Planetside 2 isn't going to die!

    Stop whining about it!

This game came out in November, a time where TONS of games for other games come out for various systems. PEOPLE ARE PLAYING OTHER GAMES TOO

Late November/December is the time people start studying for their finals or doing their final projects. PEOPLE HAVE SCHOOL WORK.

It's also the holidays. PEOPLE HAVE FAMILY.

Every time I get on (except for maybe the mornings) there are tons and tons of people playing. A fight is never far away.

The timing wasn't the best, but for crying out **** stop going on about the death of PS2! Worst case scenario, SOE merges some of the low-population servers.

I sign under every word. This is ridiculous, way too many people are trying to make a big story out of nothing.
    -------
Also, low populated servers should be merged. Planetside 2 is not WoW, we are not dependent on having too many people killing mobs and not getting enough loot because of that.
  3. Mietz

Actually its reversed to WoW, the players are the XP pinatas and we need more of them.

Low pop servers need merges, ASAP, i'm running out of targets to shoot at.

As of right how, Helios is 48% VS.

...yeah, I had to study anyways.
  5. Spectre63

Sheesh, StormHawk...using all that sense is going to lead you to trouble someday! ;)

People have been predicting the early death of MMOs for years...I can virtually guarantee that SOE and the Dev team didn't put all this work into the game for it to die in 2 months. Relax and enjoy blasting some bad guys :D

It's normal these days for every new game to have doomsday people proclaiming the game is dying every time there is a slight drop off in population or because there is a graphical glitch that hasn't been fixed in a whole 2 hours! Don't worry, they are never right.
  7. Vashyo

Problem is the low population on servers, this game requires lot more people to have a full server than your average BF3 server. The game isn't really dying, but the lower population is kinda feeding the dying process because people play a bit, feel like there's no one around = quit and go do something else.

if there's 1000 enemies in the server you're likely to encounter enemies twice as often than when there's only 500.

I remember pretty much the same discussion 1 month after TOR came out.

    Look what happened to it.
  9. ANGER MANAGMENT BEAR

Yeah guys. After the holidays, I(like most others) will stop going to school and forget I have a family so population will most assuredly go back up and there is no reason to consider server merges right now!!!

The difference here is PS2 devs are still working on the game. They didn't say "It's Done" like TOR did. To this day they have not added a single thing that would bring anyone back to the game.

PS2 has a stated goal of 5+ years of content updates. They have what, 100+ devs that all they do, all day long, is work on squashing bugs, improving gameplay, and creating new content.

I have no fear that this game is going away. I fully expect to be playing it for a very long time. And even if i do decide to play a different game for a while, it will always be here.

I just wish i could get more of my friends to try the dang game! It's Free!

One thing to remember - people come to the forums to complain and vent. I used to play WoW, and the forums there were the same. Every day for years there was a new thread declaring that WoW was dead, dying, not fun anymore, broken, unbalanced, favored one faction, favored one class, didn't deliver on promised ponies, etc.

For an mmo one month out of beta, ps2 has had an amazingly smooth launch. There are issues that need fixing, but the game isn't going to die. I'd bet money that we'll be reading complaints and proclaimations of imminent doom on these forums years from now.

Is that really the excuse? "Oh its the holidays", WTH are the fanbois talking about? That's prime game playing time. If they're not playing PS2, they're still playing WoW, or Minecraft, or other games. Whether its a holiday or not, or its a school night or college exams or not, a game's success will be measured by whether players are playing it or not.

I'm playing PS2 a lot lately because I am on holidays... duh... One cannot deny a huge population decrease after the initial opening of the game, which means something is up. I've told 5 of my friends to try it out (regardless of its shortcomings, because it has potential), but I guess they gave it a pass for one reason or another...

BECAUSE THEY ARE NO LONGER LOGGING IN TO PLAY IT AFTER ONLY A COUPLE PLAY SESSIONS.
  13. Metalsheep

If you think pops are low now, just wait a few months for CoD/Battlefield 2013 to come out.

I'll bet money that pops will tank even worse.
  14. FidoMushu

Serious!? People are worried that PlanetSide 2 is going to die when the end of the world is tomorrow?
  15. Cl1mh4224rd

Didn't you know? You get a million dollars if you correctly predict the demise of a videogame to within a week. At least that's the only explanation I have for why anyone would feel the need to share that sort of opinion with anyone.
  16. Brok9000

    That was funny.
    ----------------------------------
As to the OP, demise is clearly too strong. But PS2 is not anywhere close to expectations, given how great and enjoyed PS1 was. There is clearly a steep decline in player numbers on some servers. This double XP week over a holiday should bolster those numbers but the reasons people are not staying to play regularly will remain. The reasons for this are simple and have been explained over and over again on the forums. Yes, sometimes with rants/complaints but also with clear concise explanations from players with years of FPS game play experience. That is the problem, it is not 'kiddies' just ranting. It is vets who normally would be leading squads and outfits talking about how their is no meta-game and other issues, none of which involve trivial things like what guns are best/worst (which can be sorted out). It is about game play. And these vets see no reason to spend the effort to stay on and lead with such poor overall meta-level game play. That is the problem.

[edit: before the vets staying flood in telling me, I don't mean you. But not enough are staying in a game that was supposed to be about larger scale STRATEGIC AND TACTICAL combat than a BF3, etc.. The devs clearly forgot why you make a shooter that can support huge battles ]
