Poor framerates

    Hi all,
I'm running an i7 4810MQ and Firepro m6100 (about an 860M) and getting 15-25 fps in planetside 2 on very low, with the CPU as the limiting factor. This seems very low, any ideas?
    Thanks,

    I can see two problems.

One, the FirePro series of GPUs are not intended for gaming. Much the same as nVidia and thier Quadro series.

And a potential two, arent the MQ CPUs intended for mobile systems?

Yes, it is a laptop. However, in benchmarks the m6100 performs almost exactly the same as a 770m or 860m.

Well the root problem here is that youre apparently trying to play a relatively demanding game on a workplace laptop.

Also the benchmarks should only be used for comparison between manufacturers. PS2 doesnt do as well on any AMD GPU compared to thier nVidia equivalents.

Also, how hot does your hotplate laptop get when running the game?

How much memory do you have? and what is your operating system (how may bits)?

The default clockspeed of i7-4810MQ is 2.8GHz. It may have four cores and eight threads, but Planetside 2 is a game that does the bulk of its work in a single core environment. You'll probably want to boost that near the acceptable limit of 3.8GHz, paying special care to how much (more) heat that generates. Deactivate any forms of hyperthreading that may be active and make sure your CPU cores are unparked.

The Firepro m6100 is an AMD GPU. Even if it is comparative in specs to something, AMD GPUs don't get along the best with of Planetside 2. For now, however, we'll just say it's fne while its drivers are fully updated, and the GPU is a non-issue. In fact, it may be an extreme non-issue at the moment. Running the game in Low means that the CPU is attempting to handle the graphics processing as well as the game's normal processing. Your GPU is not doing a lot of significant work, if any. Try turning the game up to Medium, at least, just to see what kind of results you get.

Just as a sanity check, you should check whatever graphics card manager software that GPU comes with and make sure that your planetside2x64.exe file is using the GPU and not an integrated graphics card. For other AMD systems, I know the way to do that is to set it to "high performance," but I'm not sure if it's the same for that one.

I just tried CS:GO with everything on low, I got around the same results.

Yes, it is set to "high performance". Actually I just posted in Toms Hardware with more detailed info, here is the link: http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-2239535/extremely-poor-framerates-games.html

    I am using a Precision M6800 with 8 GB RAM and Win7 Pro 64-bit.

Yeah, just wanted to check. I've seen other less savvy people post similar threads and it was something silly like that, since the regular client is automatically loaded, but most of the time you have to add the x64 bit client manually. It could be something on your end, it could just be that that game isn't super well optimized. Hopefully someone can find a way to help!

    In this video:

someone is running planetside 2 fairly well with an i5 3230M and 650M. My specs are far superior, yet I am CPU limited and get about half the framerate on Medium. My PC shouldn't be performing this badly... Thanks for the help everyone though.

Well, I fixed the problem :). I looked through Catalyst and the number of displays supported was set to 6. I changed that to 1 and am getting a smooth 60FPS on medium in PS2 and 40 on high in CS:GO. Thanks for the help everyone, I feel like a bit of an idiot now.

It's because it's AMD... AMD runs PS2 poorly.

I would think that it processes video information very differently though. Basically Gaming cards can draw pre-rendered stuff that's already set into place while workstation cards focus more on actually drawing out plans and lots of lines that would have to be loaded or added to and the purpose of it is being able to load plans with such detail and intricate designs with a quickness .
