Outfit leaders: Let's talk about recruiting.

I'll just leave this here:

The best way to recruit in my opinion is to influence other in the battlefield. As stated already having an open platoon allows players to join squads and experience how you as a outfit leader and your SL's operate on a daily basis. The Important thing is to have either 4 outfit members in each platoon so they are not only filled with pubs, or one GOOD leader with a squad filled with pubs.

Another thing that filters out the baddies is the use of a 3rd party software. I switched to TEAMSPEAK because everyone requested it, and it is more customizable then ventrilo. Enforce your pugs to get on your 3rd party software and if they do, they can see the effort you guys put in to create more organized platoons. Posting on the forums and up voting reddit threads and trying to recruit on other sites only go so far. The real way to recruit is personal recruiting.

The WRONG way to recruit is out of other outfits. I for one did this in the beginning of my outfit leadership career because I was desperate for members. Now that we have a solid core group of guys, we pull in members left and right. Trying to merge outfits is like bashing your head against the wall. unless the outfit is 50 people or less its not going to happen. "STEALING" other members from other outfits is not only disrespectful but your pulling other people that have loyalty issues. Let them come to you, if they don't feel its a good fit in one outfit they apply to yours then its better then selling them the idea about how the grass is greener on he other side.

ORDERS CHAT : is NOT a recruiting tool. HolyCommander will continue on saying, its what he does and what he believes in. HolyCommander has been warned by SOE about the amount of times he uses orders chat for recruitment. I have the email that he sent to me. It is funny because every time he joins a thread it usually turns out to be a flame feast. When you are doing something you feel is right, and 100% of the people around say its wrong, I'm almost positive it is not the way you should be doing things. Talking about maturity? HC is 43 years old playing a game that is directed to the age groups of 13-30. None the less, every time I see post I feel its a 14 year old kid.

In conclusion, the simple ability to lead people into battle is the best way to recruit people. keep your platoon OPEN if you want to pull in more members. enforce the teamspeak/mumble/ventrilo requirement and direct them to your site. That is the best way for now to recruit.

PHX does not use orders chat to recruit. We are effective at recruiting. Its not that hard to do. There is no need to annoy everyone while doing it.

By far, the most effective means of recruiting is to behave as individuals and as an outfit in a way that gains the respect of others. The key to recruiting is you and your outfit's reputation. If you or your outfit have a good reputation, it will be easy to recruit. If you or your outfit have a bad reputation, it will be difficult to recruit.

Being respected is not always the same thing as being liked. I personally don't expect everyone to like me or my outfit. It is more important for me and my outfit to be respected than to be liked. You don't like me? Take a number, get in line, I could care less. I can tell you that myself and my outfit have earned the respect of friends and enemies alike. We plan to continue to do so.

I remember a member of my PS1 outfit who called me an *******. I immediately replied to him

to put it another way, I am not here to win a popularity contest, I am here to win battles in PS2. That said, neither will I go out of my way to annoy and antagonize others.

Poachers are the lowest form of scum in the gaming universe. No one can do more harm to your gaming organization than a poacher. Poachers are often former members, friends and officers of your outfit. Poachers can expect me and PHX to react with extreme hostility (within the rules of PS2) to anyone who tries to poach members from PHX.

PHX does not recruit from other outfits, we recruit our own members, mostly those who do not have an outfit. Occasionally, someone from an inactive outfit who runs with PHX regularly will leave their outfit and join ours. They signal their interest to us by joining our recruiting platoon voluntarily.

Pretty much. Mergers tend to be very chaotic affairs and our oufit has not had a single one work out yet. In a way I prefer having many specialized ones because each has its own style and character (but god damn I could have really used the veteran infantry from the one outfit that considered it) which in turn makes the community better.

That being said, while we do not recruit out of other outfits, a fair number of our guys are from former inactive outfits/ left their existing outfit for us without any sort of encouragement. Getting a Br 40+ type player who understands the game is important to us, as one of these guys is worth 3 new fellas, and they are likely to stick around.

It has to due with respect, good leadership and having a proper attitude, and outfits that lack that tend to eventually fall by the wayside once their leadership tires of the game because they did not effectively garner any reputation or loyalty towards the outfit, only towards them as a leader, and eventually their recruitment plateaus.

Considering how much we invest into improving our own numbers, I have to say I would be tempted to burn any poachers with fire.

I admit I am a little surprised to get some people to support this thread reasonably/ help cut out the circlejerking. I figured I would have to just call this one off.

Umm...can you show me how you came up with this nonsense? Really, point me to SOE marketing strats showing the target demographics. Or are you just throwing out what YOU think? Gamers are all of ages, and the gap has been getting wider since the early 90's.

A game that is directed to a specific age group is more obvious...such as Barbie, and Spongebob games. Or take on the classic Leisure Suit Larry series, obviously aimed at adults. A FPS is not directed at a specific age group, because its a mainstream genre.

Point is, you are trying to make it sound that a 43 year old is playing a game meant for a younger crowd. I guess you are trying to insult him? At least do it without sounding ignorant.

Not trying to point out that age 40+ don't and are not entitled to play this game, but to argue with people half your age is just a waste of time. Especially when your argument does not have any meaning to it. HC continues to do his own thing and it shows in his outfit. no one really cares for him on the NC accept the people in his outfit that don't know any better.

Well, you made that statement, right? Without anything backing it up? As an older gamer I find it funny when you state PS2 is aimed at 13-30 year olds. Where did you get your data? Just assuming?

I dont know that guy, as I only play NC rarely on Jaeger due to how high the NC pop is. Spamming /orders with recruit would bug me as well. I would rather have that over snake-whatever-his-name-is spamming /orders that dont even remotely help out....which I have seen more than recruitment messages.

Anyway, you want to flame and insult the guy, whatever, just dont try to twist facts and lump people together to do it.

Mine is from a lead which trumps yours.

All valid points, I'll send that up to the developers as well. I know a lot of this was from intended convention and may be out of our hands, but we'll see what they say; if they say anything in response. Again, I'll keep you posted if something comes up about the recruiting in orders.

The main goal is to have something in writing, no matter what it is so people will stop arguing about the petty stuff. If they say no more recruiting on it or no insulting others on it, so be it. I don't like the feature as it is. Who am I to "order" someone anyways? Who is someone else to "order" me around? It should be changed to "Strategy" or "Reinforcement" chat instead of Orders. Maybe that wording would make more sense. Maybe extend it to every 15 minutes so people wont think every 10 minutes is "spam" which I think 10 minutes is not spam. For goodness sakes, add a Recruitment channel which can be turned off so people can recruit members there and discuss their outfits. These suggestions are simple ways to satisfy most leaders.

I'll see about having something posted from a policy standpoint, but that will require a firm policy being established before it can be posted. Dredging that up with my superiors may end up resulting in a more firm policy on all counts, but we shall see.

Thank you for the update. As you know already and I have mentioned it before that Orders chat is once every 10 minutes. Even if timed, one post every 10 minutes is not spam. That's why you guys did the timer the way you did. I know I am not breaking the rules by recruiting there but many as you said don't like it. Since the game has no other way to openly recruit to a general public and it is not breaking any code of conduct, I will continue to do so. I would like a place to direct people to. People DO ABUSE IT by insulting me and my outfit. I can send them to your post so they stop, maybe. Can you please post something on the forums? This can eliminate a lot of fights if they know it isn’t abuse to recruit on orders chat. You can take this conversation transcript and post it on there if you like. Thanks

This is Lead Operative Toxotai writing in response to your petition. At the moment, we do not have a firm policy on what can and cannot be said in Oders chat, aside from spam or harassment. Looking through your chat logs, I do not see your frequency encroaching on spam, but please keep in mind that most people don't want to see recruitment offers of any kind in Orders, they want to see orders. If our stance on policing the chat channels increases or changes, a warning will be giving so you are aware that it has changed, but at the moment, I honestly don't see a need to re-evaluate our stance on its enforcement; just keep the recruitment sends to a minimum and leave a reasonable amount of time between each send off.

While I wait for a Gm to look into this message, please look at orders chat today from about 6pm eastern till 740pm. You will see that I recruit, once every 15 minutes or so, which is NOT spam, and people use it to insult me and my outfit. Ignoring it is one thing but a continuous defamation of my character is affecting my gameplay!!! This HARASSMENT is not a good thing for the game. I understand that there are a MASSSSIVE amount of immature nerdy types (trolls) online that want to manipulate others but you have the ability to stop this nonsense by sending them warnings and letting them know it is perfectly fine to use orders chat to recruit but not to insult others (until you actually add an outfit recruitment channel or better tools for recruiting). Seriously, people are not joining us because of this horrible abuse and it is certainly effecting my game play EVERY DAY!!! I am not abusing it and finally today I spoke out on it. A member on your team said it was ok. Members of your team also said they shouldn’t use it to broadcast to others negative messages against someone. Enough is enough. Stop them from harassing me! The way I look at this is you can refund all the money I paid into this game and I will leave it or you can actually enforce your rules you have posted for all to see. I’ll be ok with either one...

So once every 15 minutes is ok? Isnt Orders chat every 10 minutes? Is that spam? What is "acceptable" to you so it isnt 10+ minute "spam"? Clarify this since "Remember this was a warning, if you continue to do so, action will be taken" and "lessen the frequency of your messages so that other players don't feel that you're spamming the chat channel" is not specific. You warned me for doing something I obviously have no clue what I did wrong, since "On some days it was a quickly as 3 minutes apart" is not even possible! Maybe you guys need to escalate this so I can get some clarification. Even your staff seems a bit lost here... Get a manager to give me some answers.Thanks

Hey there,

This is Operative Ryrix. I dug a bit deeper and it looks like we did send an email with a warning. It looks like there was an error in the system that was preventing you from seeing it in you history. I fixed that for you so you should be able to see it without a problem now. I think more so than the actual recruitment, it was the frequency of the recruitment messages. On some days it was a quickly as 3 minutes apart. If you just keep it a bit less frequent then it won't be a big deal. I hope this answers your questions.

So Im wasting my time with you since you are half my age? My argument has plenty of meaning. It is all about how people are petty about text. Saying recruiting on orders chat is against the COC while it isnt. Orders chat should NEVER be used to insult players or their Outfit. Saying NO ONE cares about me on NC is a FLAT OUT LIE. Many people enjoy my company. They just dont come here and get involved in this nonsense. I have around 20-40 members online at a give time during the day. I have plenty of people to play the game with. People will come and go. That is the nature of the beast. Go do something positive in this world BB. Stop the nonsense.

lol. Holy you are FIGHTING with SOE now. They CLEARLY warned you not to use orders as a recruitment tool. Yet you still do it. You constantly cause fights with every person you talk to. You cannot have a convocation with someone without thinking you are 100% right. Half the time you are flat out wrong. Soon, and it will be soon, you will be banned and your whole outfit will diminish. You ruin threads, you ruin the game for most of the players. Most people have you ignored or muted. You simply have no friends outside of your outfit. Most of the EZC memebers that ask other outfits for an invite always say " I did't know their were other outfits out there i just played in EZC."

SOE, please warn or ban HolyDragon in game name HOLYCOMMANDER from this game. He ruins the server like a sickness on Christmas. Funkinator was VERY abusive with horrible language used. I know this is against the code of conduct. As far as the TKing goes, you are saying that I should TK him back? Interesting... Very interesting... Maybe have my Outfit hunt him and keep TKing him? Hmmm... Interesting,,, I don't want to do that and most likely will not order such a thing but coming from you guys to TK him back is well, interesting. I wasn't the only one that he was verbally and text insulting, and on orders chat! You would do this game and the community a favor by banning him. Seriously... He spammed Leaders chat, yells and so on... This is against the Code of Conduct. Please investigate to see I am truthful and ban the guy. He is trash! Throw out the garbage please..

This is Operative Smoove with PlanetSide 2 in-game support. Sorry to hear about your frustrating experience with Funkinator. In regards to any TKing out side of the Warpgates goes, we Operatives do not get involved due to the fact that our game already has a grief system in place that will render his weapons useless should he do that continuously. If he's getting in your way, then I'd suggest TKing him right back. Hopefully he'll get the hint that you wont take things sitting down and leave you alone. As far as the issue about his abuse of the chat function, except in extreme circumstances, we also do not regulate or get involved with interactions between players. This is a MMOFPS so some trash talking is to be expected, but just to make sure things don't get out of hand, I'll have our in-game team keep an eye on things and take action if it becomes necessary. I hope things calm down and Funkinator stops bugging you before that happens though. If you have any other issues or concerns don't hesitate to contact us again. Good luck and enjoy your next battle!

Although I was trying to describe people that act like your friend one day and then FLIP the HELL out the next, I can understand that this may be harmful to people that have this disorder.
