    Edit: All AMD users are welcomed to post their settings and performance here. Could any moderator change "Phenom II users" to "AMD users" and move post to technical support ?

    Since AMD processors have bigger problems with this game than Intel processors, and I (as a Phenom II user) experience many issues after new update, let's try to use our energy and help game devs to do work on optimization and fixing FPS issues.

    In order to do that, please use template at the bottom, to give as many informations about Your system, performance, problems as You can, along with "render" section of Your .ini. If You don't know what specific setting is, or You didn't change it - just leave it empty. I don't have access to my .ini now, but guess I remember it mostly.

    PERFORMANCE:

    Performance before patch: Warpgate: 55-65, GPU limited, crown heavy battle: 40-45, Amp Station battle: 35-45, tank: 40-45. When not in Warpgate - almost always CPU limited. After 20-40 minutes of gameplay (or changing teritory for a time or two) FPS degradation by 10-20%

    - FPS drops when rotating screen
    - FPS degradation over time

    Performance after patch: Warpgate: 50-65, GPU, sometimes CPU limited (many players). Amp Station and Crown: FPS lower by ~20% than before, after 20-40 minutes it degrades further up to 20-25 in Crown (didn't try Amp Station, could be worse). Tank: 35-40, after FPS degradation 15-25 (barely playable)

    - FPS drops when rotating screen (seem to be bigger now)
    - FPS degradation over time
    - FPS lags - regular drops to ~5FPS, most often near Crown

    Looks like your overclocking helps your fps quite a bit since i have same cpu but not OC'd. AMD cpu real power is in multi-threading and having a looking at core usage since last patch it has gone down. Seriously how long has multi cores been out and multithreding still abysmal?
  3. dr_Fell

    What RAM and motherboard socket do You have ? I am interested, because I am wondering, if changing RAM or motherboard (HT speed) will change my FPS significantly. Theoretically it shouldn't, because DDR2 800 with my timings shoud not limit my CPU and for most cases this is true. But for PS2 - who knows...

    thank You for Your answers.

    Could You write, if You are CPU or GPU limited? You have lower FPS than me, despite having higher cpu OC and better HT link... Probably Your memory performs a bit better too.

    It is good to know that my HT link speed isn't limiting factor here, so motherboard change isn't necessary. On the other those good news are bad news. If SOE won't manage to do something with performance, there will be probably no smooth gameplay on Phenoms II.

    The post-launch FPS issues are not related to AMD/ATI for a change so this thread seems rather pointless. Check out the existing ones, Intel/nVidia users have the exact same issues.

    While there are problems in general, PS2 is not the only game in heavy favor of intel based systems. Blame AMD... nothing worth your money anymore since the first Athlon CPUs.
  10. orthus2

    it prior to the patch it would shift between gpu and cpu limited, now prior to the hot fix it would sit on cpu limited(but i did some optmizing of my oc) and tested it real quick and the values now are 40-50 in warpgate - gpu limited, flying around northern indar 50-60 gpu limited, haven't had a big battle yet to see the results there.
  11. Smaisteri

    AMD Phenom II X6 1100T 3,5GHz

    Before the patch:

    - Warpgate: 60-80 FPS.
    - Large Battle: 20-35 FPS.
    - FPS degradation over time.

    After the patch:

    - Warpgate 60-80 FPS.
    - Large Battle: 20-35 FPS.
    - FPS degradation over time.
    - Slight stutters when rotating the screen.
    - Sometimes large clusters of FPS drops that can last for minutes. They start without a reason and stop without any reason.
    - Random game crashes. The game stops working for 2 seconds, continues to work properly and crashes after 10 seconds.

    Running on Low settings and Im always CPU limited.

    PERFORMANCE:

    Performance before patch: I have fps capped at 60
    55 - 60 at the warpgate, would constantly flip between CPU and GPU capped
    stuck at 60 when far away alone, flips CPU and GPU
    40 - 55 in medium fights, CPU cap
    25 - 40 in huge fights, CPU cap

    Performance after patch:
    40 - 55 at the warpgate, CPU capped
    50 - 60 when far away alone, flips CPU and GPU
    20 - 30 in medium fights, CPU cap
    10 - 20 in huge fights, CPU cap

    Notes:
    Effects quality and ParticleLOD has helped me a bunch against burster MAX fps drop. I used to have them at 4 before the patch.
    Also, before the patch i overclocked the CPU/NB frequency by a little and noticed a great improvement in game. Might have been placebo though! I havent tested further yet, since the patch hit and kind of messed up performance further.

    This thread is not only about fixing the latest patch bugs but also to help SOE further develop PS2 performance in general. If You had read 1st post before judging what is pointless and what is not, You would have known that.
    The second reason for this thread is to share experiences amongst Phenom users - to help make optimizations, improve performance a bit.

    And AMD cpus are definitly worth money they cost. They are cheaper and usually their motherboards are cheaper than Intel based system. They just have core to core performance worse than Intel. That's all. For most apps they are fine, and I am using mu desktop not only for gaming and not only for PS2.
    And IF PS2 scaled well with multicore CPU's it would perform well on AMD cpus too.
  14. Cinnamon

    Can't sony afford to buy a computer with an AMD processor?
    • Up x 1
  15. dr_Fell

    Poor AMD performance in PS2 is caused b AMD single core performance being lower than new Intel CPUs. PS2 engine puts heavy load on single core. Things that should improve performance for us, AMD users, are make PS2 scale better with multicore processors and reduce load this app puts on 1st core.

    EDIT: so at least I know, that Phenom II performance doesn't depend heavily on RAM / mobo used. Strange thing is that Bulldozers (FX series) sometimes perform better, despite having a bit worse core to core performance.
  16. TeknoBug

    IPC (instructions per cycle), Intel has higher IPC speed than AMD does which is why they have an advantage in single-threaded applications and games, but AMD does better in multi-threaded apps and games. Battlefield 3 runs like a gem on an 8 core CPU over a 4 core CPU, but PS2 and GW2 and some older games runs exactly the same be it 2, 4, 6, 8 cores but the fewer cores the smoother.
  17. Carl 99

    Dumb question, how can you tell weather your CPU or GPU limited?
  18. dr_Fell

    Press Alt+F when in-game. In bottom left corner You will have Your FPS along with CPU or GPU - that indicates if CPU or GPU is limiting Your performance. FPS count also change its color - as far as I remember CPU limit is blue and GPU yellow, but I can't check it now.
  19. Carl 99

    Ahh cheers, wonered what the other numbers next to the FPS where :).
  20. ottomanhero

    roflmao, i totally agree with you
    Im using:
    AMD phenom II x4 920 2.8 ghz
    ATI radeon 4730 512 MB 900/3600 OC'd to 940/3800
    4 gb ddr2 @ 800 mhz
    7200 RPM 750 gb SATA HDD

    My ini : (everything is on low except texture and graphics on high)

    Code:
    [Display]
    FullscreenRefresh=0
    Maximized=0
    FullscreenWidth=1360
    FullscreenHeight=768
    WindowedWidth=1360
    WindowedHeight=718
    RenderQuality=1.000000

    FullscreenMode=Fullscreen

    [Rendering]

    TerrainQuality=0
    FloraQuality=0
    ModelQuality=0
    ParticleLOD=0
    MotionBlur=0
    AO=0
    VerticalFOV=74
    My fps : (im using razer game booster to increase avaliable memory, i also disabled windows prefetch etc. to gain a few mb of extra memory, i only get around 700 - 900 mb usage with all apps closed and game not launched.)

    Before the patch :
    Around 45 - 60 fps in warpgate (depends on number of ppl)
    Around 45 - 60 while flying (even if its crowded, it never got below 45)
    Around 25 - 40 in big battles in AMP - biolabs
    Around 35 - 50 in small battles in AMP - biolabs - small hexes
    I was usually CPU bound, but GPU when not many people around, i noticed number of ppl eats up a lot of CPU

    After the patch :
    Around 30 - 45 in warpgate
    Around 35 - 45 while flying (if i turn my screen too quickly, it reduces down to 20)
    Around 10 - 25 in big battles in AMP - biolabs
    Around 25 - 40 in small battles in small hexes
    Around 20 - 35 in small battles in AMP - biolas
    Im never GPU bound, im always CPU bound no matter what, even in small places with no fight, no ppl, no vehicles im always CPU bound.
    I also get more reduction in FPS while turning my screen, around 20 fps in warp gate, don't even ask about the change during fights.

    So these are the results SOE, Go to hell with your 4,4 gigs of horse****, you fcked my plans, been expecting this patch to upgrade my FPS, NOT screw it up.
