*After much construction by Thomson's engineers and contactors, Waterson pays a visit to his new strongholds*

Waterson: Thomson, come here at once!

Engineer Thomson: Whats the problem sir?

    Waterson: What is this?

    Engineer Thomson: A door, sir.

Waterson: And what is this jiggly thing?

Engineer Thomson: A manual override in case the automatic IFF on the door ever fails. Its commonly known as a handle.

    Waterson: Remove it immediately!

    Engineer Thomson: The handle, sir?

Waterson: No! The entire contraption! All I see here is something blocking my TMG-50 from shooting the rebel vanguards!

Engineer Thomson: Sir, having IFF doors is----

Waterson: I didn't ask for an opinion, make it happen soldier!

    Engineer Thomson: And a TMG-50 wouldn't even---

    Waterson: *glares at Thomson*

    .......

Waterson: If we have doors stopping people from entering our base, how are we supposed to shoot them in the base?

Engineer Thomson: Alright, we'll have them removed, but I'm seriously doubting your military prowess.

Waterson: Make it happen. Oh, and while you're at it, disable the one-way shields on all the windows. I want bullets flying out of and INTO this building! That will be awesome!

Camp Pendleton was established in 1942, so either Japan or Russia would be the most likely assailants depending on the decade.

Bases in Iraq/Afghanistan can actually be effectively fortified because there warfare is asymmetric in nature; the rebels there don't have the heavy artillery or aircraft necessary to conduct modern warfare. If it was symmetrical warfare, that the Taliban/ISIS were flying around in F-35s, then yes fortifying our bases there would be futile.

By all accounts the fortified Korean border is pretty much a giant killzone for DPRK artillery. It's a great example of why fortifications are indeed useless. Only good thing about the border that might actually help are the minefields. But if South Korea chooses to just have their soldiers sit in border bases that the North Koreans have known about for years and probably have artillery already zeroed, that's just insanity.

That's a reasonable point. Not only do bases need to be made destructible, there also needs to be far more empty space in between bases for battles to happen.

It is like this; an unfair fight, lopsided battles where one side bumrushes the other side that has no chance of winning.

In BC2 the bases were typically completely flattened by the end of the match.
