Out of render distance - shield not showing up, bannable?

Is firing through shields when they havn't rendered an exploit? I've been killed like this a lot of times, have I got a case against them if I report them?
  2. Christo92K

That is really weird, sometimes when I enter a new area or just log in, spawn shields don't render for about 5-6 seconds or something. You can practically get free kills like that.
  3. lNeBl

Sicne its impossible to know if the shield is up or down I cant see any way to hold people accountable.
  4. Leal

You don't even need to do that. You know those really boring moments in an amp station when mbts fill up the courtyard.. and jsut not leave, instead hiding behind the shield and poking out for a quick second to fire a shot in the vain hope of killing one person before hiding behind the shield again? Break those up by going out about 400 meters and using a lancer or t he AV mana turret, or even a tank of your own cause the sheild doesn't render.

its nice getting tanks that wait till near death and delivering the coup de grace, cause seriously that stuff is ******* BORING.

    Yes it is technically bannable.

SOE has stated multiple times that circumventing shields to kill people through them is a bannable exploit. Most players would have to be a dumb-*** chimpanzee at this point to have not gotten the memo.

However, I doubt people actually get banned for it given how often it happens so if you are in fact so inclined to exploit it, you could probably do so to your hearts content.

Heck, once I walked INTO an enemy spawn room right after dropping via beacon. They all rendered at once, and I totally freaked out. I think they were as surprised as I was, because I made it back out of the shield before getting shot.

that happens to me all the time. but instead im the one getting freaked out and getting shot at by 48+ people in the spawn room and then getting tell accusing me of hacking.

im sorry, i just instant actioned here

It's due to performance issues with the code that handles rendering non-static environmental objects (certain boxes, the column thingies in the biolabs, ammo towers, shields, etc.). The slower your game runs, the longer it takes to load these objects once you are within the render distance for them.

This render distance is like 290m, which is JUST slightly under the infantry render distance. There are SOME places where you can sit in the sweet spot and camp infantry but it's few and far between. The real thing you camp is MAX units since they render up to like 500m.

However, some weapon/vehicle combos are fast enough to take advantage of the time lag in rendering these environmental objects. ESF's and Coyotes are one example of them since the Coyotes can mag dump fast enough before the shields render in an AB dive.

Mind you, this time to render these objects is between 0 and 5 seconds, depending on battle size, game conditions, and your personal hardware.

I've had spawn shields render at least 10 seconds after I've dropped via a droppod once. I've managed to wander inside and freak people out until someone finally shot me.
  10. treeHamster

    For me it's 0-6 seconds.

If you are playing on a GE kitchen toaster, you probably get a solid 30 seconds with no object render.

I've used it to pass through the doorwalls in the biolab building (the one across from the teleporter room) that are a dynamic piece of the environment. Walked right in behind a platoon of MAX's, dropped a lattice of AT mines, then tossed a sticky down and walked off. Took out over 10 MAX's and a couple clueless engies.
  11. Phaze

There are the accidents - and then there are the people knowingly exploiting it. It's pretty easy to tell which is which.
  12. andy_m

I've reported several tankers for shooting through spawn room shields but SOE do not seem to care.
  13. JustARandomNobody

As far as I am concerned if it isn't intended they need to step up and fix it, not ban people.

    Also...

I would love to shove my non-rendering foot up the *** of whatever dev thought separate render distances for infantry and vehicles was a good idea.

It's because they made the engine to play on your grandfather's pocket watch to pander to the causal gamers who have hardware that the ancient Romans would laugh at.
  15. Spoprockel

In small bases and towers the shields never go down, so they know damn well what they are doing.

I've been bombarded inside spawn shields many times, often by the same high BR people.

If it happens i deploy somewhere else and report it as exploit, but i haven't heard of any ban because of it.
  16. Winfield

By all logic it atleast should be bannable.. I don't know whether it is or not but I'll be the first one man enough to admit I've done it myself a few times.
  17. TomoB

Well even if shields appear to be up sometimes players seem to be able to go through them. Happened last time when I was harasser gunner and driver drove through enemy shield in one biolab (where tanks spawn) into the "pain field" and we couldn't get out anymore.
  18. DeadAlive99

I didn't get the memo, and there is absolutely no way for my brain to keep track of this stuff, and many people are not going to understand technical things. You've got little kids playing, casual older folks, everybody. Most players aren't aren't going to come to the forums, or twitter, or the main site. They're just going to play the game.

There are too many things going on in this game, too many changes, too many bugs, numerous mechanics, to always know when you are accidentally exploiting something. When I play, I "run around and shoot stuff", and I won't always know if something is wrong.

Having said that, the other day at an amp/tech, a tank drove straight through the exterior spawn room shielded infantry door, totally inside the room, and pasted everybody inside including me. lol It was good for a laugh, but hopefully they'll fix that.

Oh, I also got killed like 4 times in a row in one of the shielded towers and I was way behind the shield. I occasionally take hits from behind the shields elsewhere too.
  19. Peebuddy

If tankers can get banned for shooting through shields because they don't render can we ban AV-mana turrets for killing tanks beyond render distance?

    this basically.
Try to whisper the person then and reason. I am sure they will stop mostly.
Can happen quickly if you use a av-turret, a deployed prowler or something with low bullet drop and strong zooms. You'll never know for sure if there are actually shields or not if you prefer to stay away from the infantry kill zone range (lockon range mostly)
