I got a bit bummed out about the lag from yesterdays patch, so I decided to start playing around with bios a little bit. I managed to change the multiplier to 38 I think, which was the max value I had available for my cpu 3770 (non k), which gave me a base clock of 3,9Ghz, and turbo boost around 4.1Ghz. Did I do something stupid, and which is the potential drawbacks? It looked like fun, so I tried it, and so far it has run smoothly
There is no draw backs as such, especially at those clocks. As far as I can tell, the only difference between the K and non K 3770 is the ability to change the multiplier beyond stock clocks. If I was you, as you can't go very far overclocking wise is use 38 multi and try and up the base clock (default is 100). Do it in small steps - SMALL steps. So 100.02 to 100.04 and so on. You can normally go to around 103-107. So 103 x 41 (turbo) = 4.22Ghz. You could probably also lower the stock voltage for the CPU. If you can't overclock much then you might as well save as much power. But that's just me.
Thanks for the imput Wasn't planing on over clocking when I bought the computer, so got kind of disappointed with ps2's bad optimization requiring me to D: And as far as I have found, I can't find any way to increase the base clock, but I haven't looked that close, that one was a bit too scary to touch
