Opinion Poll: Artillery

    Okay, I'd like to make this as simple as possible.

    Do you want Planetside 2 to have any kind of ground vehicle capable of firing on targets/locations beyond the player's line of sight?

    Its adds nothing but frustration and boring gameplay.
    I wish they never included arty in world of tanks. Its just passive and frustrating. You passively sit far away and play Wack-a-mole against enemies that cannot actively retaliate and at some point a small fast guy would show up and just as passively dispatch you. OR your side loses the fight then you are even more handily deleted from the battlefield.
    this adds no depth to the game other then conditioning every player to hide behind the same few pieces of cover on every map. Didn't matter how much effort you put into the map because the risk of random skydeath rays forced you into constant cover for most stages of a fight.
    This is playing at the expense other team.
    I don't see what is gained.

    Boring for the person using it; incredibly frustrating for the person on the receiving end. Not a fan.

    If this game was a war simulator first then it would be fine, but this game is an MMO and an FPS. Fun gameplay > everything else.

    I'd be fine with short range indirect weaponry like mortars, but anything heavier than that would end up terrible. TK's fer dayz on the one hand, no fun for anybody to shoot or be shot with. It would also inevitably get spammed. If the shooter had to stay within render range, I think mortars could be a good engi deployable.

    I wouldn't mind but it would need too be very complicated to work it needs very light armor aka glass canon. Also it needs either support in line of sight either by a sub smaller vehicle or equipment provided by the vehicle or a units resources to place a radar of sorts.

    More weapons for explosions spamfest, that's what this game needs. Not.

    Imagine 5 artillery units bombing the hell out of base. Tears will flood this forum.

    Too spamable, though given that infantry would probably not render far enough to make this weapon effective and splash damage has taken large nerfs since release, probably won't matter anyway.

    If it were on a platform like a Lightning with a large speed penalty and had no capability of defending itself within 100m or so unless it fired straight up and hoped for the best...? Possible but then who'd use it?

    Would love to see artillery in this game, this game needs artillery not orbital strikes, but artillery. Make it mobile like a true SPG, but the shells needs to travel slowly to prevent abuse of big artillery guns whos able to take out tanks in 1 vs 1. And don't add certs to it nor empire specific artillery but simply a common one with different skins, it'll prevent the abuse and advantage having a fully certed SPG on your team or the enemies, And to prevent spamming SPG's make them available in only certain regions and make those regions lock the option to spawn more after a certain number has been reached. Well atleast until one of them goes up in flames.

    On point with them, make them available to in one of the nearest regions of the warpgate, so if you're pushed back to warpgate you lose the advantage of artillery, also doing that would balance it out as these mounted guns on tracks have to travel to the nearest fight and can't be spawned close to the zerg or battle, also to prevent people constantly fighting over the regions that give artillery.

    Now we just need to solve the upcoming issues, people who TK artillery with C-4 or anything else just to get one themself.

    I can see two solutions for now

    1: Make artillery invincible to Team Damage, however that would be the easist way out.

    2: Lock artillery for a certain amount of time for the TK'er but that would actually require work from the devs side. So i doubt it.

    Also then obtained, make a seperate chat for artillerists so they can coordinate, of course some poeple will never use it, but it would be nice if one or two people wanted to organize themself if they are in different platoons or Outfits.

    Truthfully though, in a combined arms game with so many vehicles and weaponry, the absence of the single largest cause of combat fatalities in real warfare is quite odd.

    It could only work if the reload time on it was astronomical so that there would be a lull between shots for people on the receiving end to have a chance.

    But, lets get real here. This is SOE. They love them some spammable explosives. SPAM SPAM SPAM. Every weapon they make is SPAM. Whatever they attempted to create would be aimed directly at spawnrooms and the game would suck.

    Anyways do we really need it? Isn't the Zephyr kinda like artillery? If you like that playstyle why not be a Lib gunner.

    Only kind of artillery I could accept if it's gonna be like Lightning Viper kind, since it kills only by direct hit and has weak splash, yet covers area with by amount of shells. And it needs bright tracers to see where it's coming from.

    Although there is still rendering kind issue. Since players can't kill things that not rendering for them, how would artillery work?

    We have mines, so our gameplay elements that are totally shit but included for 'realism' quota has been met. Ever played an FPS where they added to enjoyment?

    I don't remember the Flail going over too well with the player base back in PS1. I almost wish I could go back to the PS1 forums and dig up all those Flail complaining threads.

    Honestly, because of rendering, tanks already serve this purpose well enough. They act just fine as mobile artillery.
