Planetside 2 is missing some "Visual" game mechanics

    1) Landscapes/The ground should have craters/dips where explosions happend(you could crouch in them depending on the size/ammount of explosions in that area)

    2) Tank and aircraft wreckage shouldn't disapear, it should be a destroyable cover instead.

    2) For Such a "Advanced" Game Engine they can't for some reason have pilots be shown and killable in the cockpit of Aircraft??????

There's also a couple other things but I'm sure after more content and optimizing makes it in they'll think about visuals again. There are small things like on Esamir, tanks won't make snow tracks and they kick up dust rather than little globs of snow. Wheels don't sink into the snow at all, etc. But these aren't priorities of course.
  3. Angry Scientist

Those aren't in for the sake of optimization. Can you imagine how many things it'd have to track? How long would those craters last?

It works on Battlefield because there's a limited field. There's just too many things to track for it to be realistic at this point.

Tank tracks in general need to show up in the enviroments i agree
  5. Scr1nRusher

The Craters would have a timed life span, the bigger the explosion the longer it lasts.

Not to mention, dust be kicked up on Esamir by vehicles?
  7. Scr1nRusher

    Dust? you mean snow lol

I hope these servers have 1K cooling systems and use FTL tro deliver those data packets.

The sitting in cockpit thing shouldn't be hard to do, actually. Even if there were a technical reason to exclude it, a super vulnerable point on the cockit area wouldn't be impossible to implement. It just wasn't a priority point. I don't think it is either tbh.
  9. TheBloodEagle

    Looks like dust, not snow.

While all these things would be sweet, I don't think you are aware of the fps issues people have. Adding stuff like this is not gonna help that at all.

They may add something similar to these things someday, but don't expect it anytime soon.

The only thing I agree on is that pilots should be visible in the cockpit. The rest is either redundant or not feasible in this game.
  12. Cab00se187

    No, it kicks up dust
  13. Entomorph

I can see it now.. Thousands of posts on the forums with people crying about the craters vanishing with them still inside.

Also, why is the vehicle wreckage instantly black? It should retain its paint job...there's no reasonable explanation why all the color detail just evaporates in an impact or explosion, and also not fall apart into 4 pieces until/if it lands particularly hard upon crashing.
  15. TheBloodEagle

Again, I know someone will come along and say "fix the bugs, etc first", and we all agree on that. But as time goes on and hardware improves as well, I think we'd all like for the little details for immersion to be improved.
  16. MiZrY

I would think it would affect performance of people within render distance. Like I said before it would be sweet to have all this stuff, I just highly doubt this game in it's current state can handle these types of things without some serious downside.
  17. Cab00se187

With the bazillion threads about performance issues you should ask yourself why you even posted this
  18. AbortedMan

Loading and caching a new blackened "wrecked" texture and spawning 3 more physical models as it does now takes more resources than just imitating the plausibility of an intact aircraft going down with it's current paint job still rendering.
  19. FateJH

Listen, we can only have one armchair senior software developer in this thread.
  20. MiZrY

Having an aircraft just drop to the ground and have no damage to it's model and just have charred texture would be pretty damn lame. Anytime you change an objects appearance you have to load a new object. If you just changed the texture it would look silly and you still need to load the textures.
