I just thought I would share a small experience with the community in case anyone else had this issue since i spent a good amount of time troubleshooting it and only found 1 thread for a different game (natural selection), 2 years ago that answered my prayers. To elaborate the problem occurred when clicking play, the screen would go black, and then close with no error message. Every where you look for fixes to this particular issue the answer is always the same, disable anti-virus or add exceptions and run as admin. This did not work for me, however what did work was disabling a program that provided a small overlay of my framerate and gpu temp. DISABLE ALL PROGRAMS WHICH PROVIDE AN IN-GAME OVERLAY! Including gpu tweakers, mumble etc. (steam seems to be fine) p.s. these overlays can break other games as well. I hope this helps someone!
