99% of the cheaters out there are simply using the programs that they got from elsewhere. Sony will never be able to stop the dedicated few, but the cowardly masses that just use other's software are the ones they'll catch, so might as well have some fun with them.

Make them pink and highly visible. They would become the fourth faction to shoot at. Bad plan if they're in a majority though. Sure hope not. :p

Like an Invasion of the Body Snatchers scenario. "Oh my Lord, they're everywhere!"

Not if their account is permanently flagged mate. We'll have to see what happens. I'm hoping to see some big banwaves in the next week or two.

I think this is cool. I mean, you can pretty much already stop them from playing the game, but if you just immediately ban them then they'll get right on making another account.

Though you do run the risk of making the game just seem like **** when it appears to not work right. I remember a DRM which ended up hurting a game's sales when it caught cheaters, where it just made the game run poorly for them instead of putting up a wall. The problem was that the cheaters simply spread this info around about how poorly it ran and everyone thought that the game sucked as a result.

But doing something subtle would be better, more entertaining or no. Banning just means they know they've been caught and have to move on. On a free-to-play, I'm hoping you do more creative stuff than just ban them since they can just start another account. You control the server information even if they modded the client. Just make them second guess themselves and **** them over.

Why can't we just put them in the tubes in the biolabs?

Oh wait that was planetside 1 now we got Biodoms, sorry my bad.

Ironically that system has never been an issue with properly pirated copies.

But we are veering off topic here.

99% of so-called hackers are kids downloading scripts

Still think hackers and Griefers should be put in bright orange jumpers and chains with a sad face. For hackers, the char can only have 1 class with prison garb. For Griefers, it can wear off after grief lock is done.
  13. Nathaniak

What about making them count as enemies, so they can be identified by their constant raging about teamkilling?

Just make their only spawn point "The Puddle"

I agree whole heartedly banning them is not serious enough of a punishment.

Hilarious, make them the laughing stock, entertainment for the rest of us, virtual stocks with virtual rotten tomatos

Banning hackers in a free to play game is just as effective at getting rid of them as punching your monitor. They will keep coming back as they can easily remake accounts, and publishers can pour hundreds of thousands into anti-hack solutions over the years and still be engaged in this wild cat and mouse game.

The same goes for serious trolls/offenders on forums who entertain themselves by disrupting the community.

Hellbanning/Slowbanning/Errorbanning/Etc. is the #1 most effective concepts of psychological warfare used against this type.

Or just ban by hardware ID, MAC address, etc. You'll never see them again. On that account or any other if they use the same PC.

I'd rather they display as a pink unicorn that farts rainbows for 10 minutes, and then get banned.

Such as you need a sense of intuition.

Would rather have the Devs focus on maintaining the integrity of the game and optimizing the game engine, than wasting time trolling degenerates.

Not only are most of your "hilarious" ideas impractical, many of them would do more harm to the game from a mechanical perspective than you could possibly realize.

Want an easier fix? Run something akin to Punkbuster during the launcher start up. If the client determines an alteration has been made let them sit at a 99% loading screen indefinitely.

Or, just ban them, and create a forum thread which lists their names, faction, and server.

Psychological deterrence is the proper way to remove a hacker. The reasons for hacking are numerous although the number one reason (In my opinion OFC, less you can find a study, and cite, that can prove otherwise) is purely for ego boosting. With a F2P business model SOE runs the risk of attracting much unwanted attention with creative answers to a problem can be a boon to their attraction, assuming a majority of players will not hack this is beneficial.

Most hacks run off packet sniffing anyways. IE a person is able to identify what registers as an opponent according to the packet and move accordingly in game.

And please do not use punkbuster, it causes WAY more problems then solves, a good idea very poorly implemented.
