CONTROL ROOMTo further expand on immersion it would be cool if there was some kind of control room or command center at each base which acts basically like the map but in 3D realtime. If the SCU and the generators are still up and running and your faction controls the territory then all of the cool stuff inside of the control room will function. In fact, this might make it crucial for enemies to try and destroy the generators because the control room either has cameras (really cool) or some form of radar which reveals enemy positions. At certain bases these command centers can be used to launch orbital strikes against your enemies!
Where in hell would we even put these. Most facilities are either a power plant, Biological facility for food production etc, or Manufacturing complex. Only the Warpgates even could hold a Command Center, but even then; They are just transport systems. Radar: Infils. Aircraft with scout radar... But having a Local Radar System that could be hacked, would be nice; A tactical objective, rather than a capture-based. Orbital Strikes are incredibly deadly.. Making it hard to actually have sunderers, since it fires down from the sky. If it has long enough range, makes large groups impractical; If too short, then it's more likely than not going to fire on the Capture points only to nuke any attack.
I would say in the Warpgate...and give it a use as Warp-terminal.....so you go to the big fat globe to change continents
That was pretty much the benefit of controlling an Interlink Facility in original PlanetSide. It gave local radar to all other facilities (as well as itself, of course) that were connected to it by the lattice.
It's a cool Idea to have something like this as a communal hub. Each faction could have a Mother ship in orbit that could have NPC's you hear over the radio directing the battlefield from. You could even climb in to a drop pod to get instant actioned to a base.
I miss how PS1 bases felt like bases. Spawn rooms with terminals and lockers. Barracks rooms with tables/chairs/beds. Storage rooms with crates. Generator room with a generator that was actually killable. Control room that felt like a control room. I also miss objectives that could be performed by small units (hacking a CC to lock out terminals and unlock doors, blowing a gen to stop spawn, etc).
