Phoenix

Although I don't agree with the guy, I also don't agree with using user stats to prove stuff. It is possible to get a good opinion about stuff without ever using it, although most people will receive big biases. This guy has one, but even so his frustration is legitimate, regardless if he's wrong about the weapon.
  2. Rydenan

On the contrary, I think it's absolutely imperative to have actually used a weapon before one can cry foul about it being imbalanced. Perhaps he's just been unfortunate and run into skilled players using the Phoenix? Perhaps he only notices phoenix rockets because those are the ones he's subconsciously looking for? We don't know.
This has nothing to do with 'stat shaming' or anything like that; I merely think the OP would see things a lot differently if he realized just how difficult it is to actually score kills with the Phoenix. And the only way to get that experience is by trying it.
  3. AISkander

Take 5-4 people, into a spawnroom and watch how every goddamn sundy just explodes. That's the phoenix right now. ******* annoying
  4. Rydenan

Right, because 4-5 LAs with C4 and RRs can't quickly take out sunderers. Or 4-5 players in Lightnings.
IMO, sunderers are too squishy, but that's a completely separate issue.
Also, it's pretty easy to park a sunderer where it can't be hit from the spawnroom, thanks to Phoenix's super-lazy turning radius. If you'd ever used it, you would know this.
  5. AISkander

You can kill 5 lightnings, as 5 LA. You can't kill phoenix spawn room spammers

Even with the "lazy turning" a deployed sunderer i don't know if you ever saw one. It's still
  6. Rydenan

The rockets fly as slowly as an LA, can be shot down with fewer bullets, and cannot shoot back.

    Wat.
  7. AISkander

Are you saying that shooting down a Phoenix missle is as shooting down a goddamn light assualt? Are you that desperate to defend a Bugged out weapon?
  8. Rydenan

Yes, I am, because it is. Do you even play the game? A single Kobalt on a sunderer with an attentive gunner basically makes it completely immune to Phoenixes.

I hardly ever use the Phoenix, because it's lackluster even with the reload bug. So I have no inherent motivation to defend it. I only weighed in here because your arguments are bad.
  9. AISkander

I don't know if laugh or cry at that statement
  10. boey

Do you even play the game? When your sundy is deployed behind a rock, you have absolutely no chance to gun down the incoming phoenix missiles, which just go around the corner. Not even the best gunner in the world could manage this, because you simply have absolutely zero time to react. You hear the missile, it comes around the corner and BOOM -> hit. No Chance at all.
  11. Rydenan

Then you parked in a terrible spot. Kinda like parking where Prowlers can shoot your bus over the hillside without exposing themselves. Don't.

A terrible spot, which would be a very good spot for the NC. VS and TR can NOT park and deploy sunderers where NC can safely deploy sunderers. That's where the fun ends.
  13. Rydenan

You mean just like you can't deploy with LoS to any distant ledges when facing VS, because of the Lancer?
Or you can't park where Pounder Maxes can lob their grenades over the terrain to hit your bus when facing TR?
    Welcome to asymmetric game design.
  14. AISkander

Probably you don't know it, but lancers and Maxes can be killed. Spawning room phoenix spammers can't
  15. boey

Don't worry about the Lancer, nearly noone is using it anymore. Ever heard of the NS-Archer? Or shall i say NS-Lancer. Show me those pounder Maxes shooting their grenades over a rock at a deployed sunderer with no LOS, standing 50-100 meters away from the base.
That has nothing to do with asymmetric game design, because you are NOT able to do something against someone standing and laughing in a secure spawnroom and shooting his guided missiles.
  16. Rydenan

Their rockets can be killed if you take more than 2 seconds to think about placing/defending your sunderer.
The point is that, in an asymmetric game, you have to take different approaches to combating different factions.
Unless you people are the kind who wish every single weapon were NS common pool, and every faction identical.
  17. Rydenan

As I already mentioned, yes, you are able to do something about it. You just choose not to.

And the Lancer has the highest avg. Vehicle KPH of all the ES launchers, by the way.
    Striker: 11.4
    Phoenix: 12.7
    Lancer: 13.1

The only thing you can do about it, is 4th faction to NC and start teamkilling. That's the only effective way.
Where did you get those numbers? If they are from Oracle of Death they are very very old and definitely not representative anymore.
  19. Campagne

In my opinion, it's a bit of both worlds here.

Some weapons, equipment, and vehicles do require some personal use to fully understand, such as the Phoenix. However, there are many other pieces of equipment that one can just look at on paper and understand it completely. For example, one can look at the auto-shotguns and see they are the most powerful shotguns outside of perfect accuracy pump-actions. This is true in both practice and theory.

Personal experience with a weapon is always helpful though.

The rockets can't be killed. They go to a straight line when hit
