Planetside 2 Cover vs Planetside 1 Cover...One of the reasons it sucks to be Infantry

  1. DuckSauce

It takes about fifteen minutes to run from one end of Indar to the other. My outfit's done a few Great MAX Migrations. :D
  2. Rustler

Ishundar has some cover specially near bases where it was needed.

Care to guess average FPS if this was PS2?
  4. Rustler

Well battles will be more open because their is more cover, meaning it wouldn't be the same o stalemates that happen in one place like it is now with hundreds of players.....which decreases performance.

So the average FPS will be better IMO.
  5. DeltaGun

I would love to fight in a forest like this. Channeling Endor.
  6. disky00

I don't know if you'll see Endor for a while, but Hossin is looking a lot like Dagobah. When Clegg was on FNO, he was talking about the tree canopy and how it's going to work. Evidently it's going to be so dense that it will be difficult for aircraft to see ground units. Very exciting.

The correct answer was significantly lower.

I already made this point in another one of these threads and people went mental at me, don't care. Its true. More complex geometry on a map and having to render foliage = lower FPS.

Also, the whole 'there will be less players, as less stalemate'. wut? If you have more cover battles will go on for longer, is that kinda a point. So open air biolab situation.

Hell did you even play arma2.

Get more than 40fps in scenes like that. I DARE YOU.

Now add 40-80 player models into that situation and the CPU load to keep track of them all, and the bullets they are firing.

It be nice if we could have 50km render distance, giant sprawling forests and giant crab boss enemies.

however, certain realistic engine limits apply.

Sure if they also bring back the reload speed and explosive range for the VPC too, or did that happen so long ago you forgot about it.

    Totally disagree.
The goal off this game is to capture continents and be victorious by holding them as well.
To do that there are two key things in the game: Mobility (transport)/Capping regions.
    All the rest is insignificant.
In the open its advised for everyone to have transport, but to prevent that transport from region a facility defenders need a clear shot as well.
If you want to run and gun from cover to cover ps2 aint your game.
Vehicles are only used for transportation and once they arrive at a facility there's plenty off cover for infantry to deal whit vehicles.
There's absolultly no reason to waste time between facilities by running from facility to facility on foot.
What happens is you create giant tank battles whit infantry support. Which is a welcome feature between the majority off the action.
Keeping the goal off the game in mind, you'll realize the majority off the action happens in bases, which is how it should be.
In bases there are only a couple off spots where you should locate yourself, which is cap points, spawn, generator, scu and the area's leading to those area's.
All off the previous mentioned points off intrest have plenty off buildings/cover for you to fight at.
The only thing what more cover in the land would do is make transportation/mobilization harder and be even more cpu/gpu demanding.

    NO TY

    Your playing the game wrong

Not sure what the first screenshot is meant to prove as infantry can easily decimate those tanks up in Northern Indar. The wide open desert actually works against them as it is covered in enough small hills and rocks for HA's with lock-ons to just make those MBTs lives a living nightmare.

And I always see people asking for the developers to create an infantry-centric continent. Well, they did. Its called Amerish. And nobody goes there. Aircraft can have some success, but all those large trees provide some pretty good cover against NV optic farming and the mountainous terrain is just an absolute nightmare for ground vehicles. Even the non-mountainous areas are covered with so many bumps and giant tree trunks its tough for vehicles to fight effectively. And to get from one hex to the next often requires driving up long 1-lane winding roads of death.

In a magrider, infantry is easier to deal with when there's cover. Since the main gun is so low, hitting the ground at the exact point is difficult (was easier before, when you could climb hills) and , and in areas of low cover infantry tend to spread out so you have to kill them one by one. If there's cover, you can hit the wall behind the cluster of infantry trying to hide and deal easy splash damage.

Did you know that in Planetside 1 most battles started far away from bases because having attackers on your front doorstep was generally regarded as a very bad thing. Y'see bases depended on supply lines rather than each one being their own self sufficient little nation, hence why you'd try to crush zergs away from the base so as not to tax your base's reserves.

Now who is more right, the people who want to play the game like they did it's prequel (bare in mind prior to the game going beta SoE directly courted all us PS1 vets and even gave us a month of free time to get us all hyped up and in the mood) or the little plebs who want to play it like Call of Battlefield 4?
  13. Crashsplash

I agree with this. Tanks should dominate in open areas. But this is not the point the OP is making, he is saying therre are too many open areas and not enough trees/woods that provide cover.

I can recall the fights in such areas in PS1 and they were interesting and fun.

The result of not enough cover areas is that tanks utterly dominate and the devs then have to try to find a balance in other ways, without the trees. They seem to be doing this by nerfing the tanks weaponry and buffing infantry weapons such as the AT Turret and the soon to be introduced ES rockets.

The problem with the balance between tanks and infantry is in the environmental design I doubt the devs will change it and therefore they're doomed to attempt fixes by sticking plaster which don't really work.

Well that's extra what you describing cod players, bf players.
They don't need to think about tactic mobilization and manouvering either....
  15. netsky4life

Suppose they add more cover will it change the gameplay?
The cover would have no cap points nearby, so what's the purpose off beeing there?
    none.....
Its just a waste off time, a battle in the open which leads to nothing for both parties.....
    To zergy for me
  16. Loui5D

Get off indar and go play on amerish, pesky LA's hiding in the tree's ******* up the convergence on the skill cannon.
  17. SenEvason

The new continent is supposed to be dense forest, to where most vehicles won't be able to drive through, and aircraft can't see you.
  18. Bill Hicks

Good thing vehicles cant spam into buildings for days.......
  19. Bill Hicks

Cover would prevent 4th faction kiddies with moms credit card from getting sweet kills they can tweet their friends in detention.
  20. BlueSkies

You've obviously never watched the Matherson TR footzerg base to base
