[Suggestion] People, stop calling those skilled players hackers w/out evidence

First of all, I did this before, and suddenly when sb started yelling at me "RT hackers xxxxxx (etc.)"; then I come to understand how you guys felt when being accused of cheating. (Apologies to Datablue, you're a good Reaver pilot.)

Here are several things that make me think a lot:
    (1)
While I was playing on Amerish and "sniping" NC infantry with my Engineer AV turret, I killed this guy (can't remember his ID, probably Thunderduck/buck - -? whatever) who was shooting his phoenix on the 3rd floor of a watchtower. I sniped him dead like for 5/6 times. Then he started yelling things about RTCN and cheating stuff whatsoever.
    (2)
Just an hour ago maybe, I killed this guy PepperSprayCop from outfit GOLD,and I'd like to make it simple as:

It took me a while to follow his logic ....and I was stupid enough to tell him what I was planning to do...... But due to his bad language and his "incredible" logic, I decided to post it out and have you guys discussing about it, if you'd like to.

What I'm thinking are as follows:
    (1) People who have been playing with me for a long time can easily tell that AV turret is my primary weapon and I've been using it whenever I got a chance. I consider it as the best weapon and it serves me well in providing lots of certs. I've been wanting to record a video teaching people how to use it effectively, and other tactics/strategies that come along. However, my plan has been suspended cuz I'm a noob (≧▽≦) in video stuff (Can you guys suggest me any good recording softwares.) ............back on topic, when I was playing my NC character, I reported many evident hackers/bug-exploiters, including some RTCN players. Later when I was browsing some Chinese PS2 forums, I came across many threads about RTCN kicking those "real" RT outfit members. Why would I say "Real"? - Players without an outfit prefix [RTCN] are either been kicked out or pretended RTCN player. Cuz when my TR character joint RTCN, leaders of the outfit repeatedly stressed that "cheating/bug-exploiting are strictly prohibited and once you violate the regulation, you'll get kicked and reported to SOE". And I've been enjoying my time playing with these fellows.

I agree. Often I think some guy is cheating but then later on when the rage was diminished I realise he or she was just better at the game. People should hold their tongues if they don't have solid evidence of cheating. Even if they are cheating, calling them out is not going to make them suddenly stop. Report the person and move on.

    Normal modern gamer behavior.

I'd wager that 9 out of 10 people accused of cheating/hacking were simply accused falsely by someone who is either narrow minded or jealous.

Somewhere along the road from the first Unreal Tournament and the early days of Team Fortress (1, mind you. Maybe also classic) we went from congratulating our betters for their great performance to "omagerd you naxxornub imma ban u".

I've seen it myself happen in chat (someone getting accused who is clearly good but no way in hell a cheater) and seen it happen to myself. (Getting accused of hacking after a 10 person killstreak with a handgun infiltrator during the bleak between losing shotguns and getting scout rifles)

Ignore those guys and move on.

And to quote a wise man: (My brother actually, after getting banned from yet another quake live server)
"There is no better compliment then to be falsely accused of cheating."

I wonder why it isn't allowed to say the names of the cheaters on the forums but you can insult the names of all the players...
I can understand why many people are angry about cheaters, but some people just call everyone a cheater who is better than they are.
I'm not sure what to say about bugusers / laggers, since the using people sometimes don't even know they're doing it. Not to mention users of noob weapons, though. At least the last one will be solved by SOE, eventually.

    (2) I met some players who'd always introduce political issues / personal prejudice into the game. I won't comment on these folks but I just want you to understand a simple truth: every country/region would have black sheep, and there's no such exception for country like US, JP or CN. They'd only represent themselves and they'll be fully responsible for their own actions. Why should other people be blamed for the immoralities of some individuals they've never heard of ?! So better behave yourself and watch you guys in-game language. Even though US is a country of freedom, when you harass other people verbally you are depriving other people's rights and you shall be responsible for your own actions.

To OP: Most of the time when i get killed too often, I mostly just question myself....maybe I'm just too poorly skilled....or that guy's just too damn good. For example, there was a time when I was in a MAX and I ended up having to flee/got killed by another enemy infantry, when it should have been the other way around. Seriously, I don't know what weapon he was using, but he took me out pretty darn fast....(although I have to admit that my MAX was an uncerted one....totally on stock mode.) Then there were other times when I see and get amazed by how well some people can pilot a scythe/reaver/mosquito and take stuff out so easily and skillfully whereas I just stunk. Most probably they spent a ton of time and certs into excelling in whatever they're doing I guess...

Anyway, the point is....there's always people better than ourselves...so the most impt thing is to have fun and forget about the dying part. ^^

BTW, not sure if it will help you, but....I would recommend using fraps to take videos of your gameplay and then use blender to cut and join pieces together. At least that's what I'm doing for my game blog...anyway its just an amateur blog where I upload videos of the games I play to my youtube channel.
  7. ViXeN

I agree. But look on the positive side, what they are actually saying is, "You are so good that the only way someone could do what you do is if they are using hacks!" That's why I love it when people accuse me of hacking all the time. ;O)
  8. DuckSauce

A lot of Connery TR hackers have had RT in their names, either because RTCN kicked them out or because they're trolling the outfit.

Mix that with a lot of frustration that comes with having to play against people with ridiculously high pings playing from the other side of the world and a little bit of latent racism and you're gonna have a bad time.
  9. NC_agent00kevin

Typically, when I get accused of cheating, I find it entertaining and to be a compliment. I certainly dont get mad about it.
  10. FleshIcon

I for one believe lots of people are cheating and my main reason for not playing as much now. In fact, Im looking into other games. I have never voiced my opinion on this issue before but this seems a good thread to do it.

Been playing first person games for 20 years and there are so many players that kill me in 1 second (headshots) with all range of weapons from all distances its insane. Either the gaming player base has increased in skill 1000% or players are cheating. Thats my opinion anyway.

Until Sony can prove to me that this game is 100% cheater free Im moving on very soon. 1 second fights are not fun.
  11. Sinist

This post is wrong and I will say why.

Thousands of Planetside 2 players have bought and paid for hacks for this game. ArtificalAiming the most popular cheat website has over 1000 registered users that have made posts in their PS2 forum.

Another popular cheating website has an even larger paid subscriber base for their cheats.

So we are talking THOUSANDS of PS2 players who are actively paying for a cheat subscription. These aren't the people who download free cheats and go out and aimbot everyone in sight. These are everyday players who pay a MONTHLY FEE to use cheats that don't get them caught. They discuss among themselves settings and profiles for their cheats that make them less obvious, discuss when GM's appear to be active, etc. Good chance they are playing the game everyday if they are spending money on cheats for it. So they are part of the ACTIVE PLAYERBASE.

If you suspect someone of cheating and have reasonable knowledge about the game, THEY ARE PROBABLY CHEATING.

Engineer turret hackers are common. There is a cheat that will allow the engineer turret to instant hit, in other words the projectile has zero travel time. It is coupled with an aimbot and what you get are perfect accuracy with the AV turret and you can instahit/instagib anyone in sight of you. These cheats can be tuned without the projectile speed hack and used with just an aimbot etc to give varying degrees of obviousness and effectiveness.

To anyone that has ever used an engineer turret, they are not the easiest to use at long ranges against infantry, especially if targets are moving. And these turrets are double hard to use against targets that are moving at a perpendicular angle to you. Especially a perpendicular angle that also has them moving slightly away or towards you. Its just hard to compensate for and know exactly where your rocket is in space related to them.

There are TONS of people using hacks for the AV turret. Wether SuperMingHAHA is one of them, I don't know. Good chance if you use the AV Turret exclusively and are able to wrack up a ton of kills with it, I would be suspect of you.

Telling people to not "accusate" against players they feel cheat is bad advice. What we need is for people to report the players they feel cheat, take recordings, explain in support tickets to the GM's, the people they suspect. We don't need people second guessing themselves about what their gut's tell them.

There is a balance of being mad and accusing someone, and taking the time to observe what you feel is cheating and compare it to what is "reasonable". There are tons of good players on Twitch who stream everyday that you could compare to.

There are a METRIC CRAP TON of cheats in this game, and they are trying to NOT get caught. REMEMBER THAT.

Don't accuse everyone at first, but if over time you still feel like they are using downloaded skills, REPORT THEM!

Why ever feel insulted when called a cheater? It's the greatest compliment.
  13. Laraso

I nearly got reported for hacking once. I was using Drifter Jets (gasp!), and flew off the tip of the Crown towards a Scythe. It just sat there staring at me, so I flew over it and C4ed it. That pilot then proceeded to tell me all about how I'm a worthless hacker and how he's going to report me. If it wasn't for a few other people who were nice enough to help me explain what Drifter Jets are, he probably would have.

I guess all that story really goes to show is how underused Drifter Jets are, though.

I never pay attention to hack claims, I know 99% of the time it's not true and just a moron or unskilled player complaining in the form of crying hacks. I have never personally had any experience with a hacker, or if I did I re-spawned immediately without even knowing it and continued the fight with no negative effect. Effective hackers that have any kind of noteworthy impact are often known and knowledge of them tends to spread pretty quickly. A good example would be the hacker the other day on Mattherson, that was a serious hack and everyone immediately knew about it. Everything else is either small time or simply not true. They are definitely not something I care about or worry about in the least.

Then where are all of these hackers? I haven't seen them. I have seen less than a dozen people that I suspected were actually hacking the entire time I have played this game. If this game has as many people hacking as you claim then I hate to tell these guys but your hacks are awful. You need to find better ones. LOL I've seen plenty of hackers on other games and they go like 200-1 in a typical game.

I've been accused of hacking on every game I have played, including PS2 now. And guess what? I have never been banned from a single game because I'm not actually hacking. So saying that if you suspect someone is hacking then they probably are is just silly.

    EDIT:

Also people are saying you shouldn't make public accusations about hacks because it makes you look bad. If you think they hack then just be quiet and report them. Unless its me, then feel free to publicly accuse me because I enjoy it. ;O)

I'm usually very reserved when reporting players. I generally look at the players stats and judge from there and bookmark it so i can look back at it later and see if any reporting needs to be done.

Question, are you pulling these facts out of thin air or do you frequent hack sites. Should we be worried about how knowledgeable you are in this area? What I mean is if we are to believe what your saying it is pretty suspicious that you have this much information about the inner workings of these sites. assuming your information is accurate you have obviously been on their forums enough to know that there are 1000 registered users and also have an detailed knowledge of not only what hacks are available but which are the most popular.

So I ask you should be be reporting you to SOE?
  19. Sinist

You have played 6 days total playtime in 6 months. That is a little over 100 hours. So for every 8 hours played you have encountered a hacker.

That is a very high amount.

I play on Waterson, and have NEVER seen you that I am aware of. I have over 50 days of playtime which is the third highest playtime on the server. I have lost count of how many BLATANT hackers I have seen, nevermind one's that try to hide it.

I would take your opinion about as much as I would take a BR1's opinion of what they feel the state of hacking is in PS2 on Waterson.

Just like I would take your opinion about what "caliber" of players who play PS2 are. You seem to think we are all noob's, and now you think hacking is an overblown myth.

You must not have played the first few months of the game. It was INTOLERABLE. And everyday the forums was FULL of threads about how hackers are running rampant. Now the threads are just deleted.

So people who barely play the game (Casuals) like you, don't know about it unless you become the victim. Which in your own words, has happened a dozen times.

    Which you find acceptable?

I do read the hacking websites. Both private and public sections. I am not paid members of these websites myself but do know people who are. Play as much as I do and you know who they are , and most of them will friend and play with someone with yoloswag in their name (just an example im not saying I have an alt with a yoloswag name) ;).

And I do take screenshots of threads I feel could possibly identify people and send them to SOE.

You can report me if you want but I don't think it will do you much good :)

Noone has done more to report hackers on Waterson then me. TRUST that.

I haven't been wrong yet. Even if SOE unbans them anyways. /facepalm
