Easy certs and maybe you get to whack a few stragglers as well. PS2 needs more than this.
    3) No real MMO elements that define to me what a MMO should be. Games like WoW are still big, even to this day cus they cater to all sorts of players: PvPers, RPers, PvEers, etc. PS2 is niche and only attracts FPS PvPers who must have really awsome machines to even run PS2 at a playable level.
    4) Bad design around having no common cert/weapon pool for all characters. You can only really focus on one server and a handful of classes/vehicles essentially. If that server dies or ends up just sucking: too bad! Now factor in point number 1 as well....
    5) Base design totally needs to be redone. There is no doubt here, PS2 fails in this out right.
    6) You must encourage the CoD bois to stick around so cater to them! These guys are legion and will not be happy until this is Call of Planetside 2. May as well buckle to them now cus they will NOT stop crying.

p.s. that last point is heavily coated in sarcasm, son.
  15. JohnDoe

I agree with everything but the KDR change. I think if the other changes are made the KDR focus will change on its own.

One thing about vehicles that PS 1 did differently was it punished vehicle only drivers with boredom if they didn't want to get out. The forward push, once it got into a base, made vehicle kills more occasional. This means that if you wanted to get any kills for the next 20-30 minutes being indoors was the only option (ok, or perhaps farming outside a different fight).

I know the devs probably don't want a fixed timer because of the boredom of waiting for that timer to expire, looking to PS 1 you get an answer here too. In PS 1 you could leave the SOI and still get experience for the cap, as long as it went through and you were there for some/all of the killing portion.

Grenade damage should be halved so that they aren't killers, but equilizers/finishers. That would keep them in line with their current costs.
  16. KodiakX

I agree with everything in the original post.

The whole current point of the game is basically to farm. Continent locks are meaningless because resources are meaningless. That leaves farming for certs the only real point of the game currently. Once you reach a certain point (like I have at 53) where the things you are interested in doing are maxed out and the things you aren't really interested in doing have enough points to be usable the whole grind for certs thing starts to get really pointless and old. I didn't play over half the 12 days of double XP time recently because grinding in a Biolab is unbelievably boring and there's so many people there you can't accomplish anything.

After reaching that point you start to look towards rewarding tactical play and it just isn't there. The lack of a lattice style system creates "tactical mush" which basically means a side can literally go anywhere from owning territory. An offensive or defensive front basically turns to mush because there are very few tactical lanes created in the game. You can't go, "Well they took X, so next they will have to attack Y." and instead you get "Well they took X, so they can attack S, T, U, V, W, X, Y, Z....!@#$"

The lack of infantry fights are disgusting in this game and really reminds me of PS1 after BFRs were released and no one wanted to get out of their BFR to actually attack a base. This is probably the #1 reason why I am losing interest in playing currently. I love a good infantry fight and even the Biolabs (the supposed big Infantry base) is just a bunch of people huddled in invulnerable teleporter areas shooting out of 1 way shields and 20+ people camped outside on the pads firing at the 20+ people camped on the inside. Is this supposed to be fun? My choices are go be fodder kills for vehicles or sit inside a dome and wait for the other side to possibly, maybe make it in and attack? Terrible.

There's a lot of potential here, I hope they fix it sooner rather than later.

There is grinding. There's a big map you can travel on and take over, items, classes, non-linear specialization,non-linear specialization with levels, vehicles... don't know how you cater to PvErs and RPers, but I think that's the best you can do.

    The guy who wrote this

already has the advisor developer job.

All of SOE is still on vacation... since Thanksgiving.
  20. AstroCat

Just throwing my voice in of support for the OP. I'm right there with him or at least very close on almost all of his points. I think PS2 is a really good game, with the potential to become a really great game with realistic tweaks and modifications.
