Went down to medium and suddenly it's way easier to see enemies particularly in darkness. On high, I have to use HS/NV to really function in many situations. I don't know why the settings are like this but so far it's a choice between ugly and effective for me. The difference is very noticeable and I can tell I perform significantly better on medium where enemies aren't as clouded by various effects. It's almost like playing Battlefield: Bad Company 2 except with a cheat to see through all the dust and smoke. I feel like the discrepancy is...I can't say unfair since anyone can turn settings down, but disappointing. I'd like to have a better looking game without having to reduce my effectiveness in combat.
it's the same as pretty much every FPS in that aspect... it's why a lot of players play PVP games on low graphics settings and/or in 800x600 despite having monster gaming rigs... less screen clutter, easier visibility, larger targets, better FPS... functionally it's better but aesthetically it's crap... and if you remove all those things that make the higher setting impair your visibility than you are basically just making it a lower setting that said you do have the option to turn on and off various effects as well as adjusting the over all graphics level the same as everyone else ( a lot of who need it to be able to play at all because of low end systems) so you can't really complain about it
On ultra settings with PhysX turned on, this game is absolutely gorgeous. Unfortunately, there's also the fact that you can't see ****. Poverty settings it is.
Well the first thing all hardcore gamers do after installing a new game is turn all settings to low. It's like a rule of thumb.
i dont know why people think its looks good to be blind - imo the game looks better the clearer it is it has nothing to do with being competitive or a hardcore gamer (im super casual) for me - i just dont like the look of that stuff all the fog and bloom and glare makes the game look horrible to me even in single player games i reduce all that stuff because i think it just looks crap
anything below high graphics quality cuts into your IRNV/Thermal range and makes cloaked infiltrators harder to see
Yep, in very low is still more easy to spot enemies at night. The infiltrators are also very easy to find while their "invisible", they are gray . The ESF termal optics draw the things with a yellow very bright.
which is funny since it was the opposite a few months ago... tho honestly all the extra effects and crap on the screen that comes along with high settings kind of negates a lot of the benefit of the more visible cloakers unless you are standing on top of them I've just settled to keeping it on medium but with things like the textures and whatnot turned to max... still looks nice clear and crisp but is missing most of the extra effects I find annoying no they changed that
Had a few days of playing at high settings after PU1. Realised that the all the explosions around me, the smoke and the dust were just cluttering up what was happening on screen. Went back down to medium again. Much better. Plus thermals are better on medium settings.
I still don't understand why they refuse to give us common setting such as disabling DOF, Bloom and Glare which are available on pretty much every pc game out there. Instead of having these we have to set everything down to get rid of these effects.
The bloom and glare on Esamir is terrible, you can't even use the IRNV scope on there as it just goes washed out white, i find myself staying away from esamir if possible now as it's just annoying.
