Patch gives "Higher FPS", but more lag?

    With the patch I noticed " higher frames" overall based on what the counter at the bottom left says. However I notice that movement/aim is much more sluggish and delayed than before. For example before the patch at 30fps in the biolab, it was still very much playable, but after the patch even with 35-40 in the biolab it is much more sluggish/delayed. almost seems like the fps counter is lying or innacurate.

    TLDR; shows higher frames, but feels like less.

    Anyone else notice this? :(

    anyone else notice this? aiming with 40fps post patch feels as unresponsive as it did with 15-20fps pre-patch.. :(

    Probably isn't the case but make sure you still have reduce input lag checked, it'll do that.

    Yeah I get that too, the way I differentiate lag from stutter is lag occurs when youre driving or flying and the game suddenly pauses for a moment, usually no more than a split-second, and then resumes whereas stutter occurs when your FOV (field of view) changes, say you are turning in an aircraft etc. or doing a relatively quick 180 on foot.

    Ok well the way ive used and heard stutter described is more like miniature "freezes" or stops. Lag can be network based (internet packets, ping etc) and that is what you described when flying. Then there is hardware/software performance based lag which is a slowdown usually experienced with low fps (30 and below usually, but varies from game to game).

    Let me be clear that the kind of lag im getting is more of the latter. it is like moving in slow motion.

    and where previously I wouldnt experience it very strongly until 25 or below fps in this game and around 30 in others, in PS2 post-patch i get the slow motion feeling starting at even as high as 50fps sometimes.

    Its almost as if the fps counter is doubling the true fps....except I tried fraps and it reports the same, so im not sure whats causing this. I just hope they fix it as honestly I found the game to be more playable before the patch despite the counter showing an increase.. :(

    Got the same. Although FPS are way better than my game feeling is much worse.
    Take for example my game experience with my NC toons. While on low RPM weapons it just feels terrible. AX11 which was brutal accurate now leaves opponents with half of shields... Same goes for EM6. need about 20 bullets to drop a target.. you feel like bein in a dirt mud. fast firing weaps are lil better but still feels like rubber bullets.

    @ larger fights amp stations tech plants bios im at average of 30fps after changes.

    It doesnt matter if input lag is on or off.

    This is the new way SOE want us to play, with a lagish mouse control.

    Lagish mouse control can be caused by Vsync.

    It means that there is a noticeable delay between the machine and the monitor, the PC receives the input but your GPU/monitor shows it with a delay processing.

    I suggest you to turn off the Smoothing, Vsync ingame/GPU driver, check reduce input lag and see if the delay goes away.

    Just to back up what S7rudl said: I also noticed this after PU01, and figured it might be due to the new smoothing, so I turned it off. This seems to have completely solved the problem, although this could be psychosomatic.
    This increases peak and average FPS at the expense of the very occasional dip (which are massively less frequent after the patch).
    It may also be futzing about with the smoothing options in the .ini file if you start having problems with FPS dips.

    My configuration: No Vsync ingame/driver, no noticeable tearing
    1sec = 1000ms / 50fps = 20ms is 1frame
    CPU + Max. pre. frames + Double buffering = Total frame per ms
    20ms + 1x20ms + 2x20ms = 80ms

    Bad configuration: Low fps and high Max. pre. frames,..
    1sec = 1000ms / 20fps = 50ms is 1frame
    CPU + Max. pre. frames + Triple buffering = Total frame per ms
    50ms + 3x50ms + 3x50ms = 350ms (Terrible)

    http://www.humanbenchmark.com/tests/reactiontime/
    Mine is 257ms average : P

    If you have notice a noticeable screen tearing you will have to enable Vsync, but you need to configure it accordingly to your FPS.

    Vsync recommended: change graphic settings to increase fps to 30-25min.
    1sec = 1000ms / 25fps = 40ms is 1frame
    CPU + Max. pre. frames + Triple buffering = Total frame per ms
    40ms + 1x40ms + 3x40ms = 200ms

    Vsync and smoothing:
    Vsync on: If the fps cannot be maintained at 60fps the driver will force your fps to 30fps
    Vsync on smooth: The driver will slowly/smoothly transition from 60 to 30fps
    Vsync adaptive: Is a hit and miss, it turns itself off completely when the game is lower than 60fps and enables itself when it goes above 60fps.

    Defenetilly smooth when playing non competative games,

    thanks for the replies but this doesnt seem to be a problem with vsync or smoothing. I have never had vsync on and still dont now. Smoothing being on or off has no effect on the problem. The "reduce input lag" doesnt do anything for it either.

    As many know, the lower the framerate (below 60) in games the slower the game appears to move. basically 40fps after the patch feels as laggy as 20fps did before the patch. the frame rate feels like half of what the counter at the bottom says.
